The Media Mythology continues

On my way in to work this morning, I heard a media member still extolling the virtues of another cyclist caught cheating.

Apparently, this cyclist (who I won't name on this blog since it only satisfies his megalomania), confessed to Oprah about his PED use.

For the record, I never bought into his mythology. His fame and fortune came at the expense of many careers he ruined along the way including Frankie & Betsy Andreu, Greg Lemond, among hundreds of others.


The Media built this excrement of a human being for their feel good story and they should take responsibility for his megalomania.

I called him a hero, using typically defiant and outspoken language. There were millions who felt the same way. But none of these millions had the power of the printed word like I did.

I did not know at that point how serious the allegations were. I did not know about the statements taken under oath in which former teammates accused him of coercion when it came to blood doping. I did not know about the alleged techniques he masterminded to beat the testing system for the use of illegal performance enhancers. None of that came to light until last October.

It is not a sufficient excuse. Enough good journalists out there had written about the terrible side of Lance Armstrong. When the editor of Outside magazine, Alex Heard, tweeted that I had made an ass of myself, my response was arrogant and flippant.

My cover story about Lance Armstrong, my affirmation of faith, was the worst piece of opinion I have ever written. I did a disservice to myself. More important I did a disservice to readers. I did believe what I wrote at the time. I do believe in staking out strong positions. We all do as columnists today, because of the world we live in, craving to differentiate ourselves from the thousands who populate the Internet every hour.

For the record, I'm going to guess that this "journalist" voted for Barack Obama.


One of the media myths regarding this clown's 7 tour wins is the overlooked fact that most of those came after the sport gave lifetime bans to more than thirty of the sport's top cyclists.

He never would have won his first if those guys would have been allowed to compete. But the media simply ignored it for whatever feel good reason.

If the media wanted to make things right with the lives this douche bag ruined, they would simply ignore this ass for the rest of his life and never give him a platform to voice his excrement again.

It's the republicans fault

One reason, I haven't gotten all upset about what Boehner and the GOP did or didn't do on the fiscal cliff bill is that, frankly, no matter what was done the media would make it the republicans fault.

Need an example? Let's take the case of California. You may see a state drowning in the toilet whirlpool from all the liberal taxes and regulations.

But who does the media blame? Republicans for letting democrats do what they do.............

Unlike my conservative friends, I do not think the fault lies entirely with the Democrats. Instead, it has to do with the total eclipse of the state's once-lively two-party system. As Starr has noted, California's golden age of governance from the 1940s to the 1960s was largely a bipartisan affair, with power shifting between the parties. "Despite their differences," Starr writes, "Democrats and Republicans saw sufficiently eye-to-eye" to embrace policies that drove California's growth.

Progressives, for their part, often suggest this paradigm died with the 1978 passage of Proposition 13, which diminished local government and concentrated fiscal power in Sacramento. Yet even as late as early 1990s, when the state was facing a dire recession due to the end of the Cold War, liberal Democrats such as Assembly Speaker Willie Brown and state Sen. John Vasconcellos managed to work well with Republican Gov. Pete Wilson and business leaders like Peter Ueberroth to force policy changes that helped spur the state's last sustained recovery.

The more recent demise of California governance stems from demographic trends and political miscalculations that have turned our state increasingly into something akin to Mexico under the old dictatorship of the PRI (Institutional Revolutionary Party). Wilson's decision to embrace the anti-illegal-immigration measure Prop. 187 as part of his 1994 re-election strategy helped precipitate this shift. Although Prop. 187, which passed easily, helped in the short run, it crippled the Republican Party in the ensuing decades.

New details have emerged in the case of a couple arrested over the weekend after police said they found weapons and bomb-making materials inside their Greenwich Village apartment.

When Morgan Gliedman and her boyfriend Aaron Greene were arrested on Saturday, police found a container of the powerful explosive HMTD in their living room, CBS 2 reported. Three buildings in Greenwich Village were evacuated as a result.

HMTD was believed to have been used during the 2005 London bombings.

“It’s extremely potent,” said Mitch Silber the Executive Managing Director K2 Intelligence. “One of the reasons why it is so appealing for terrorists to use, because they can get all the ingredients for this at local hardware stores.”

Gliedman, 27, is the daughter of a prominent real estate agent and a top-rated New York oncologist, CBS 2 reported. She was nine months pregnant at the time of her arrest and gave birth to a baby girl soon afterward.

CBS News has learned that police seized two shotguns, a flare launcher, nine high-capacity rifle magazines, various handwritten notebooks containing formulas, literature on how to make booby traps and homemade weapons, and pages from a do-it-yourself manual called “The Terrorist Encyclopedia.”

Of course they own guns. Logically thinking, they would obviously have their concealed carry permits.

Logically thinking, they must be NRA members.

Logically thinking, they must be rabid republicans. Right?

But how many right wingers does this apply too.

The New York Post reported Greene was a member of the Occupy Wall Street movement, but the group has denied this.

Why it isn't Necessary to "Throw the Bums Out"

This fiscal cliff is nothing compared to the impending doom on the horizon.............

The greatest fiscal challenge to the U.S. government is not just its annual deficit but its total liabilities. Our federal balance sheet does not include the unfunded social insurance obligations of Medicare, Social Security, and the future retirement benefits of federal employees. Only in the small print of the financial statements do you get some idea of the enormous size of the unfunded commitments. Today the estimated unfunded total is more than $87 trillion, or 550 percent of our GDP. And the debt per household is more than 10 times the median family income.

The public doesn't know about these awesome liabilities because the totals appear only in actuarial estimates. As Chris Cox, former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and Bill Archer, former chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, recently noted in the Wall Street Journal, the real annual accrued expense of Medicare and Social Security alone is $7 trillion. The government's balance sheet does not include any of these unfunded obligations but focuses on the current year deficits and the accumulated national debt. Cox and Archer reported that the annual budget deficit is only about one fifth of the more accurate figure.

If the American public saw our financial statements in the same way that public companies report their pension liabilities, it would clearly see the magnitude of danger represented by the future borrowings that these liabilities to an aging population imply—borrowing on a scale that would not only bankrupt the programs themselves but the entire federal government. And to a worrying extent, we are locked into continued escalation by the fact that social insurance programs, as well as other mandatory programs, carry payments that are in accordance with automatic formulas written into law and are not subject to an annual spending limit. Today, less than 40 percent of our budget is actually decided by Congress and the president, down from 62 percent 40 years ago.

If we continue in these irresponsible ways, an eventual reckoning cannot be avoided. The liabilities are so huge, and multiplying so fast, that there will be one unavoidable demand as the various bills come to their due date. Show us the money!

How will the bills be honored? Let's remember that 100 percent of the payroll taxes for Social Security and Medicare are spent in the year that they are collected, leaving no leftovers for the unfunded obligations. And this doesn't take into account other risks, hardly minimal, like the fact that the Federal Housing Authority confronts a $16.3 billion net deficit after its latest audit that may force a taxpayer bailout for the first time in its 78-year history. And just four years from now, in 2016, the Disability Insurance trust fund will be fully depleted.

Gave Bates smiled through tears as she swiped her hand across her phone, flipping through pictures of her cousin playing around and striking goofy poses.

"He was a lot of fun, very good at imitating people," Bates said of Nathaniel T. Jackson, 40. "He just had so much fun all the time. And we all grew up together in the same house."

Jackson was standing outside a store in the Austin neighborhood around 9 p.m. Thursday when someone walked up and shot him in the head, police said. His death was apparently the 500th homicide in Chicago this year, marking a grim milestone. The city last reached that toll in 2008.

500 murders in a year? Does anyone in the media notice that's a Sandy Hook elementary every 2 1/2 weeks?

Life in "Progress" City - New York edition

New York City police say a man has been shoved in front of a subway train and has been killed.

Investigators are searching for the woman believed to have pushed him Thursday night in Queens.

It's the second time a man was shoved to his death on subway tracks this month. Ki-Suck Han was pushed in front of a train in Times Square on Dec. 3. A photograph of him moments before the train hit him was published on the cover of the New York Post and caused an uproar.

Democrats in Maryland, NJ, NY and Massachusetts Charged or Found Guilty

All dogs are democrats

On my drive back from Charlotte today I passed a woman who had a bumper sticker that said "Even my dog is a democrat".

Clue phone to this woman. All dogs are democrats.

Think about it. They don't work. They sponge off of people who work all day while they lay around licking their balls.

Hell, if they had opposable digits on those paws, they'd raid your refrigerator and eat everything out of it while you were slaving away at your job.

In Philadelphia and Cleveland they probably vote.

And almost all dogs have Obamaphones. 

Why would any vote for a republican?

What is it about the second amendment?

The guy who taught my concealed carry class, regularly sends out an email whenever he gets a new supply of guns into his shop.

Last Friday, literally minutes before the New Town shootings, I received one noting several different Bushmasters he just got in.

I had called my brother in law (who's a police office and gun aficionado), to see which of those he thought was the best deal.

Before my brother in law could get back to me, the dealer called to tell me he only had one left. So I bought it.

Of course, as of today, the gun is just a really expensive club since .223 ammunition is next to impossible to find and I won't pay price gougers who have hoarded the stuff.

When I brought the gun in the house and told my wife it was one of her Christmas presents, she just about had a cow.

As I told her, you're better off having a gun you don't need than needing a gun you don't have.

What's been somewhat predictable in this whole gun discussion is how many potential solutions have been presented and how, not one of them, would have prevented the massacre in Connecticut.

And then you have the Hollywood elite who throw out such quotes like Wayne Lapierre should be shot in the nuts.

Did it ever occur to any of these idiots that there's a reason no one has ever spree killed in a police station, any NRA office, a gun store or target shooting facility?

Conversely, there's a reason these nut bags head to schools and other non armed facilities?

I've offered that one of the reasons these idiots do these shootings is for the glory. There's probably no better quote to address this than this one.............

The results of the Gun Free School Zone act’s passage have been devastating. The first mass shooting in a school since before 1900 occurred in 1997. As prominent researcher John Lott has noted, mass shooters are attracted to defenseless victim zones. While zones that ban armed citizens are a tiny percentage of the nation’s area, according to Lott, only one of the “successful” (four or more victims) mass shootings in the past thirty years occurred outside of a defenseless victim zone (gun free zone).

Why do mass shooters chose defenseless victim zones? Because they want the fame that goes with the media attention that a mass killer gets, and to get the attention, they have to kill a lot of people. If they are stopped by an armed citizen, they lose their chance to make the “record books”, and there is no point in mass killing.

So before we go and assault the 2nd amendment, let's propose these additional laws


1)  Let's ban all violent video games........ It appears that the CT killer played these games endlessly.

2)  Let's ban the media from reporting the names of any spree killer of more than four people....... I've noted on this blog that the prevalence of streakers and other drunken idiots running on playing fields at sporting events ceased right after the media quit showing them.

3)  Let's make it easier to lock up and treat mentally ill people who have made violent threats and/or shown the capacity to be violent. This really awesome piece illustrates the issue for a parent who has recognized the violent tendencies of her son but is essentially neutered to do anything about it.

Of course, you'll hear the Hollywood types hide behind the 1st amendment to continue producing their violent games.

The news media types will hide behind the first amendment saying it's in the public interest to know everything about the shooter, even as they report inaccurate information to the public.

And finally, the mental health community will protect the criminally insane, sighting the 4th amendment right to privacy.

But you won't hear any of these solutions come out of the Joe Biden committee now will you?

Be careful what you wish for

Have you ever heard some dumbass defending marijuana legalization make the comment "When's the last time you heard of a driving accident with someone who's high?"

Actually it was this morning...........

the Vancouver Police Department arrested a man for Driving Under the Influence of Marijuana in connection with a deadly crash in Vancouver.

Investigators said the driver hit and killed a pedestrian around 5:50 p.m. on East Mill Plain Boulevard and Andresen Road.

Police say the victim, a male in his 50's, was believed to be walking back from Safeway and stepped out into the middle of traffic.

The driver, Scotty Rowles, was driving westbound on East Mill Plain Boulevard and could not stop his car in time, according to police.  

Detectives says Rowles cooperated with the investigation, but after interviewing him they determined there was enough evidence to arrest him on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana.

Police believe this is the first traffic fatality involving the drug, since it became legal in the state of Washington.

Police say the victim was close to two different lit and controlled intersections, but chose to step out into the middle of traffic, which would clearly put him at fault.

However, because Rowles was believed to be under the influence of marijuana, Washington State law says he is technically at fault, according to police.

While it may now be legal to smoke marijuana in the state of Washington, police say it is never legal to smoke it and then get behind the wheel.

If there's a reason, I'm not seeing it right now

This weekend, I did something I haven't done in quite some time, I worked a weekend of drunken sloth.

It started Friday with the news reports of the Connecticut shootings. But that didn't seem to hit me as hard as this local news story.................

A couple is behind bars after an 18-month-old girl was reportedly left in an overheated room in Adams County.

Police say Jesika Case and Jeremy Cox were taken into custody late Wednesday morning after their 18-month-old daughter, Jailynn Cox, was found unresponsive.
Authorities believe the baby was left in an overheated room, in a house located at 517 E. 5th Street in Manchester, Ohio.
According to investigators, the child was sleeping in a small room on the second floor with no duct work. As a result, the room was chilly and a space heater was put on a nearby nightstand to keep the baby warm.
Police say Jailynn was put to bed around 11 p.m., with the space heater about 3 to 5 feet from her crib and the door closed.
Reportedly, she wasn't checked on until 11 a.m. the next morning, and was unresponsive.

So this Einstein doesn't check on an 18 month old for an entire 12 hour period of time?

Notice also that it's a week day and neither of these two dolts apparently had any sense of urgency to get to anything resembling a job or, god forbid, an interview.

So this weekend I've been spending my time wondering, why am I busting my ass to pay for the welfare so these derelicts can breed another victim in this country?


Why don't we all just lay around and smoke pot all day?

Couple this with a tragedy in our family involving a child and I have to say that God isn't real freakin' high on my list right now as it pertains to children.
