Years ago, I was in serious conversation with my ex wife and she made the comment "I'm a powerful woman".

I turned around and told her "you know... powerful people don't have to say it, they exude it"...... Maybe one of the reasons my marriage didn't work out.

Since I've been in business (over ten years), I've encountered two individuals who introduced themselves to me as "Christians". They turned out to be some of the biggest liars and scumbags I've ever met.

And I've run into people that start a sentence with "let me honest with you...." and it's always the biggest line of doo doo your ever heard.

How many politicians state "I'm not a politician"?

Then Bill Clinton came out with his infamous "I did not have sexual relations with that woman...."

So I've adopted this saying "if you have to say it, then it's probably not true."

Now when Larry "gimme three taps" Craig comes out on a podium and emphatically states "I am not gay, never been gay and I don't even use Ben Gay.....", I think I'm pretty certain that he's gay.

Help for sub prime borrowers

President Bush outlines a plan for people who are having difficulty with sub prime mortgage deals.

I've got a plan if you are one of these people.

1) Pay your mortgage.
2) If you can't pay your mortgage, sell your house.
3) If you can't sell, work with your lender regarding foreclosure.

Gordon, you are so harsh, why are you so mean to people who are about to lose their homes?

Look, right now I have two family members trying to keep it together and actually pay their mortgages current.

One just took a bath from the sale of a home and we figure they had to be at least $25,000 underwater on their mortgage. Why should someone today get a bailout when this family didn't? This stuff has been going on as long as there have been home loans.

It's tragic that so many people are getting their butts kicked on this mortgage business. But I know way too many young people that had to have a $200,000 home right out of college and they let these scum bag mortgage lenders and real estate agents work them into the deals they wanted.

I see these people in my office every year during tax season. Every year they're surprised that $12,000 in mortgage interest doesn't translate into a $12,000 federal income tax refund.

This is tragic for each and every family going through it but getting the government involved is one way to assure that no one will learn a lesson because they know there's a safety net waiting for them.

First, Senator "Knock three times" Craig educates me about hazards of tapping my feet to my favorite Monkee's song and now I learn of a new sign called "the shocker". Apparently, a high school football team was disciplined for showing the sign in their team photo.

Maybe that's why I never got laid in college... I didn't know sign language.

I see the Breck Girl got a key endorsement from the carpenter's union.

Why shouldn't they? He single handedly employed every carpenter in North Carolina to build his 28,000 square foot house.

I've had my share of fun with senator Larry "Knock Three Times" Craig regarding his latest difficulty.

But now that the dust has settled I have to ask; Where's the crime?

Are you telling me that if I'm in a bathroom stall and tap my foot, slide it over, and then put my fingers underneath the wall, that's a crime?

Well Gordon, it's an obvious solicitation for a lewd act.

It is? I had no idea until now that was a signal for a lewd act. In fact, prior to this week, I probably would have thought it was a signal to borrow my sports page.

What if I'm in the stall next to him and I accept his "signal" as an invitation and he looks at me and says he wants a guy who looks more like Kevin Spacey instead of Kevin James, is that a crime? Where's the actual "lewd act"?

If you've read this blog for a period of time, you know how I feel about these sex stings already. Now we have the thought police out there assuming you're committing a lewd act just because you're remembering a beat to a song and you have a "wide stance".

Just like Foley, his main offenses were creepy, not illegal. And if that were the standard by which we make things illegal, then Hillary, Obama and the Breck Girl would all be in jail today because they give me the creeps big time.

Immigration hypocrisy

On Mike McConnell's show yesterday, he went into some of the things that Koch Foods attempted to do to find out whether or not their employees were illegal or not.

Apparently, the company suspected that they did have a number of illegals but didn't really have a way to effectively find out how to gather information without singling out hispanics, thereby exposing them to discrimination suits and civil rights violations.

So how do the feds respond, they blow into the place arresting 161 employees.

Does the hypocrisy end there? Nooooooooo. Dave at NixGuy then tells of ODJFS offering assistance to those impacted by the arrest.

So let me make sure I got this right. You arrest a worker because they are illegal and then offer public assistance to the illegals' families.

I was in traffic court a couple of years ago. There were probably four illegals in court for a variety of offenses; drunk driving, driving without insurance, etc. Not one of these people were detained because of their illegal status.

And yet this same government wants to come down on employers for hiring these people.... It's totally ridiculous.

Many want to bust the heads of companies who hire an illegal to which I ask this question; Assume you need a worker, one shows up with what looks to be legitimate documentation, what do you do?

You cannot do a preemptive check on the legality of the documentation, that's illegal, what do you do?

When employers receive information regarding discrepancies related to names and social security numbers they are specifically told that they are not allowed to fire the employee for the discrepancy they are just supposed correct the error. Many times the illegal will give yet more false information.

But this same illegal can walk into a BMV and get a license with the same totally bogus information.

I've got an idea, let's make government officials responsible for the deportation of illegals when they KNOW they have one. Let's hold the same officials responsible for the integrity of government documentation they KNOW is obtained illegally. Let's force the same government officials to set up a system whereby an employer can obtain the adequate documentation to determine the legal status of employees.

Once these same officials can do this, then we can start busting employers heads.

You tell me how is Boise State going to get a game with one of these "somebody" teams. You couldn't find more cupcakes, Twinkies or fruit pies on a Hostess truck (or a certain senator's favorite public restroom).

If you think I'm just banging on the Big Eleven, the SEC Big Twelve and PAC Ten are just as bad.

The fact is the NCAA doesn't run college football and never has. Before the BCS was the CFA, and they made sure the bowl trough was only going to feed the power conferences.

With the current BCS configuration and the extra regular season game it's only gotten worse. The power teams go out of their way to schedule an undefeated non conference schedule and then hope to play an undefeated conference schedule for a BCS title shot.

So this weekend, I'll be at on my couch watching hours of coverage of the Big Eleven - MAC Challenge.

My infamous prediction. By week 7, all the talking heads will be wondering which of the 6 or 7 undefeated teams deserve a BCS title shot only to watch all but one of them lose by week 11.

PS I know why they call it THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY, they never leave Ohio until about mid November.

The honorable senator

US Poverty Rates Decline


The Census Bureau reported Tuesday that 36.5 million Americans, or 12.3 percent -- were living in poverty last year. That's down from 12.6 percent in 2005.

The median household income was $48,200, a slight increase from the previous year. But the number of people without health insurance also increased, to 47 million.

The last significant decline in the poverty rate came in 2000, during the Clinton administration. In 2005, the poverty rate dipped from 12.7 percent to 12.6 percent, but Census officials said that change was statistically insignificant.

What's interesting to me is how do they come up with income numbers to determine poverty. The article states an annual income of $20,444 for a family of four to be "living in poverty". But I don't believe this consists of tax free benefits such as food stamps, Earned Income Credit, WIC, subsidized housing, school lunches, etc. all of which a family of four with this income would be eligible for.

So I believe income is a bad determination of poverty.

I believe a better indication of measuring poverty is measuring the assets people own. For instance, if you own a TV, a VCR, a cell phone and a car you are not living in poverty. And my guess would be that many of these families own some if not all of these assets.

America has the fattest poor people in the world and if you are poor & fat are you may be living in poverty, but only in poverty of the soul.

Tap three times

An Idaho senator gets busted for lewd behavior in an airport bathroom (reason #1,938 why to think all senators are scumbags).

I've heard these stories about these airport interludes and how the cops are always looking for people who place their belongings in the stall to block the view. What I never knew was the special "signals" you can use to attract your new found friend.

The report continued: "At 1216 hours, Craig tapped his right foot. I recognized this as a signal used by persons wishing to engage in lewd conduct. Craig tapped his toes several times and moves his foot closer to my foot. ... The presence of others did not seem to deter Craig as he moved his right foot so that it touched the side of my left foot which was within my stall area."

Again, I ask the question. What the hell is it with gays and public bathrooms?

Second question, if I'm going to go at it in a public bathroom stall, the ho should be good looking. But how can you tell when you're in a stall and you can't see the person?

Are part of the foot taps signaling "I'm a 5'10, 175lb. with dark hair & brown eyes, I enjoy salsa dancing, beagle puppies and sunsets?"

Third, why can't gays meet each other in bars like heteros do? If you need a signal because your gaydar's not that good maybe they could come up with bar signals. Like say...... come into the bar wearing a boa. A dumbass like senator Craig might be able to pick up on that one and you wouldn't have to run into those messy situations..... like cops picking up on your stall signals.

Fines Issue

The Ohio Department of Health has fined 32 businesses and fraternal groups for failing to comply with a statewide smoking ban, officials said today.

Among those fined $100 for a second offense -- after receiving a warning letter -- are a tire company from Milford, a Fraternal Order of Eagles from Middletown and Jay's Lakeside Inn, also in Middletown.

Texting Troubles

Now here's a real class act. Texting is getting a lot of people into trouble.

A Cincinnati man is behind bars today, accused of soliciting sex from a teenage girl via cell phone text messaging - and police say it all started with a wrong number.

According to police, Roy Martin, 33, mistakenly sent a text message to a wrong number, then tried to continue a conversation with the woman whose cell phone he'd texted. To get him to leave her alone, she told him she was 14 years old. But that seemed to encourage Martin, according to Tom Scheben, spokesman for the Boone County Sheriff's Department.

DUI Checkpoints

This past weekend's DUI checkpoints netted a whopping 8 drunk drivers off the road.

Gordon, you say that so sarcastically. At least they got those 8 drunk drivers.

Well, let's see. 15 officers at a DUI checkpoint on a Saturday night between 11:30 - 2:00 am, it seems to me that these 15 officers could have found that many drunk drivers just patrolling the area in a normal fashion. They would have even caught a Bengal or two.

In addition, they created a traffic hazard when a guy jumped the line ands headed on to the interstate with no lights on.

So I would offer that this falls under the headline "doing something for somethings sake".

Where's the daddy

In all the 9 months we've been doing this blog we've never had more traffic on a post than Midas' post of Brenda Nesselroad-Slaby, the school teacher who left her child in a car all day in 100 degree temperatures.

I've not really followed the story that closely but I haven't read anything about the daddy in this case. Where is he? Are they married? I'm just trying to get a beat on what the deal was because it doesn't smell right to me.

Usually I come up with posts during my reading of the news in the morning. This morning I couldn't really find anything worth writing about until I read this fine comment on my Dante Allen post.

First, notice that the writer is more interested in my bullying of poor little Dante than he is of the murder little Dante committed. This person did a blog search looking for people persecuting poor Dante. But where's the same compassion for the kid this thug killed at a "peace rally" for cryin' out loud.

Second, I hope this person never got a high school diploma, it just says even more about why I found the need to move out of the city. Here's a clue you anonymous piece of excrement; you are an idiot.

Third, I wouldn't be Dante's bitch, he would be mine. This punk wouldn't be anything if he wasn't hiding behind a weapon.

I want my Mike Vick fix

If you haven't caught my tongue and cheek posts about America's favorite dog trainer, Michael Vick, I think it's time to explain myself.

First, the media coverage of this is down right deplorable. With each and every 24 hour news cycle, a new twist on the case seem to arise. Except that there was actually nothing to report.

You see in the tax business, we use the terminology "taxable event". What that means is something happens that justifies a certain tax treatment. For instance, if I transfer money from my savings to my checking account, it is not a taxable event. If you pay me for accounting services, a "taxable event" just occurred.

Journalism needs the same terminology.... call it a "news event". People meeting behind closed doors discussing something is not a "news event". Speculation and hear say are not "news events". Actually being charged with a crime qualifies as a "news event". A conviction also qualifies.

In addition to the terminology, news outlets need to actually report what event just occurred. In the Vick case, when an actual "news event" actually occurred, the media totally misreported it. All day yesterday, it was reported by all the media outlets that Michael Vick agreed to a plea bargain but did not and would not admit to any gambling or killing of dogs. His actual plea agreement did no such thing.

But the media let Vick's attorney's play them because they are all dumb asses. They really don't have the ability to read a legal document and report on it so they allow the attorney's to feed them more lies and speculation about the deal. Is it any wonder the profession is dominated by liberals?

This is why the American population places the media right next to car salesmen in terms of trustworthiness.

They can't discern what is actually news and they can't, or won't, report the news that actually occurs....... accurately.

So Long Cincinnati

Since 1989, I have lived in the city of Cincinnati. I've lived in Corryville, Oakley, Pleasant Ridge, and Madisonville.

For years I rejected the suburbs; just wasn't for me, too vanilla. However, now that me and the future Mrs. Gekko will be in marital bliss soon I decided it was time to get the hell out of town.

I could have tried to talk the future Mrs. Gekko into moving into the city; perhaps a nice quiet place in Hyde Park or Mount Lookout. But why? Why should I try talk someone that lives in the 'burbs to move back to the city. The increased crime? Oh, I know, the higher taxes? No no, it's the horrible schools?

The city worked fine for me, I can take care of myself. But I'll be damned if I would ever take on the responsibility of having a loved one move into the city with all the things that can go wrong there.

So instead, I'm heading out where I don't have to worry about the safety of my wife getting into her car or stopping by an ATM machine.

I'm sure some city leader is probably going, who is he? He's just one person in a city of 350,000. His leaving is of no consequence to us.

Except that I'm just one of 650,000 people who have left the city for a life in the city's suburbs. One of those 650,000 who's taken his tax dollars, a sense of community, and his crime free life style to a place where he's actually wanted.

So Cincinnati, you can keep the cars with the booming bass, auto glass all over downtown streets and pan handlers, I'm going to a place where the major concern is how bright the flashing red light at the intersection should be.

How busy, stressed, air-headed, overworked, dim-witted or scatterbrained must a person be to forget their child and leave them in a parked car, regardless of the outdoor temperature? I left my wallet in the car by mistake, I've left groceries in the car, I've even left my keys in it once... but I can't imagine ever being so preoccupied with something else that I would leave my child. They should lock Brenda up for just being stupid, if nothing else.

A 2-year-old girl was found dead Thursday afternoon inside her mother's car parked outside Glen Este Middle School.

Thursday's temperature hit a record 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. School officials declined to comment on why the girl, Cecilia Slaby, might have been left in her mother's Mercedes.

Her mother, Brenda Nesselroad-Slaby, is the school's assistant principal.
Union Township police said the girl was strapped in a car seat in the rear of the vehicle for several hours before she was noticed.

A Mason mother worried about the safety of her daughters walking past the home of registered sex offender to their school bus stop complained Monday the school system should have acted quicker to change bus stops.

“A school bus stop is like a candy store for sex offenders,” said Morie Mortashed of the Pine Hill Estates in Mason.

So you're probably thinking. The sex offender is one of these perverts who goes and kidnaps kids off of school bus stops and rapes and kills them.

But here is the crime committed by this offender

Brian Owens, 22, was arrested and convicted in 2003 in connection with allegations that he took nude photographs of two teen-aged girls between 13 and 16 and that he had sex with one of them. A felony charge of unlawful sex with a minor and another charge of illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material were dismissed after Owens pleaded guilty to a second count of the latter charge, Warren County court records show.

Now let's break this down. Convicted in 2003, four years ago. He would have been 18 at the time of conviction, maybe younger on the day he committed the offenses.

The article doesn't say which of the girls he had sex with but does this sound like a guy who's going to troll school bus stops looking for victims?

We've now created an entire fear business in this country. To the point of insanity. I've been more than critical of school districts but how are school districts supposed to deal with each and every one of these complaints.

What's it going to take for people to get a grip.

What's a child's life worth?

Ohio recently passed Jarod's law, inspired by the death of a six year old boy who had a 290 lb table collapse on him.

It requires inspections of health, sanitary and safety conditions of all public and non public schools.

I truly feel for the family of this boy. It has to tug at the heart of any family to lose a child.

But this was the part of the article that caught my attention.

Many school districts have gotten a look at the draft rules, which they describe as extensive and potentially costly. Jim Bennett understands that districts worry about the costs.

"It's a very valid point that they raise. However, I would say that a child's health or a child's life ... you cannot put a price on the life of a child."

Actually Jim, we put a price on the life of a child each and every day.

Do your remaining children wear helmets all day? I don't see them on the children in the article. What if a brick fell off your house on to one of their heads. Do you drive on the freeway with your children in the car? Do your kids play any sports? Those are all prices we're willing to pay in the form of risk.

The fact is living is risky because death is always a possibility as soon as you get out of bed. But to pass laws in order to legislate each and every potential possibility is ridiculous. Who could have predicted that a ball hit off a kids bat would kill a kid at a little league game? Yet New York passes a law outlawing aluminum bats.

It seems to me all this stuff started with the "Baby on Board" signs. Somehow, we're all supposed Slooooooowwww way down because you have a kid in your car. As if we're going to play demolition derby on the freeway if you don't.

Adults are allowing their fears to take over their sensibilities and we continue to place all these barriers to make kids safer and then we wonder why our kids are fatter then ever. Kids are picking up on this collective neuroses.

I was at a family outing a few months ago and a kid got a nose bleed from bumping heads with another kid. I never saw so many people freaking out over a nose bleed. It's just one of the risks of being a child and sometimes we just can't legislate all the things kids get into.

It seems to me like we all need to take a collective deep breath and trust that God has all the risk associated with our children handled.

Under the leadership of Nancy Pelosi and Harry "the weasel" Reid, congressional approval ratings continued their robust decline to 18%.

Ohio Workers Comp

The state's $21 billion system for handling claims from injured workers and setting the premiums their employers pay is "pretty broken," and it may take years of work before public trust is restored, the new director of Ohio's insurance fund for injured workers said Wednesday.

The premiums employers pay are unstable and some workers face inappropriately long waiting periods after filing claims, Marsha Ryan, administrator of the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation, said in an interview with The Associated Press.

We in the real world didn't need for Marsha to tell us what we already know. Ohio worker's comp system is the worst in the nation. For injured workers as well as employers.

It's not unusual for an employer's annual premiums to double despite the lack of a claim history. I currently have a day care provider with a $6000 annual workers comp bill. It's ridiculous.

I know someone that waited almost six years to get the approval for a back surgery.

What I want to know is why this article is in the Houston Chronicle and not the Buckeyeville Dispatch. Oh, I guess new turf on the football field is more important than a collapsing workers comp system.

If both teams finish the rest of their seasons undefeated, USC's going to be in the BCS and Hawaii will be watching on TV with the rest of us schleps. So the whole thing is rigged for bigger programs already. Not to mention the four plus non conference home games the bigger programs already play against the likes of Florida International, Eastern Illinois, New Mexico State, Youngstown State. My question for Big Ten football fans is this. If Kent State goes undefeated in their Big Ten Schedule, do they get the Rose Bowl bid?

People often wonder what it is about Columbus (aka Buckeyeville) that I can't take. After all, I did live in Dayton for crying out loud and I've spent plenty of time in Cleveland, Toledo, Marietta, Canton, Akron to have a pretty good sense of what life is in those cities.

So in Buckeyeville, one of the top stories today is the installation of new turf in the stadium? Four of the top ten stories is about OSU football? At least here in the 'nati, we've got murders at peace rallies, development of large piles of dirt on the river, a Bengal being arrested, Red's losing, etc.

It just always occurred to me that there was an apparent poison in the water up there that can only have you talking about Buckeye football. No thanks.

So it appears I will be in perpetual exile from Buckeye City, until I can name my kid Tressel, Archie or Woody.

University Professors, private foundations employees, government employees, union reps, etc. are all insulated from public scrutiny of their beliefs. It's why liberal talk radio will never succeed. As soon as light exposes the mold of liberalism, it starts to dry up. Liberalism can only succeed in the darkness of group think.

As far as Karl Rove goes.... I think it's hilarious that he became a lightning rod for all liberal hate (See liberal projection syndrome). Do you think that maybe that's how he played them the whole time?

Main Stream Media Accuracy

It's a good thing that we have the main stream media to provide us with accurate news accounts.

With all their fact checkers, we're able to get an accurate picture of the news unlike those bloggers in pajamas. Well except for all those instances of false reports and out right plagarism as outlined in this American Thinker piece.

Well at least those respectable newspapers aren't reporting stories about the five football field wide NAFTA superhighway..... Unless you consider the San Francisco Chronicle respectable.

Elizabeth Edwards for President

A lot of people wonder what it is about John Edwards I so dislike. After you meet me, you're probably certain that I'm jealous of his quaffed mane of hair.

But let me list the reasons.

1) He's a tort attorney. Really needs no explanation.

2) Time after time he has continually sent his cancer stricken wife out to do his hatchet work. What kind of man does that? He doesn't have the stones to speak out against Ann Coulter? She's right, she's more of a man than Edward's is.

3) He's a first class phony. You know the type. As soon as you shake his hand you want to find somewhere to wipe it off. He speaks about two America's from a 28,000 square foot house, $400.00 haircuts, he invests in sub prime lenders etc. He leaves people waiting for hours at campaign rallies. Basically, no respect for the least of us.

4) He was a senator. See tort attorney above.

5) Like most of the candidates, he's actually never run anything in his life. I'm sure he's never even run a lemonade stand because it gets "sticky".

I don't know why he doesn't step aside and let his wife run the campaign. But then again, how do you trust her judgment.... she picked him for a husband.

A reader of the Enquirer, I'm sure a nice person, has a guest column about the need for compromise in our world today.

She's so naive. She mentions the three most polarizing issues in the American debate.

I hate to burst her bubble but I would offer that it's because of compromise that's gotten us to this place to begin with.

I believe life begins at conception, how do you "compromise" that with abortion on demand.

I do not believe in illegal immigration because of the compromising term "illegal". It's like saying you pro or con illegal bank robbing. How do you compromise that?

I do not believe government should establish a moral code of stealing money from one to give to another. How do I compromise those beliefs?

People who believe in compromise don't really believe in anything. It's why I'm so critical of republicans, they're the ones most likely to sell out every conservative principle which is why I don't believe many of them believe in conservative principles at all.

Before I die I want to see senators or reps come to blows on behalf of their beliefs. I'd rather see gridlock in government before compromise because any "compromise" on an issue means conservatives get screwed.

It's nice to see Mayor Mallory working hard to stop crime in the city of Cincinnati. With all the track meets at the (excellent rated) suburban schools, you'd think there would be all kinds of murders out there. (My theory is he's worried his shooting abilities will rank with his baseball throwing skills.) Chalk this one up to worthless, symbolic politics.

But regardless, you will almost always get some kind of jab about how the Church persecuted Galileo and Copernicus for their science of the solar system.

But many of these sames atheist liberals are the first to shut out and downright persecute anyone who has a contrary opinion on the issue of global warming.

Jeff Jacoby has a good piece about the persecution of "global warming deniers". And we're not just talking about a few loons shouting down a rally on a college campus. We're talking about people who should know better.

If you produce one more editorial against climate change, I will launch a campaign against your professional integrity. I will call you a liar and charlatan to the Harvard community of which you and I are members. I will call you out as a man who has been bought by Corporate America."

Is Mitt Romney's Mormonism fair game in the presidential campaign? What about Rudy's adherence or lack of adherence to the Catholic faith? What about Hillary's atheism?

Richard Cohen espouses a theory as to how to keep religion out of politics.

It seems to me that religion, and lack of religion, is very much a part of this and every political campaign.

For instance, here would be some of the questions I would propose to candidates regarding faith.

What in you religious training dictates that it's OK to steal money from one to give to another?

What in your religious training would allow you to permit abortion on demand?

What role does volunteerism play in your governmental framework?

But even more than the questions of the religious about about a few questions for the nonreligious (aka democrats).

Where do you develop your moral compass in the absence of God?

How do you determine right from wrong in the absence of God? Is it totally arbitrary?

I'm always irked with the media's obsession with the GOP's religious values. Granted I think they are at play but so are the democrats lack of religious values. Why do they always get a pass? It's why conservative Christians are so suspicious of the "faith talk" by democrats. They see the walk over the talk.

I read this article about the NASA temperature blunders and I was all set to post on even more falsities of the global warming debate.

Instead, I was taken by this quote within the article.

But the revisions have been seized on by conservative Americans, including firebrand radio host Rush Limbaugh, as evidence that climate change science is unsound.

For those that do not believe in media bias you can read in within this quote.

The writer should have written something to the effect of

The revisions could result in additional debate as to actual temperature changes and the accuracy of climate data used in forecasting.

But I'm sure the liberal that wrote this piece, one Daniel Dale, would tell you something like "I'm a liberal but I believe my writing is totally objective".

School's out

To my non conformist urbanite friend I met last weekend.

Here's another bit of that suburban conformity. Kids go to school and actually learn something.

As a challenge to any school board's out there. I would like to know. How much money per student would take to adequately teach our kids competitive life skills?

Is it $10,000?
Maybe $15,000?
How about $20,000?

If we dropped $40,000 per kid in the Cincinnati Public Schools, would that be enough to adequately teach the kids in those schools?

For those of you educated in CPS, you're probably not familiar with the economic term "law of diminishing returns". Basically, if we were to put another billion dollars in CPS would the results really look any different or are we just burning money with a blow torch?

It goes back to my belief that the democratic party is no more than a coalition of aggrieved victims of everything that's right about America.

If you don't have a good job, forget that you never went to school. It's because a rich guy is holding you down.

If you can't get married because you're gay, forget that neither can polygamists. It must be from homophobes.

You don't get a promotion, forget that you only work 40 hours a week because you're a single mom. It's because the single guy next to you works 60 hours/week.

Over the weekend I attended the Union Center Bash In suburban Cincinnati.

As I was in the beer line, a woman comes up behind me and this was the conversation

Woman "is this beer line single file?"

Gordon "Yes"

Woman "Why, it's so much slower?"

Gordon "Actually, it's faster. This way if one server gets held up for some reason it doesn't hold up the line for everyone behind them..."

Woman "suburbia cracks me up... they're so compliant"

Gordon "Whatever"

This chick then goes on to rant about she doesn't own a car, lives in the city, blah blah blah.

To which Gordon didn't say anything because he had his beer and, because of the faster beer line, he didn't need to listen to this ding dong anymore.

But like a lot of things, that conversation has stewed in me the past few days. And you know what? She's correct.

Suburbanites are so compliant, they do these odd things like follow the law, vote for competent politicians, stand single file in a beer lines and not shoot others at a peace bowl.

Tonight in the city Organizers are holding "Cease Fire Cincinnati". If organizers don't want anybody shot tonight... they should move it to of those compliant suburban places like West Chester or Mason.

Social Conservatives for Rudy

Jay at Pro Ecclesia rips social conservatives for supporting Rudy.

I'm actually one of the so-cons that support Rudy. I am fervently pro-life but I get one key thing. No matter how pro life you are, absolutely nothing happens until we revamp a federal court system that recognizes and adheres to the separation of powers outlined in the constitution.

I'm comfortable that Rudy will appoint those types of judges that will recognize this key tenet of the constitution. I'm also a Rudy guy because I believe that abortion, gay marriage and other social conservative agenda items have no place being in the domain of the federal government; they are and always have been state issues.

In addition, you're kidding yourself if you believe that McCain, Thompson, or Romney will be able to pass anything at the federal level that's going to make an impact on any of these issues.

Remember Ronald Reagan, he was a pro life and probably a anti gay marriage candidate. What exactly changed during his administration? The exact same thing will be true when McCain, et al when they go and appoint Sandra Day O'Connor to the bench.

I support Rudy for a few reasons 1) he's not a senator, all 100 of whom I loathe. 2) He's actually run a government unlike said senators. 3) He comes from a law and order back ground which gives him the perspective of separation of powers as it pertains to crime fighting. 4) Next to Thompson, He's one of the few that can beat Hillary.

If you've read this blog enough, you'll know that I don't support GOP candidates just because they're not democrats (see Mike Dewine, Bob Taft and George Voinovich).

I want more Alito's, Roberts, Scalia's and Thomas's on the Court. In my mind, until the day that happens Mickey Mouse, might as well be president and I don't think any of the candidates can deliver that more than Rudy.

Until a conservative shows up that's actually electable, I'm with Rudy and his six or seven wives.

Let's have a "piece" bowl

After this past weekend's "Peace Bowl", where a person was shot to death during a pee wee football game for peace, Stanley Crouch has a great piece about the lack of attention given to murders in the inner city.

Addressing a dilemma tantamount to terrorism, a few months ago Ben Stein wrote in the conservative American Spectator that, "In the five and a half years since Sept. 11, 2001, there have been roughly 40,000 killings by gangs and gang members in this United States of America, mostly in the African-American and Hispanic sections of large cities." In his book, "The Devil and Dave Chappelle," William Jelani Cobb writes: "Between 1976 and 2004, African-Americans, who are 13% of the population, constituted nearly 47% of the homicide cases in the United States."

Crouch wonders why there are no politicians addressing it and why no media outlets are challenging the pols on it.

Here's a possible reason.

If you are a politician at a city level and you campaign on jailing murderers and cleaning up your city you are white.... almost by definition.

However, if you campaign on nothing except that you are not white, you're elected. One need to look no further than New Orleans and DC. By all accounts, Ray Nagin and Marion Barry are buffoons. Their cities are the worst run institutions in the US. After the hurricane and after Barry's cocaine convictions, both were reelected convincingly.

Why?

Because they represent every thing that white suburban America would never have in their communities. It's almost a reflex.

You'd never vote for a coke head, he's our man.

You'd indict an NFL quarterback for dog fighting, I'm buying his jersey.

You'd indict a guy with $90,000 in his freezer, I'd give him a "you the man".

You hate Barry Bonds because you're a law and order white guy, then I love melon head.

You want to see OJ go to jail, hell we'll treat him as a god even though he's had nothing to do with inner city black America in decades.

After a certain point in time, white America does what they can do.... leave. You want ray Nagin to run your city, we're out and no coming back. Whitey don't need a politician to address it because Whitey don't care and when we do, you'll do just the opposite anyway, so forget about it.

It's everybody's elephant in the room and when Whitey says something about it, he's a racist. If a black pol says something, he's an uncle Tom.

We're starting to see some fissures in the wall, with guys like Bill Cosby, Jason Whitlock, Thomas Sowell, even Stanley Crouch.

But until guys like Jesse and Al, the poverty pimps, start trumpeting that these problems are not whitey's fault anymore; nothing's going to happen. Except that it will happen all over again.

The thing I've always hung my hat on is that time is a totally human creation. God never created time. He never had to. When you are limitless, the alpha and omega, the beginning and ending. Time is not really something you have to manage. Humanity is finite. As a result, humans found a need to measure limits since they themselves are limited.

So I think, especially in the old testament stories, that much of the writing is such to expose the relative ease at which God can make things happen. Do we know that Abraham was 100? Maybe he was 40 and he always joked that he didn't feel a day over 100 and people took it as truth. I don't know.

What I do know is that my indoctrination into evolution as some type of scientific law did more to ruin my faith than any old fables in the old testament.

Once again. Just like Global Warming, Evolution is theory.... not law. There are enough gaps in unexplained evolution theory that make it just about as plausible as the most ridiculous creation hypothesis.

The day someone can take the inanimate (earth, fire, water and air) and make life out of that, give me a call. But until then, I guess I'm going to hang with this whole God thing.

Karl Rove

They won't have Karl to kick around anymore. You can't work in the White House without piling up a little dirty laundry. But this guy isn't the anti-Christ like liberal Democrats like to try to paint him as.

Top White House aide Karl Rove has told the Wall Street Journal he will resign at the end of August.

As President Bush's chief strategist and advisor, Rove has been a major target for liberals, some of whom describe him as "Bush's brain." Most recently, he's been the target of various Democrat subpoenas, and many believe he was the desired target of Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald in the Valerie Plame case.

Peace Bowl

It wouldn't be a "peace bowl" without a fatal shooting...

A young man was shot to death on a street here Sunday as a youth football tournament promoting non-violence was going on several hundred feet away.

The shooting occurred just south of Knott Street and Rockdale Avenue about 2:30 p.m., less than a quarter-mile west of Reading Road.

The violence brought an immediate end to the “Peace Bowl,” an event organized by the Avondale and Evanston community councils and other neighborhood organizations.

Monday, I sent some documents to the IRS for an appeal that the Taxpayer Advocate is handling for my client.

The office the advocate works at is in downtown Cincinnati. My office is in Loveland, Ohio, about twenty miles to downtown.

I sent the documents Priority Mail so I could do delivery confirmation.

The advocate received the documents this morning.... Four days.

In addition, it took a client 10 days to receive documents via regular mail (one post office over) and another client of mine in NC is still waiting for docs sent two weeks ago.

Yeah, please let's let these guys manage my chemotherapy for me.

Islamic fanaticism near you

So you think the Islamic fanatics are for most part confined to places like Baghdad, Beirut, Kuwait City, London.

Well, here in the old USA, the Nation of Islam has been operating just like the fanatics in London in their attempt to create a Sharia Society which resulted in the assassination of Chauncey Bailey, an editor of the Oakland Post a black owned newspaper.

Funny, you can't find mainstream news coverage of this with a search warrant. In addition, Oakland cops let this area of town run wild.

The only thing that has made life in Pleasantville one notch below perfect has been the lack of one important amenity, a quality pet resort.

Clegg opened Pet Nation Lodge, a $3 million, 20,000-square-foot pet care facility last month at the former Matthew 25 Ministries building on Loveland-Madeira Road.

The business includes 70 luxury “lodges” equipped with cherry-wood beds and TVs, including eight with Web cams so owners can check on pets online from anywhere.

It has a chef to mix flank steak, salmon or shrimp into meals based on customer desire.

The lodge has a 7,000-square-foot indoor play area with skylights and banana trees.

Clegg says Pet Nation offers “the ultimate pet care” services mainly to dogs for $34 per day and $19 per day for cats. It even offers pets extras like massage therapy, book reading and a door-to-door limousine service for an extra fee.

“We provide guilt-free trips for pet owners so that when they can go on vacation or business, the last thing they have to worry about is their pets,” says Clegg.

Clegg opened the Pet Nation Lodge in Loveland after deciding not to open on Snider Road in Mason last August.

He said the Loveland site saved him $1 million because he was able to buy the church building and convert it into a pet-care facility instead of building a new one in Mason.

Strong demographics also prompted the Loveland facility. Within a 5-mile radius of his business, Clegg says there are 37,000 single-family homes with a combined yearly income of $250,000.

At least now, Midas and I have a place to get our nails done, massages, hair styling, etc. Maybe they'll even wax my eye brows. It just makes me feel all giddy like, say, John Edwards.

Is Hillary the Right's Choice?

Bruce Bartlett claims that Hillary might be the right's choice for president. No thank you Bruce. I think it's nice for a lefty to tell the right just who they should like for president, but I think I'll take someone that's say.... not a socialist.

As a guy on the right, I do want Hillary as the democratic nominee, but not for the reason stated by Bartlett.

I want to see a blood bath where we finally get to put to rest this myth of the overwhelming popularity of the Clinton's. We have this Camelot, The Sequel, myth that Hillary's wife, Bill was this huuuugely popular president.

The fact is this in 1992 Mr. Rodham, received exactly 42% of the vote, 49% in 1996. Not exactly, the kind of numbers by which legends are made. This counts the fact the Bill is definitely more likable than his husband, Mr. Rodham.

So I looking forward to a Hillary - Rudy Death match where we finally get to wash the Clinton goo off our collective consciences. Like putting a stake in the heart of all this Clinton fantasy land.

Where's that global warming

Despite it being near 100 degrees the past few days, it's actually been fairly comfortable.

For instance, wind during an Ohio August is nearly non existent but it's actually been quite breezy here the past few days. In addition, the humidity is such that I'm not sweating just putting on my underwear. I'll take this summer over any in the past ten years any day. If it is a result of global warming , give me some more.

Of course if you are a global warming nut bag, you can attribute anything to global warming. Your hamster runs on the wheel backwards - global warming. Your nose hairs growing rather long - global warming.

So it's refreshing to note that because the past two years or so global temperatures have come in flat it must be caused by.... class..... class.... global warming.

A Reuter's story on the same information reports that in 2009 global warming is coming in "with a vengeance". Is that a new Bruce Willis film?

This reports states that "natural forces" have kept the effects of global warming to a minimum. Maybe the same natural forces that would make it..... warmer?

Yeah, we'll just keep this story for future reference.

Remember Katrina, global warming was going to make hurricanes more deadly and numerous. Well we're in the hurricane season and what name are we up to now? Laverne? or Shirley?

How does anyone take these guys seriously.

Surge Working?

A democratic senator, Dick Durbin, concedes that the surge is working.

Funny I didn't see Sandra or Sheree talk about that last night.

As I called it six months ago, anti war democrats painted themselves into a corner on the war. Either success or failure would work against them. If they had simply backed Bush this whole time knowing "hey, the guy's done in 2008", they could have campaigned on a more nuanced strategy of finishing the job and still looked like they were not anti American.

Instead they created a space where Bush would get credit for success and they would be blamed for failure.

This is what happens when you read too many liberal rags like the NY Times, Washington Post and Boston Globe. You're surrounded by too much group think.

Just ask John McCain.
