God and Time

Yet another piece in the Enquirer against the Creation Museum.

It's dawned on me that of the things that gets both religious and non religious people in trouble is the concept of time.

You see, God is infinite, Alpha and Omega, beginning and end. When God stretches out time line for infinity, humans are the only ones with a want or need to define time.

So what exactly is the concept of a day when compared to infinity?

I think religious people distance non believers when they try to impress upon them that the earth is only 6,000 years old. Especially, in the face of so much scientific evidence. Remember, that a day in earth time is a complete spin of the earth's axis so when God said "let there be light", there was know way of measuring a day because there was no earth, let alone, a spin of the earth's axis. So how is it we have a day.

At the same time, atheists and scientific types keep missing the "science" of creation. I would challenge them to dictate how long a day is in the face of infinity.

Porkopolis has a really good analysis of all the sciences that needed to occur just to build the Museum. He conveniently, uses the term science when discussing things like the "science" of thermal dynamics. It is in fact scientific law, not a theory, like evolution.

Once again, Evolution is a theory. The scientific types get all high and mighty about their faith in a theory, which is absolutely no different than one's faith in God. They believe without any discernible proof and no ability to prove the theory under any circumstance.

Once again, I still stunned at how many people seem to be offended by the museum. If it's as fictitious as many of them believe would they be as offended by the world's largest ball of twine. I mean how do you prove that it's the world's largest ball of twine? Has science dictated that it's the world's largest ball of twine? If people started thinking that this was God would they be just as offended?

Be a light today

A long time ago, I decided that every time I had an interaction with someone, whether they are a bartender, my barber, my girlfriend, a buddy, that they would consider their lives better for that interaction.

It's a tough one to commit to and even harder to follow through with.

But think about it. Imagine every single person you interact with on a daily basis. Imagine what the world might look like if every person's life was positively impacted by having an interaction with you. It's mind boggling yet possible.

God has never called out to me via a burning bush to give me my mission in life. I only know that he calls me out to bring passion and energy to the party called life. What can you bring?

My favorite Bible verse is Luke 8:16 (quoting Jesus).

"No one lights a lamp and hides it in a jar or under a bed. Instead, he puts it on a stand so that those who come in can see the light....."

Are the people in your life seeing the light in you or are you hiding it from the world? Let's all get out in the world so that every one may see the light.

Ignoring the Voters

This week Hamilton County commissioners approved a 1/2 cent increase in the Hamilton County sales tax. This is less than a year after the commissioners placed the issue on the ballot where it lost by a 57 to 43 margin.

Like a lot of issues they got to the right answer for all the wrong reasons.

I voted against the issue last fall because I believe the county already has the money to fund this jail if they simply wanted to realign priorities but I was pro jail.

There were also groups opposed to the tax because they were anti jail. The NAACP was against it because too many of their members would end up as residents there.

So how did the commissioners hear this vote. Faagetaboutit.

I'm not one of these people that believes in the collective wisdom of democracy. After all, look at Ted Kennedy and Jimmy Carter. And sometimes the elected representatives need to lead people to places they don't want to go.

But to completely blow off the various objections that people had about the jail and implement what they wanted in the first place is a complete miscarriage of leadership.

What makes it even more heinous is that it come on the heals of a city of Cincinnati budget that included 2.1 million for various arts and museums in the city.

Granted, the city and county operate autonomously, but that 2.1 million would have gone a long way to add to the jail issue. Since most of the criminals are city residents, it only seems fair that they kick in for their housing.

Overall not a good week for Hamilton County and the City of Cincin....OOOPs what's that sound.... Another 10 residents just headed to Warren, 5 to Clermont, and 8 to Butler Counties.

Hillary's Society

Hillary scares me.

Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has unveiled her economic vision. Should she be given the power to implement it, we can say goodbye to the prosperity and opportunity we have enjoyed since the Reagan years.

In a speech at Manchester School of Technology in New Hampshire, Clinton said it's time to replace President Bush's "ownership society," which she called an "on your own" society, with one based on shared responsibility and prosperity.

Doesn't such a society already exist elsewhere? It's called socialism...

Sales Tax Hike

Hamilton County approved a sales tax hike for construction of a new jail.

Once again, courts and jails are the first priority of county government. Why didn't they move the debt service for said jail to the top of the list and vote on money for the HCJFS?

Somehow, the surrounding counties are able to provide for jails and all this other stuff for 1/2% less than this county does.

Sex Offender

This is Jeni Lee Dinkel, sex offender. After her plea today, she'll be required to register as a sex offender for having sex with a 15 year old boy.

Now is she really a threat to a community that she lives in? Should I be concerned that she's going to grab my 4 year old daughter, throw her in the back of a van, rape and kill her?

I don't think so.

Yet once the people in the neighborhood get their alert they won't be able to distinguish her from a real threat in the neighborhood.

Drudge found it important to put Ben Affleck's opinions on his page today, as if, his opinions are worthy of note.

The Surrender Party

Last week, I pointed out that the democrats painted themselves into a loser's corner with these votes on war funding and diatribes against Bush.

Here's a piece, by a lib no less, saying just this.

It seems true that politicians are not convinced that voters will punish Bush-style fearmongering. But that is not the Democrats' problem. The Dems' problems is precisely that they need to be convinced of that before they will act with political courage. And everyone knows this. The last few days I have been harping on the Democrats' central political weakness - that are believed to have no convictions they will fight for.

Good news for democrats, republicans have no convictions either.

Enron, I mean, Social Security pension theft II

So your company squanders your pension money and creates a ponzi scheme to cover the current benefits.

If you are an Enron executive, you get to go to jail. If you are a congressman, people say you're compassionate for the aged.

USA Today has a piece noting that the federal government has a debt load of about 59 trillion, I say, I say, I say 59 TRILLION dollars. Most of which is unfunded social security and health care benefits.

Of course, that's what it would be if the government did accounting as businesses are required to do. But this is the same government where a three percent increase can be called a budget cut.

If you've ever read the novels 1984 and Animal Farm, you understand that it's all about control of the language.

Politicians in Washington claim to be outraged over Memorial Day weekend gas prices averaging $3.20 a gallon. So why are they taking steps to drive the cost even higher?

Their favorite idea is also one of their dumbest -- increasing the ethanol mandate. The 2005 energy bill required that 4 billion gallons of this corn-derived fuel additive be mixed into the gasoline supply in 2006, rising to 7.5 billion by 2012.

Now in its second year, the mandate is an unfolding disaster. Ethanol is more expensive than gasoline, so its use has raised the cost of driving.

Getting rich off the Poor

A couple of weeks ago, I read an interesting piece in Business Week about businesses catering to the poor.

The article highlighted some of the businesses who cater to the poor; JD Byrider, Jackson Hewitt, Blue Hippo and various check cashing services.

For the most part, I thought the piece was fair. However, I can attest to my own practice how the poor subject themselves to much of the misery in their lives.

Let me give you a little snippet of a conversation I had with a guy who wanted a rapid refund in mid March.

Customer "Do you guys do Rapid Refunds?"

GG "No, that's an H&R Block deal.... we don't do those, frankly they are a rip off. We do offer e-filing... you would get your refund in about 10 business days."

Customer "Why are they a rip off? how much do they charge?"

GG "By the time you get your return completed and the refund processed it's probably going to cost you at least $350.00"

Customer "But you get the money that day?

GG "Yes you do"

Customer "Do you know where an H&R Block is around here?"

This is the type of thinking (or not thinking) with much of the poor. If this guy had just sent a 1040ez form back in January, he would have already had his refund and it would not have cost him one nickel.

So how can anyone be critical of a business that provides people with the service/product they desire?

It's hard to be poor, I watched my folks get eaten alive with service charges, excessive interest rates, etc. but if you're willing to tighten your belt and do without some things for a period of time you won't have to deal with these kinds of businesses.

Cindy Surrenders

Cindy Sheehan, media anti-war darling and communist sympathizer, surrendered yesterday to being the spokesperson for the anti-war movement.

In her piece titled "Good Riddance Attention Whore, Cindy lays out the reasons for fading off to the background.

Money quote

I have endured a lot of smear and hatred since Casey was killed and especially since I became the so-called "Face" of the American anti-war movement. Especially since I renounced any tie I have remaining with the Democratic Party, I have been further trashed on such "liberal blogs" as the Democratic Underground. Being called an "attention whore" and being told "good riddance" are some of the more milder rebukes.

It's pretty apparent to me that the surrender of Cindy to the anti-war cause only buttresses the argument as to why we need to finish the job in Iraq.

You see, serious adults on a mission don't "quit" when there is work to be done. It's why I can have some respect for people who have been consistently anti-war, but have absolutely no respect and actually, some out right hatred, for people that want to use this war for political gain (see John Kerry, Hilary Clinton, et. al). It puts our troops at serious risk when the enemy can spot political weakness and will.

Also, serious adults don't fly to Venezuela for photo ops with Hugo Chavez just to stick one in the eye of our president. What do Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro have to do with anything related to the war?

Her piece is appropriately titled... She decided to allow herself to be whored by a lot ideologues that wanted to hide behind her beliefs until it looked safe to "come out". Now that the dirt has hit the fan, you see lot's of people scurrying back in the cracks of their political walls.

Adults understand there is work to be done. They also "get" that once you step out on that limb someone may saw it off, likely by someone you think you can trust.

Her ending soliloquy

Good-bye America ...you are not the country that I love and I finally realized no matter how much I sacrifice, I can’t make you be that country unless you want it.

You know the best thing about our country? If you hate it as much as Cindy does, you're more than welcome to leave... Maybe you can move to that paradise run by Hugo Chavez. Look at the picture, every one gets a state sponsored shower.

A view on illegal immigration

I’ll assume you’re already familiar with how the debate frequently goes. Basically, both sides toss verses at one another. Those who favor amnesty cite “alien-stranger-hospitality” passages. Those who favor legal immigration cite “law” passages.

“Christian” supporters of open borders and amnesty using carefully-selected Bible verses need to be honest. Call your attempt to be generous with the property of others what it is: a form of theft. And call your socio-economic political public policy what it is: socialism.

First it was candy bars and now it's ice cream...

Police say the jingle of this ice cream truck meant pot-sickles. Police say elementary school students tipped them off to an ice cream truck driver who was apparently selling $5 and $10 bags of marijuana from the truck. Most customers were in the third, fourth, and fifth grades.

Creation Museum II

The Cincinnati Enquirer has a duel guest columns about the Creation Museum. The anti- Museum piece uses this quote to buttress their argument

For instance, it ignores the wealth of DNA sequencing data, accepted universally as the gold standard for identity and relatedness, showing that humans and fruit flies share 43 percent of their genes, that humans and chimpanzees are 98 percent identical....

In my mind, this is one of the things that has me question the whole theory of evolution. How is it that over millions and millions of years, millions of genetic mutations, the fact we have nearly identical DNA with chimps and yet somehow we are the only species of the animal kingdom that can build a car, an airplane, a building for shelter, make movies and music, etc.... Count 'em again.... there is only ONE species out of all these millions.

If chimps have 98 percent of our DNA, you'd think they'd at least be able to come up with the wheel, build a spear for protection or even have politicians and lawyers.

Has anyone ever considered that on this entire planet, every species of plant and animal has only one reason for existence, survival, and the only reason to survive is to procreate and regenerate their population. The only species that brings meaning to life, is able to reason, and is able to have compassion for others is the human species.

Once again, the scientists failed to address micro v. macro evolution, where something comes from nothing and the fact that evolution is a theory not scientific law; like the Law of Gravity.

You see with scientific law, you can repeat an experiment and predict the results. With theory you can only guess the future results and, in this case, we can't even come up with an experiment.

I'm always preaching that when someone says something vile and wrong your best course of action is to ignore it. By vociferously objecting to someone else's ridiculous discourse, you add legitimacy to their point of view and that's what I find unbelievable in this case.

If this museum was built around the supposition that Mickey Mouse was the origin of life, do you think these scientists would be writing all these types of columns? Now, I'm curious as to what they don't want me to see when I probably never would have given this thing the time of day.

Reeding, Righting and Rithmetic

Breast Cancer Awareness

I was just at the post office and during my 20 minute wait in line, I got to look at the posters with the new commemorative stamps.

For a premium, you can buy breast cancer awareness stamps and some of the proceeds go to breast cancer awareness.

I don't know about you but I'm pretty aware of breast cancer. Hell, you can't watch a sporting event without someone having one of those pink ribbons on their shirts, using a pink bat or other such pink stuff.

Why breast cancer when more men die of prostate cancer? What about heart disease which is the leading cause of death for everyone? Why is the post office, a government monopoly mind you, in the business of supporting any charity what so ever? If you're such a fan of the pink ribbon, why don't you do what people do for other charities and send a check?

This is such a sore spot because I support a charity and I would like for the post office, bureau of motor vehicles and the state of Ohio tax form to include it so they can collect for the charity.

Because this charity is in it's infancy, it truly needs awareness. What is it?

Beer for Midgets USA.

Because little people are so discriminated against, they lack a lot of the funds that would provide for a nice cold one after they finish a shift of dwarf tossing. On top of that, I'm sure they're not allowed to drink on the job.

So the next time you're in the post office or the local BMV, tell them you would like to donate to the Beer for Midgets Awareness Crusade (BMAC) and maybe we can finally get the respect for the plight of sober little people they deserve.

Grammar

In the past few days, you may have noticed that I no longer capitalize words such as Congressman, Senator, President, etc. despite it being the grammatically correct way of addressing these positions.

The reason these words are capitalized is to denote an amount of respect for the people in those positions.

But I've been thinking, I really have no respect for any politician because they have no respect for common sense, the law, and human decency so why should I, or anyone for that matter, show respect for them.

So from now on no capitalizations for pols, I'll save it for people and positions I respect like my buddy, Road Kill Cleaner Dave.

Punishment for Pols

I just heard on the radio that the state of Indiana is imposing fines of up to $5,000 on people driving recklessly in construction zones.

Hearing that reminded me of the PSA's that are going to be coming out using governor Corzine as the poster child for not wearing a seat belt.

If you weren't aware, governor Corzine was seriously hurt in an auto accident in which he wasn't wearing a seat belt. Oh and he was traveling at 91 miles an hour.

The governor was so shook up that when he left the hospital, witnesses saw him traveling in excess of 80 mph from the hospital.

I've got an idea, these clowns are so bent on making sure the public is all protected then let's increase the fines for public officials responsible for the laws they put on the books. I think we should increase all fines and punishments 100 times what is enacted for the general public.

Maybe then we could keep governor Corzine and governor Richardson under the sound barrier.

Profiled

Marvin, tell your team tonight that there is a DUI checkpoint on Route 4 tonight in Hamilton, Ohio.

Let them know that if they want to avoid being profiled, DON'T DRIVE ON ROUTE FOUR IN HAMILTON.

I know that the Cincinnati Cops will be all over the place looking for players given that it's Hamilton and all. Regardless, If your players DON'T DRIVE ON ROUTE FOUR IN HAMILTON they can probably avoid another embarrassing arrest.

So once again DON'T DRIVE ON ROUTE FOUR IN HAMILTON tonight.

Now, if we can just figure out when the man is going to be doing those dog fighting check points so we can keep Michael Vick (aka Ron Mexico) out of trouble.

Mentos Madness

Glad to see that our brand new, multi-million dollar Fountain Square is being put to good use! And it's good to see we're good at something. Even Gapper was there.

Yes, they set the world record. A total of 504 Mentos geysers launched on Fountain Square this evening, pointing Cincinnati toward the Guinness Book of World Records for something no one previously had done.

My question.... Who has time for something like this?

Lewis "Bengals are Profiled"

Apparently, Marvin Lewis believes that his players are being singled out and profiled by Cincinnati Police.

We're (Cincinnati) a small place - our guys stand out, and they know that, and you've got to do things the right way. But when you are arrested for, or you are pulled over for, not putting on your turn signal, there's something wrong there.

I agree yet disagree with his assessment.

First, not all of the Bengals were even arrested inside the City of Cincinnati. I know two of the arrests were in Florida, one was in Texas and, I think, one was in Georgia and two in Kentucky.

Secondly, I don't doubt for a minute that police profile. They are always profiling criminals doing criminal acts and then they charge them with a crime.

I wonder how many times Marvin's been profiled for a crime?

Maybe the Bengals could profile their future draft picks. Here's a place to start; don't draft the guys with criminal records.

Creation Museum

I've been fairly surprised at the number of people who have openly voiced their displeasure with the Creation Museum in town.

The Cincinnati Enquirer has published a number of letter to the editors that sound much like these

I look forward to seeing front-page articles on the tooth fairy, Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and the leprechaun at the end of the rainbow real soon.

Why are these people so put off by this? I've seen pieces on the news where some hillbilly has a church of Elvis or Star Wars or something goofy but I'm not put off or offended by such things.

I think the main reasons most atheists are so against the public display of faith is that it forces people to look in the mirror and do an honest inventory of their lives; I should know, that's how it worked for me.

The fact of the matter is, I still don't know how this museum can reconcile a world that's only 6000 years old when there's so much scientific evidence to the contrary and that's the point; these people cannot get traction to get their information out in a mass media that's antagonistic to their beliefs. So therefore, the museum is their way to get the information out.

I wish the public schools had taught me the holes in the theory of evolution; like the difference between macro and micro evolution. It's because of that type public education indoctrination that I so mistrust anything the government involves themselves in.

So if you are one of those people who have a big problem with this museum, this is how I handle the guys wearing tin foil hats telling me I'm going to hell.... I ignore them.

Big Cheeze

I'm feeling much better now... Big Cheeze is getting out of the slammer.

Jordan "Big Cheeze" Mouton, was jailed this month on allegations he was involved in shipping marijuana from California to Cincinnati.

Mouton - called "Big Cheeze" because he is 6-feet-8 and weighs 320 pounds - pulled out a promotional poster of himself as a hip-hop artist and told Municipal Judge Ted Berry that his surefire-hit CD is due out in two months.

What World is the GOP in?

Who gains the most from this immigration bill working through congress?

One of the reasons neither party wants to confront immigration seriously is both parties believe a tough bill will alienate a growing voting block. Let me clue the GOP in on something.

Remember the president who freed the slaves? Abraham Lincoln, republican, not democrat. How have blacks returned the favor? With about 9% of the vote? Guess what...? this voting block will probably do the same.

GOP HQ, your phone is ringing. It is the millions of legal and registered voters who may decide that a vote for you may not be any different than a vote for a democrat (see Mike Dewine & Bob Taft).

As I advise my clients all the time; before you go soliciting for new customers make sure you take care of the ones you already have. As a conservative, I have a hard time believing the GOP is working for me.

What World is Edwards In?

Democrat John Edwards Wednesday repudiated the notion that there is a "global war on terror," calling it an ideological doctrine advanced by the Bush administration that has strained American military resources and emboldened terrorists.

Is this guy sniffing too much of his hair spray? This the first sentence of this article about how John Edwards intents to "confront" terrorism. As you read through it, it is apparent that he intends to not confront terrorism but to manage it.

Let me give Mr Hair a history lesson. When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor we declared "war" on the Japanese and the Germans, who had nothing to do with the bombing.

Bring us forward to the year 2000, someone attacks the US Cole. What would his Hairness call this; maybe... an act of war?

What would he call terrorist bombings in Tanzania and Kenya? What about the nuisance that occurred on 9/11/01? "An ideological doctrine"?

This is why I could really never support a Democrat for any kind of office... they can't get real and address the most serious problems because they don't even have the guts to call out evil for what it really is. How can you effectively propose a solution to any problem when you don't have the guts to even identify it.

I have my problems with the Bush Administration for a variety of reasons but on this issue... they get it.

Our war on terror is well begun, but it is only begun. This campaign may not be finished on our watch -- yet it must be and it will be waged on our watch.

We can't stop short. If we stop now -- leaving terror camps intact and terror states unchecked -- our sense of security would be false and temporary. History has called America and our allies to action, and it is both our responsibility and our privilege to fight freedom's fight. (Applause.)

For those who don't have a memory beyond last year's American Idol winner, take a few minutes and read the 2002 State of the Union in it's entirety. Maybe Mr. Hairspray could learn a few things.

Irony can be ironic

Isn't it interesting that people most likely to ridicule people of faith are using a replica of Noah's Ark as a global warming prevention tool.

What's next, a pack of atheists getting together to help the poor because God tells us to.

That's OK because I'm sure the wood they're using for the ark didn't actually come from trees because that would mean reducing those things that help CO2 emissions.

It is day 40 of the Sheryl Crow Carbon footprint tour. I saw Sheryl on a hair coloring commercial last night. I'm sure they didn't use any electricity on the shoot. I was also wondering if the tan she has from either the tanning booth or the spray on variety is carbon neutral.

Denocrats back down

To the left, Harry Reid assumes the traditional democratic posture.

The Congressional Democrats dropped their demand for an Iraq troop pull out date.

The way I see this, the Democrats played themselves into a can't win situation. If Bush (or the subsequent administration) succeeds in installing a stable government in Iraq, the Democrats will be seen as defeatist. But even if things go badly, I believe it will be the Democrats bearing the brunt of a defeatist policy.

I would offer that history proved it was liberal defeatist policy in Vietnam and subsequent Democratic leadership that resulted in the rise of Jimmy Carter to the presidency.

After Ronald Reagan proposed that we were a can do, not an impotent, country, Republicans have been the dominant party ever since.

By the way, if you are one of those wimps in congress changing their votes what do you tell the family of the last man to die for a "mistake". You have all the courage of a rabbit and you've totally set yourself up for it.

Gun Control Lunacy

While I was in Florida, I read about a local debate as to banning guns in one community.

If you are one of those who believe that we should ban guns in schools, daycares, churches, bars, etc. are you a proponent of a gun ban in your home?

My guess is that you would probably say yes.

If you do say yes, then would you please post a sign on your home's points of entrance (front door, rear door, garage doors, etc.) indicating that your home is a gun free zone and that there are no guns within the house and no guns permitted in the home.

After you do that, give me a shout out and let me know what happens.

To followup on Gordon's comments. Jimmy Carter is a joke. He was a joke as a President and he's a joke as an ex-President. My question is why does anything he say get airtime? Has the guy been right about anything in his life... ever?

So Jimmy Carter calls the Bush administration "the worst in history." This from the man who wrecked the world's greatest economy and made a nuclear Iran and North Korea possible.

We didn't think we'd see the day when a president-elect of France would be more appreciative of America's role in the world than one of our own former presidents.

John Stossel: When everyone in politics jumps on a bandwagon like ethanol, I start to wonder if there's something wrong with it. And there is. Except for that fact that ethanol comes from corn, nothing you're told about it is true.

A simple question first. If ethanol's so good, why does it need government subsidies? Shouldn't producers be eager to make it, knowing that thrilled consumers will reward them with profits?

But consumers won't reward them, because without subsidies, ethanol would cost much more than gasoline. The claim that using ethanol will save energy is another myth.

Bengals National Limelight

Why doesn't Paris Hilton just go ahead and start dating a Cincinnati Bengal? Seriously. Then we can all save time and read the daily celebrity blotter on one newspaper page.

The Bengals were a joke in the 1990s for their terrible performances on the field. Cincinnati returned to competitive respectability in the aughts, but what some of their players have done off the field is much more embarrassing than the previous decade's blunders.

Red's Malaise

I'm not as big of a baseball fan as Midas is but I will say this city really sucks when the Reds are dreadful.

On one hand, I can appreciate the ownership's patience when it comes to this team. In the past, the team has been more than willing to trade what few prospects are in the organization only to see the team end up as an also ran.

At the same time, the ownership group has to get the frustration fans have for a team that's not been in real contention since 1999 and be candid with the fans as to the plan.

Frankly, I see the big problem with this team is that the big money players have the collective hearts of a rutabaga. When these guys are just mailing it in, what do you expect the lesser players to do?

I'm not a proponent of firing Narron just for the sake of firing him only to replace him with Bob Buffoon or Dave Miley or Dave Shula or Bruce Coslett or Dick LeBoBo, etc.

I'm guessing that the team did what they could to make this year's team as competitive as possible without bringing up Homer Bailey. I believe they want to wait until mid season so the team basically extends his arbitration eligibility for a year.

None the less, it's going to be a long shitty summer once again in the city of Cincinnati.

Hopefully we'll get a couple of riots going to make it somewhat interesting.

Gordon's Back

After a few days in sunny Fl, I'm back. Only to be greeted by more of the same malaise I left behind.

I tried to make my time away a media free vacation but I couldn't help myself with the local paper.

Unfortunately, coming home, pinned on one of those Delta school buses with wings, I had to look in the back of the seat only to find a Time and a Sky Magazine. Trying to figure out which had more journalistic integrity I decided to give Time a shot.

Right on the front cover is the picture of Lord Al, media proclaimed global warming czar.

In the article, he rips the coarseness of the American debate, saying that serious discussion about serious issues has devolved to 30 second sound bites

how the American marketplace of ideas has gradually devolved into a home-shopping network of 30-second ads and mall-tested phrases, a huckster's paradise that sells simulated participation to a public that has all but lost the ability to engage.

Yet within one page is his famous cliche....

he laid out the overwhelming evidence that human activity has given the earth a raging fever, then urged the people to respond—"If the crib's on fire, you don't speculate the baby's flame retardant! If the crib's on fire, you save the baby!"

Pot, Kettle, Black

To make my ride even bumpier than a bus in air I came to this one.

He has logged countless miles in the past four years, crisscrossing the planet to present his remarkably powerful slide show and the Oscar-winning documentary that's based on it, An Inconvenient Truth, to groups of every size and description. He flies commercial most of the time to use less CO₂ and buys offsets to maintain a carbon-neutral life.

When is anyone in the media calling this crap out... Once CO2 has been released you can't take it back. You can build all the solar farms and windmills around the country but the fossil fuels burned to get this guy's ass from Buffalo to LA can't be replaced. It's the total hypocrisy around this whole issue and one of the reasons I don't take it serious.

So the moral to this story is if your trapped on a plane and you need some hard news, go with the Sky Magazine and maybe the Sky Mall Catalog if you can squeeze one from one of those sky waitresses.

Hate Crime

Mary Cayze was recently charged with stealing $9.35 from the blind owner of a convenience store inside the Hamilton County Courthouse (of all places).

She's looking at one year in jail.

Question. If you are a proponent of a hate crime should Ms. Sayze be charged with some kind of hate crime? Maybe add a couple of years to the sentence.

After all, she did target and steal money from a person who really couldn't defend themselves.

If you are an opponent of hate crimes legislation, how is this crime anymore deplorable or heinous than stealing ten dollars out of a non-blind person's wallet?

I fall back on the red county/blue county comparison. "Red Counties" have lower unemployment, lower crime, better schools, and fewer people in poverty then the "Blue Counties".

A wrong turn sent between 200 to 300 runners off course in today's Rite Aid Cleveland 10K race. So instead of running 6.1 miles some of them ran close to 9 miles. And now the results of the 10K race are in chaos.

Creation Museum

Why are so many groups deciding to protest the opening of the Creation Museum in Northern Kentucky? Many of them are the same people who pride themselves in being "open minded" and "tolerant of other's beliefs". Yet, for some reason, they find it necessary to mock a museum (which was totally funded by private money) that is just trying to present their answers to many age old questions.

What's also interesting about it is that these groups think they have all the answers. Well, if they do, why are they even bothering to take the time to discuss a museum they think is a lie, a fraud and just plan silly? It's equivalent to me trying to debate with my three year old. Why bother using up all that time and energy debating a museum dedicated to an "ancient myth", as one fellow wrote. I have my opinion-- "Me thinks thou doth protest too much!"

A couple of weeks ago, suburban school buses were attacked by brick throwing thugs as the buses attempted to leave the Cincinnati Zoo for a field trip. A five year old was hurt in the attack from flying glass in the bus.

Well police arrested the thugs, a 12 & 13 year old. This is the part of the article I found amusing.

The 12-year-old, a student at Rockdale Elementary, was arrested at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday. The 13-year-old was arrested at 7:50 a.m. today. It was not immediately clear which school the 13-year-old attended.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I doubt the 13 year old was a "student" given that the crimes occurred during school hours.

On the same on line page, two students received perfect ACT scores. I doubt either did time in Rockdale Elementary.

Speaking of the Fairness Doctrine

If we bring back the Fairness Doctrine would that mean CBS, NBC, CNN, et al would have to report that there are scientists who have reversed their positions on man made global warming?

College Gun Bans

In the shadows of the Va Tech shootings, Hamline University in Minnesota sent out emails to it's undergraduates informing them they would be able to talk to counselors for those that needed it.

Troy Scheffler emailed back saying that the University could do a lot by getting rid of it's gun ban (on top of some other choice thoughts).

What does Scheffler get for his troubles? Banned from the University until he was evaluated by a psychologist.

After reading this, what comes to mind are the thought police. Say the wrong thing and you're hauled off to a Siberian gulag for a little "re-education" in the sun of arctic Russia.

Once again, free speech for all, unless you want to say something politically incorrect.

By the way, the irony in this whole fiasco. The University placed a police officer in front of the class Scheffler was to attend. You know what, the policeman had a gun to protect the students.

Freakonomics and the Tax Gap

Congress keeps yapping about the "Tax Gap", the gap between what people should pay in taxes according to the tax code and what the Treasury ultimately collects.

Want to know one thing they could do; get rid of the Earned Income Credit. If you are not familiar with the credit, it's essentially welfare for lower wage working people.

Apparently, people in poor neighborhoods have determined that the cost of getting caught claiming Earned Income Credit they do not qualify for is out weighed by the credit itself. As a result, you have a proliferation of tax cheats and an entire industry of local tax prep companies helping people commit fraud.

The IRS knows political correctness, so they don't want to touch it with a ten foot pole because it looks like they're not sensitive to the needs of the "poor".

But if you throw a few people in jail for this crap, you'll see this activity dry up in no time.

Jerry Falwell Fallout

I was never a big Jerry Falwell fan, when I was an agnostic or after my conversion to Christianity.

I always thought he was more apt to push people away from Christ rather than having them look into that relationship for themselves.

None the less, I don't think his passing deserves this treatment.

I guess one of the things Jerry could be rightly accused of was his lack of tolerance, especially towards homosexuals. But let me ask, do these sound like the words of tolerance?

Since I've gotten into this blogging thing, I've notice that liberals suffer from a tremendous amount of projection; a psychological term where one continually sees their prejudices and stereotypes in others.

Even in the few comments I've received on this blog from liberals, they interpret my beliefs as hate when they use this kind of language and scatological thoughts; what could be more hateful.

I'm just guessing but I'd bet a lot of money that many of the people above are proponents of hate crime legislation. Could anything be hateful than the language used above.

What is it about you that I hate so much about me?

Maybe a liberal should ask the question to themselves.

Planned Abortionhood Part II

Tying in to the Planned Parenthood obfuscations in SW Ohio related to the abortion performed on a 14 year old girl, is a piece by Michelle Malkin noting a clinic in California requesting that a girl lie about her age so that they don't have to report the rape to authorities.

For those not in the know, sex with a 15 year old or younger in Ohio is a felony regardless of consent. So obviously any girl 15 or younger who seeks an abortion, is a rape victim by law. The failure by any clinic to report such rape should be obstruction of justice.

Of course, what do I know, I'm still trying to figure out how a minor can get an abortion but can't run in a road race without parental consent.

A couple of years ago I debated a woman about the "woman's body" concept of abortion. In my mind of it's simply her body to do as she pleases, a woman should be allow to prostitute herself.

Her response, "but there are emotional health costs when women prostitute themselves." Is that right?

I know of seven women who have had abortions and this is my anecdotal assessment of those circumstances. Each one can tell you the time date and place of the abortion, the one's who don't regret the decision have serious problems with depression, drugs and/or booze.

So I would like to see a serious study of the aftermath of woman who have had abortions. What do you think we would find? Of course, we're never going going to see such studies because to do so will somehow be twisted in the media as men's attempt to "oppress" women.

Someday, people are going to get that it's the doctors from Planned Parenthood that chain women to a life of oppression from their guilt.

Here's a piece noting that 27 Chicago Public School children have been shot and killed in the past year.

Do the math. One school system, 27 kids killed. Why are we worrying so much about professional soldiers in Iraq doing their job when we have this kind of mayhem happening in out inner cities on a regular basis?

Here's a great piece about a study done by the Mayo Clinic linking the use of the birth control pill and breast cancer. Here's the conclusion of the Mayo Clinic study.

"The research concluded that the risk for breast cancer is increased by 44 percent for women who take the Pill before conceiving their first child"

So now I'm sure you are thinking the Susan G Koman Breast Cancer Foundation would be flooding the airwaves educating women about the risks of the pill. After all, they are constantly releasing information about the use of certain detergents, eating of certain foods, etc. where there may be a link to the consumption of those products and breast cancer.

Here's a list of risk factors noted on the Koman site. You tell me, do you see consumption of birth control pills anywhere on the site?

What do they do in response to this information? Nothing. Unless you consider a $25,000 donation to Planned Parenthood, an organization that hands out these pills like dinner mints, something.

What in the hell could Planned Parenthood do with this money that has any relation to the Koman mission?

I guess it's more important to be politically correct than actually save women from the hells of breast cancer.

Don't Buy Gas Today!

Over the weekend, I spent time with a family member who was telling me all about boycotting gas today.

Given that it was a family outing, I tried my best to keep my political views to myself; no need to be fighting on Mother's Day. Now that I'm in the confines of my office, I'm free to say this guy is an idiot. I really didn't want to give it a thought until a heard a similar idiot on the news talking about this boycott.

If you are a moron lacking in economic education (which, by definition, probably makes you a liberal democrat), here is a supply/demand curve.

Notice a couple of things. As we consume more gasoline and there are no increases in supply the price will go up. As we consume less and supply remains the same, the price will go down....

The same applies to the supply side.

The fact is, as a country, we continue to use more and more gasoline. However, for a lot of reasons, our supply remains static. As a result, the price increases. Now, if we, as a country, boycotted gasoline for say 30 days, we might see some form of price decrease but this one day thing is shear folly.

Gordon, aren't you worried your relative might read your blog and be offended? Not really, because I'm pretty sure if he could read he 1) wouldn't be a democrat and 2) he wouldn't already believe this garbage.

Obama to Increase Taxes

Barack Obama wants to rollback the Bush tax cuts for the rich (aka increase taxes). I guess he hasn't looked at this article noting that revenue collections hit a record in April.

My question to Senator Obama "I know you're a politician, so you're not that smart by definition, but can you see that tax cuts for the rich actually gives you Senators MORE money to blow on bridges, global warming research, and hall of fames?".

This is why I'm convinced that tax increases are more than "revenue generation" for governments it's about control and power. My guess is those future tax hikes will probably have some exemptions for Las Vegas casino interests (Reid constituents) and San Francisco real estate developers (Pelosi constituents).

The God Filled Air America

Don't ask me why, but I was just talking to someone about the "fairness doctrine" and the subject of Air America came up. I wasn't sure if it was even around anymore since all the Ohio affiliates dropped it.

So I did a web search and there it was. Of course, outside of Randi Rhodes and Rachel Maddow I didn't recognize one of the personalities.

But what caught my attention was this add for the movie "The God Who Wasn't There."

After the 2004 election, there was a big deal made about the "Faith Gap" and how Democrats weren't making the connection that they were also people of faith.

But really, if that were true, would you be displaying ads completely anti-faith on your liberal talk flagship? Think this guy is buying ad space on Hannity & Colmes?

This is what confuses me about liberals, atheists and global warming alarmists, many of whom are one in the same; why should we care about taking care of the earth let alone our fellow man?

I mean, if you believe death is it for this lifetime, why not be a gluttonous, hedonistic, selfish pig all about our individual wants and desires? Who cares if anyone or anything is hurt in the process? So the earth's temperature increases a couple of degrees, I'll be dead, so why should I care? If we are no different than pig or monkey, why should we exhibit the same kind of animal like survival behaviors without regards to anything or anybody?

As smart as dolphins are, do you think they are working on a plan to reduce their CO2 emissions? I don't think so.

Liberals love to use Ken Lay as the epitome of corporate greed but who cares? Old Ken is now dead so if he didn't believe in the afterlife it sounds like it all worked out for him. He lived like a pig and gorged himself and died. Pretty much calls it.

Maybe a liberal out there can explain to me why we should defer self gratification. After all, if we are simply a freak of random DNA why shouldn't we leave this planet and all it's species extinct?

Secure Borders?

If this is true every congressman, senator and president as well as INS official should be canned immediately.

Apparently, three of the terrorists involved in the planned Ft. Dix attacks were smuggled in by their parents through Mexico.

I've never been an anti-immigration protectionist, but I'm a believer in having a border because it's what makes us the US. If there is no border, we might as well be, well...... France.

I've mentioned this in the past and I'll pound on it again. I was at a ball game and a beer vendor in the stands was required to scan my driver's license to buy a beer (it provided him with a name and age info). If it's that easy, it should be easy enough to require this for employment clearing houses, airline tickets, voting, etc.

But unfortunately, nothing will happen because we have a potential huge voting block the everyone covets. When is someone going to covet the voting block that's actually allow to vote legally?

Network Blues

CBS News wants to pass off Katie Couric's poor TV ratings as a reaction of the American public view of woman in the newsroom.

I hate to bust the CBS management bubble, but here's a clue; Katie Couric developed her reputation on the Today Show from being "perky" not as a credible news anchor.

Now imagine using that characterization of the past news anchors; Tom Brokaw, perky; Dan Rather, perky; Peter Jennings, perky. It's beyond hilarious.

The Today Show caught a lot of flak when little Katie would deal out the controversial interviews because the public (mainly women) wanted a "perky" person in the morning.

Diane Sawyer, perky? Leslie Stahl, perky?. I don't think so.

I think the business people at CBS News need to take a business 101 course... First lesson, when your potential customer won't buy your crap, don't blame them for not being able to smell the rose buried in it.

Just a reminder, if you want to send a message to the oil companies about how powerful we ae as consumers, boycott purchasing gas tomorrow, May 15th. If you want the oil executives laughing uncontrollably, boycott gasoline tomorrow.

If you want to avoid any lines on Wednesday, fuel up on Tuesday.

Today is Mother's and there is probably no irony in the fact that we celebrate this day on what would normally be the Sabbath for most people.

The Fifth Commandment is Honor you Father & Mother. It's mentioned in the following books in the bible; Exodus 20:12; Deuteronomy 6:4– 9; Matthew 22:36–40; Ephesians 6:1–4.

For those who have an issue with their parents, remember that they only had their parents to role model after. No one is perfect and for this day, let's give up our issues with our parents and celebrate them for making us everything we are and everything we're not.
