Why is he in the news?

Police believe Brent Leisgang was the one who stole some catalytic converters last week in Harrison, because they said he left something important behind – his son.

Leisgang, 30, of Cedar Grove, Ind., was arrested Wednesday by Harrison police and charged with child endangering, possession of criminal tools, possession of drugs, criminal trespass, and two counts each of theft and criminal damaging.

Police responded at 12:54 a.m. March 27 to Harrison Frame and Axle, 709 Harrison Ave.

When they arrived, they saw a man run from the scene.

As they investigated farther, police say they found Leisgang’s 12-year-old son at the scene and believe Leisgang brought his son along to help him steal catalytic converters from at least two vehicles.

The converters, car parts that help clean exhaust before it is released into the air, are coveted by thieves because they are easy to steal and, because they contain precious minerals, can be sold for up to $250 to scrap dealers who then sell the converters so the precious metals can be recycled.

This November, does Brent vote for the second coming of the Christ in Obamania?

It's that time of year when BIG OIL executives are corralled to Washington to take a beat down from some dumb ass congress person.

We've been seeing and hearing about all the BIG OIL record profits. But who really profits from BIG OIL?

Unlike a senator, I have more intelligence than an amoeba, so I actually used this new thing here called google and I looked it up.

Well, Exxon made 40 billion on sales of404 billion dollars, roughly a 10% net profit on sales; not bad.

But they didn't hit the lottery, the government did. For all the sales taxes, duties and income taxes collected, the government pulled in a cool 102 Billion bucks on Exxon's sales of 404 Billion; nearly 25% of all of Exxon's sales goes to some governmental entity.

What a great gig! The Mob can't pull one off that good. So the next time you pay $80.00 for a gallon of gas, just think about how many ways Nancy & Harry the Weasel get to spend $20 of it.

The eldest brother and political strategist of indicted U.S. Rep. William Jefferson has been charged with giving payoffs to a school-board president - a bribery case apparently unrelated to the one against the congressman.

In a federal indictment handed up Wednesday, Mose Jefferson is accused of giving $140,000 to help secure about $14 million in contracts to bring a computer-based teaching system to Orleans Parish schools. He is charged with bribery, money laundering and obstruction of justice.

That Medicare is some good program

A reader recently commented on what a great deal Medicare is.

One quick google search is all he needed to do to check how well that's going.

In Washington state, Medicare beneficiaries are finding it increasingly difficult to see a primary care physician or get a referral to a specialist. In a recent poll conducted by the Washington State Medical Association, 57% of physicians surveyed were either limiting Medicare patients or dropping all of their Medicare patients.

Of 194 medical practices representing 325 physicians statewide, almost half--88 practices--said they weren't raking new Medicare patients; 23 practices said they were dropping all Medicare patients, and 83 practices were making no changes. These statistics appeared in the association's report "Washington's Ailing Health Care System: Continued Decline, Guarded Prognosis."

"Increasingly, physicians are being forced to choose between keeping their medical practices financially viable and treating all of the Medicare patients that need their services," the report said.

I hope you don't mind, but I took a cue from you and presented the same "progressive" challenge on my site. I actually had a response. He named Medicare, public libraries and our state supported colleges and universities as examples of successful "progressive" run entities. I think I took him apart fairly well. Mind? Absolutely not. I'm humble enough to admit that every thing on this blog is just information others have supplied me with; I've just got a different take on it.

I really want a conversation in this country that actually analyzes the successes of "progressive" programs. Whoever wants to take the ball and move with it I'm all for it.

When will people in traditional media actually start to confront the failures of all things "progressive". The "War on Poverty", Social Security, Medicare, our crumbling inner cities, our failing schools.

The conventional wisdom is to do more of the same old & tired strategies. As Marvin Lewis would say "I see better than I hear".

When I see a every shit hole and arm pit in this country, it is inevitably run by democrats. When I see nicer areas, they're run by republicans. But yet no one, I mean no one, Not conservatives or liberals have the balls to step up and say "Wow, what makes this community successful? We need to do what they're doing".

It's always been my criticism of college basketball. The college game is tremendously more successful than the NBA, yet the people who run the sport want it to look more like the NBA (shot clock, three point shot, etc). Why? In my mind, the NBA should try and emulate what makes the college game more watchable; not the other way around.

Well, countries, states, cities, school districts, etc, should do the same thing.

Whatever or whoever wants to spread that word and use my info to do, I support you 100%.

And they're worried about Iraq

We've lost 4,000 soldiers in Iraq over a five year period. Each and every one of those deaths tragic. But what about the loss of life in this country? You know, those places where "progressives" govern?

As he left a South Side high school that afternoon, he was fatally shot, in broad daylight and in plain view of other students. His death marked a grim end to a week when police and school officials had stepped up their efforts to combat a spike in killings of public school students.

The day before, an eighth-grader at a North Side school was shot and killed.

In all, 20 Chicago public school students have been fatally shot so far this school year -- seven in March alone -- compared with 24 the year before, said spokesman Mike Vaughn. Including those who died in non-gun violence, 22 students have been killed this year, and 30 last school year. School officials could not provide precise figures, but said that killings had increased markedly over past years.

Now class, let's go out on a limb and guess what party runs the Chicago City schools?

If you guess democrats, you get to move to the front of the class; just duck to avoid gun fire.

Let's face it you can't find a republican in the Chicago City schools with a search warrant, a pack of blood hounds and Dog the Bounty Hunter.

Where is the "progressive" outrage over this genocide?

We lose eight thousand black men a year in this country, the KKK, in it's hay day, never came close to that number; and what's happened in Iraq doesn't even warrant a back page story compared to this carnage.

Detroit suffers from every possible malady except a plague of locusts, and that’s only because they find urban living uncongenial. The city has a revitalized downtown, but all around it, the city rots. Forbes magazine declared Detroit “America’s Most Miserable City,” on the basis of its unemployment and crime rates, among other things. The unemployment rate of 8.2 percent is the highest of any major urban area in the nation, and its homicide rate is higher than New York’s in the bad old days of the early 1990s.

The city has lost 1 million residents since 1950. It was hit by the decline of the auto industry and white flight, fueled partly by racism. These trends would have rocked the city no matter what. Detroit compounded them with disastrous governance, personified by Mayor Coleman Young, who held office for 20 years beginning in 1974.

His record raises the question why, if it wanted to engage in a nefarious plot to hurt blacks, the federal government would invent the AIDS virus when it could simply emplace mayors like Coleman Young instead. “Imagine a Rev. Jeremiah Wright with real power,” says urban expert Fred Siegel. Coleman taunted suburbanites, accusing them of “pillaging the city,” while his scandal-plagued administration managed the city into the ground.

He neglected policing, maintaining that “crime is a problem, but not the problem. The police are the major threat ... to the minority community.” The 1968 riots never really ended in Detroit, dragging on in a long crime wave. With government services terrible to nonexistent and both crime and tax rates high, there was no reason for anyone to stay. “Several Detroit mayors have been the best economic development officers Oakland County ever had,” comments Michael LaFaive of the Michigan-based Mackinac Center for Public Policy, referring to the county to Detroit’s north.

Where are the protests?

The Department of Justice reports that approximately 8,000 blacks were murdered in the United States in 2005. In one year, that's exactly double the total number of American military deaths during the entire five years of the war in Iraq; in one year, that's 10 times the average number of American military deaths per year since the start of the war.

A recent study by the Bureau of Justice Statistics at the Department of Justice shows that blacks committed murders in 2005 at a rate seven times higher than whites.

The vast majority of those 8,000 black murders in 2005 were intraracial -- black victims being killed by other blacks. Similarly, Justice Department statistics covering the years 1976 through 2005 show that 94 percent of black murder victims were killed by blacks, and 86 percent of white murder victims were killed by whites.

I know what you're thinking, given the propensity for the "progressives" to protest 4,000 dead soldiers in Iraq over a 5 year period, these people have to be going crazy with this statistic.

Well you would be wrong.

Obamania survey results

Politico has a great piece on a survey(s) from the Obamania camp.

Obamania tried to claim the answers were from an errant staffer, yet he had hand written notes on another confirming his positions on a number of issues.

During his first run for elected office, Barack Obama played a greater role than his aides now acknowledge in crafting liberal stands on gun control, the death penalty and abortion– positions that appear at odds with the more moderate image he’s projected during his presidential campaign.

The evidence comes from an amended version of an Illinois voter group’s detailed questionnaire, filed under his name during his 1996 bid for a state Senate seat.

Late last year, in response to a Politico story about Obama’s answers to the original questionnaire, his aides said he “never saw or approved” the questionnaire.

They asserted the responses were filled out by a campaign aide who “unintentionally mischaracterize(d) his position.”

But a Politico examination determined that Obama was actually interviewed about the issues on the questionnaire by the liberal Chicago non-profit group that issued it. And it found that Obama – the day after sitting for the interview – filed an amended version of the questionnaire, which appears to contain Obama’s own handwritten notes adding to one answer.

Sgt. Matt Maupin is dead, the parents of the missing Clermont County soldier said today.

Maupin's remain were found in Iraq, nearly four years after he was captured by insurgents, his parents said. An Army general came to Clermont County today to notify them, they said.

"Matt is coming home. He's completed his mission," his father, Keith Maupin, said.

Charitable Conservatives

I read this in the Enquirer this morning

George Will's column of March 27 ("Not just red-blue: We're split between religious givers, secular non-givers") cites statistics to show that conservatives are more charitable than liberals. I wonder, though, how those statistics would change if contributions to churches were excluded.

Religious conservatives do indeed give a lot of money to their own churches - money that goes to maintain their buildings and pay their staff. Little of that money goes to feed the hungry, clothe the poor or shelter the homeless - it goes to provide services to the donors themselves. The difference between "blue" and "red" is that most liberals give (and vote) to benefit others, while most conservatives give (and vote) to benefit themselves.

But just to give Shirlie and all the atheistic liberals out there a taste of what churches do with their money, let me share an email (press release) I received from my church, Crossroads Community Church, a mega church here in Cincinnati.

CINCINNATI - March 26, 2008 -- The Ohio Supreme Court released a decision today clearing the way for the development of a new social service center in Cincinnati's West End. By declining to hear an appeal of a 2007 Ohio First District Court of Appeals ruling that upheld CityLink's original Zoning Certificate of Compliance, the Supreme Court removed final barriers that delayed the Bank Street development.

CityLink is a new kind of resource where care is integrated into one location to serve the city's poor, with a wide range of services to improve their lives.

"We're pleased with the decision and excited about moving forward with a new strategy for combating poverty in Cincinnati," said Tim Senff, board chairman for CityLink.

Though Cincinnati now nearly tops the list of poorest cities in America, supporters say CityLink can help break cycles that keep so many trapped in generational poverty. CityLink was organized by local churches and Christian social service providers and is modeled after a growing nationwide trend of integrated service centers. Such integrated centers can be found in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Miami and San Antonio, for example.

Senff puts the scope of Cincinnati's poverty problem on par with some of the most significant issues in the city's history. According to a U.S. Census Bureau survey released last August, 28% of Cincinnatians live below the poverty line, making it the third poorest city in the nation and the poorest city in Ohio. Even those not living in poverty are affected by these statistics. Negative perceptions of the city impact tourism and economic development dollars for the entire region.

Yet CityLink leaders believe their facility and its services can positively impact not only those in poverty, but also CityLink neighbors and the entire city.

"Our research has shown that property values have increased for real estate near co-located integrated service centers, and that crime has decreased when vacant buildings are replaced by new development,." Senff said. CityLink Center will be constructed on the site of a long-vacant former slaughterhouse facility in Cincinnati's West End.

Once complete, the center at 800 Bank Street will incorporate the services of the founding faith-based agencies plus additional social service organizations. CityLink will provide holistic services centered in four primary categories: health and wellness; basic life skills; employment and education; and therapeutic fitness. It will also provide a multi-month transitional housing program for people who have committed to making a change in their lives. While faith-based, CityLink is open to anyone regardless of their religious beliefs.

"The fight against poverty in Cincinnati is about to widen," said Jim Strayhorn, pastor of Bright Star Baptist Church in the West End. "I am thankful CityLink is making its multi-million dollar investment in our neighborhood, and very proud that healing for thousands of Cincinnatians will begin here with the support of my church and many other churches in our neighborhood."

Now how many atheists groups are out there are trying to do something for the poor in this magnitude. I'm going to guess that it's the same number as the SEC teams in the final eight.... a whopping zero.

I haven't been down to the City Gospel Mission since the beginning of the year but I intend to start serving the last Friday of the month starting in May. If any of you liberals actually want to put it on the line, let me know and we'll go down some Friday night.

My guess is that you really just want to thrust your projection around and not really solve anything.

I find it out right laughable when liberals finally come to the conclusion about The Billary that conservatives have known since 1991; They are scumbags.

Over the past few months, the emotional trajectory of the Democratic presidential primary has dropped precipitously, from inspiring to enervating, turning into a chronicle of petty sniping and amplified nastiness that will harm the party, the nation and the eventual nominee. Neither side is innocent of driving the discourse downward -- and everyone observing the process knows that both sides have crossed lines of decency and decorum, whether by accident or design.

Having watched many nasty political campaigns, however, including some far worse than this one, I tend to discount the constant hysteria over "dirty tactics" that is now background noise in almost every election. But Hillary Clinton's campaign crossed a symbolic boundary this week when its operatives sent around clips from the notoriously Clinton-hating extreme-right press to denigrate Barack Obama and his advisors. It was slightly eerie to watch those items arrive in the mailbox along with photos of Sen. Clinton at an editorial meeting of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review -- where she was seated next to that newspaper's owner, a certain Richard Mellon Scaife.

Joe buddy, I'm still waiting on that column where you tell us conservative "you were right". C'mon, sound it out. I know you can say it.

Well it was nice for the Big Ten to show and confirm their title as the most overrated sports conference in the country with those stunning performances last night.

That now gives the Bug Ten exactly one..... one.... one..... actually no teams in the final eight.

Not to feel bad, the SEC doesn't have any this year either.

One of the things that I like so much about the tournament is that it's really the only venue where teams from lesser known leagues get to play the big guys on an even playing field.

I just wonder how many SEC or Big Ten teams would be in the final eight if they had to start as a 10th seed. Actually we already know that now; -0-.

A boy in his mid-teens learned Wednesday afternoon that it is not a good idea to try to rob a former U.S. Marine at knifepoint, even if the former Marine is 84 years old, police said today.

Santa Rosa police Sgt. Steve Bair said that's what happened around 2 p.m. in the 1600 block of Fourth Street. The elderly man was walking with a grocery bag in each arm when the boy approached him with a large knife, Bair said.

The boy said, "Old man, give me your wallet or I'll cut you," Bair said. The man told the boy he was a former Marine who fought in three wars and had been threatened with knives and bayonets, Bair said.

The man then put his bags on the ground and told the boy that if he stepped closer he would be sorry. When the boy stepped closer, the man kicked him in the groin, knocking him to the sidewalk, Bair said. The ex-Marine picked up his grocery bags and walked home, leaving the boy doubled over, Bair said.

The man reported the attempted robbery to police 45 minutes later.

How charitable are "progressives"

George Will with a great post that lays out the statistics to what we already know from life lessons.

Liberals talk a big game but when it really comes to compassion, but they never back back it up with money.

Although liberal families' incomes average 6 percent higher than those of conservative families, conservative-headed households give, on average, 30 percent more to charity than the average liberal-headed household ($1,600 per year vs. $1,227).

Conservatives also donate more time and give more blood.

Residents of the states that voted for John Kerry in 2004 gave smaller percentages of their incomes to charity than did residents of states that voted for George Bush.

Bush carried 24 of the 25 states where charitable giving was above average.

In the 10 reddest states, in which Bush got more than 60 percent majorities, the average percentage of personal income donated to charity was 3.5. Residents of the bluest states, which gave Bush less than 40 percent, donated just 1.9 percent.

People who reject the idea that "government has a responsibility to reduce income inequality" give an average of four times more than people who accept that proposition.

So I guess we shouldn't be surprised when we see Obamania's tax returns show charitable contributions for the amount money he was able to find in his couch cushions the past year.

I'm presently working out my schedule this summer and one of the things I really want to take on is a trip to New Orleans or South Africa to do some work to help those communities.

While the boys from Plunderbund want to rip on religious types, I would like to throw this to those guys. When is the last time a pack of atheists ever did a damn thing for anyone?

I've have yet to see the Atheists for a better New Orleans group out there. Where are all these atheists that have done a Habitat for Humanity home?

The fact is you will never find one, because these guys never actually want to look at a problem. I would say "progressives" just want to cut a check and let someone else handle it but, as the facts above prove, they don't even want to do that.

Thank God the LA Times has a "fact checking" team. Otherwise they might have put out an crazily false article stating that Puffy Combs was responsible for the death of Tupac Shakur.

Obamania generosity

For some time, I've been challenging the guys over at Plunderbund and other liberal blogs to give to their local school district or whatever cause they trumpet but some how they never seem willing to actually cut a check.

Why? They are democrats; They expect everyone else to do the heavy lifting.

Look at Obamania's income tax records for the past six years and you'll see why. It's nice to see Obama could scrape up $1000 bucks on an income of $259,000 in 2002. Hey Obama, I gave more than that as a college student; couldn't find some old shirts to give to good will?

1) How many of these 400 murders in Philadelphia were committed by NRA members?

2) How is it that Philadelphia had all these murders? It's a "progressive" city, not some rural hickville. Didn't anyone tell these murderers that democrats are a people of peace, love & empathy for their suffering brother?

3) If guns are the problem, how is it that all those hillbillies in western PA don't have a murder rate equal to that of Philly?

Once again, tell me how a city run by democrats is a more attractive alternative to a republican run suburb?

Spending on Medicare, the U.S. health-care program for the elderly, will reach a legal limit by 2014, requiring the next president to propose changes.

The report issued today is the second consecutive year that Medicare's trustees have pulled the so-called trigger, a law mandating that the president introduce legislation the following year to protect the program's financing.

What? Whoever drafted this report is a quack. Everyone knows Medicare is in great shape. In fact, it's in such great shape we're going to expand it to the entire country. Our honorable senators would never put together a program that resembles a Ponzi scheme.

One in ten Ohioans receives food stamps; obviously a signal of tough times.

It is also obvious that if we want to bring back the state economy, we need an enormous state tax increase. That will be just the stimulus this area needs to bring jobs back to Ohio. Along with the tax increase, we also need some serious business regulations; like they have over there in France (or Michigan).

For instance, if Ohio shortens the required work week to 32 hours, that means employers will have to hire more employees to do the work that was done with the previous workforce.

Let's not forget things like mandatory health coverage, vacation pay, another increase in the minimum wage, mandatory union membership, etc.; those things are sure to bring about an ample supply of jobs to the area.

If we can just create an environment in this state where employers are forced to pay more to their employees, we'll solve this whole dilemma.

Criminal charges were filed today against Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his former Chief of Staff Christine Beatty in connection with the "text message scandal" that has enveloped the Mayor's office.

There are 12 criminal counts in all, including obstruction of justice, conspiracy, misconduct in office and perjury.

"It is perjury if there is lying, and perjury is a crime," said Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy in announcing the charges, "Even children understand that lying is wrong."

This prosecutor needs to whip out her law books. I'm pretty sure we established somewhere around 1998 that lying under oath wasn't a felony if it was about "getting you some".

I mean c'mon, surely we wouldn't have a spouse of a public official actually receiving votes for president if she supported her husband when he committed perjury for a BJ. Right?

I got my "Boss Button"

Last night. Mrs. Gekko and I went down to US bank arena for the Springsteen show.

I went whole hog on the tickets (on the floor) because, as big of a Springsteen fan I am, I've never actually seen his show. I still cringe from the 1984 tour where I had tickets but couldn't see the show as a result of The incident(s).

We were a little disappointed that the Boss didn't play some classics like Rosalita, Thunder Road, Jungleland, but he still played some classics, Born to Run, Glory days, Candy's Room, She's the One, Prove it all Night, Badlands.

Some other thoughts.

1) Bruce buddy, the average ticket was over a hundred bucks, do yourself a favor and spring for a $1.49 comb.

2) The political stuff was OK, but FISA? Bruce you are from NJ; if you're going to rail on government intrusion I think RICO is your law.

3) How is it that this county spent 1 billion dollars on stadiums and the only thing we have to host a big concert like Springsteen or and NCAA tournament game is a dump named US Bank Arena? What a shit hole. The last time I was in that arena, I swore I'd never go back. This time I mean it.

Why would anyone associate their name with that dump?

4) That girl the Boss pulled up on stage during Dancing in the Dark was a great dancer; she put Courtney Cox to shame.

5) To the Aronoff Center, you need to re book that Queen tribute band. Mrs. Gekko and I want to see it.

6) A big time hangover is no way to spend Easter Sunday.

Since the Wright controversy broke, I've been saying there is an underlying narrative that Obama is a socialist at best, a marxist at worst.

How can I come to that conclusion when he's never actually stated any overall government vision except hope and change?

Let's look at the dots

1) The Che Guevara flags in the Houston campaign office. Obamamania supporters will contend that these were volunteers but what volunteer would think that was appropriate under any circumstance unless they felt the man they supported would think it's OK

2) The photos of Obama without his hand over heart during a National Anthem. When the photos first broke, I never really gave it much attention but now I'm wondering.

3) His lame reasoning for not wearing a US flag pin on his lapel; calling it a faux patriotism. Somehow, he had no problem displaying that same faux patriotism with the 400 hundred flags behind him when he did his "race speech" this week. Again, not a big deal until some of these other events have taken place.

4) MiCHElle Obama's statement that for only the first time she was actually "proud of America". What kind of person would actually say that? Especially one who was able to achieve her level of success.

5) His vocal endorsements from Hugo Chavez, Venezuelan President. Daniel Ortega, Nicaraguan President and Raul Castro, Cuban dictator.

6) The Wright controversy. The more that continues to poor out on this church, the more of an Anti American, Marxist vision you see. Here's a great article spelling out the teachings of this church (HT Bizzyblog).

Many democrats still believe that Kerry's response was too slow and too weak to the charges. But how could he really refute the charges when there was all this video of him calling out US troops as war criminals? Kerry had all these dots of behavior (anyone ever watch Dick Cavett in the democratic party?) laying all over the place and the democrats never actually connected them. SBVT did it for them.

The same is going to be true of Obama. The media and liberal blogs never vetted this guy. They were so preoccupied with cleaning up the pee in their pants from the presence of someone so charismatic and articulate, it never occurred to any of them they might want to take a better look at this guy. Now he's going to be "swift boated" because they never did their job.

This democratic primary season provides the perfect metaphor for how democrats actually govern. They use feelings in their decision making process instead of actual thought. They get all excited about a new government program. So excited, they never actually connect the dots so they can foresee the unintended consequences of their actions. Then BAM! they sit back and say, "wow, we never saw that coming".

The best part of that, you don't have to watch the game your local station is tuned to.

Another reason? You can hit the "boss" button and the screen flips you out of the game and throws this this graph on your monitor; Click on the graph and read the info. It's hilarious.

It feels good to put one over on your boss doesn't it? But as I asked my assistant, what happens when you are the boss? Where's my boss button? How about when I hit the boss button I get a refund of some payroll taxes, or a democrat thanks me for hiring a productive employee, or Obamamania doesn't refer to me as a typical white person.

A "typical" black guy for change

I thought this was a typical satire piece from the Onion until I read it and now I'm not so sure it didn't come from a typical newspaper like the NY Times.

When it's all said and done , I think this typical black guy is no more than another typical politician.

This is the kind of liberal blather that has resulted in the racial issues in the first place. It goes back to my theory of meetings; nothing has ever been accomplished by "talking". Just ask how the issues in Darfur have improved since the UN started having meetings on the subject.

Nothing has ever been improved simply by talking about it. Has a bully ever been stopped because Jr. tried "talking" to him? Just ask Ralphie.

People who think with their epidermis or their genitalia or their clan are the problem to begin with. One does not banish this specter by invoking it. Critics of the U.N.'s treatment of the press say these are just a few recent examples of U.N. hostility toward, and intimidation of, journalists who ask questions that U.N. officials don't want to answer.

Thus, nothing could be more dangerous to Mr. Obama's political aspirations than the revelation that he, the son of a white woman, sat Sunday after Sunday -- for 20 years -- in an Afrocentric, black nationalist church in which his own mother, not to mention other whites, could never feel comfortable. His pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, is a challenger who goes far past Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson in his anti-American outrage ("God damn America").

How does one "transcend" race in this church? The fact is that Barack Obama has fellow-traveled with a hate-filled, anti-American black nationalism all his adult life, failing to stand and challenge an ideology that would have no place for his own mother. And what portent of presidential judgment is it to have exposed his two daughters for their entire lives to what is, at the very least, a subtext of anti-white vitriol?

All Sen. Obama will say is that "I don't think my church is actually particularly controversial." And in that he may be correct. There are many preachers who would be happy to tell their congregations "God damn America." But Barack Obama is not supposed to be the candidate of the America-damners: He's not the Rev. Al Sharpton or the Rev. Jesse Jackson or the rest of the racial grievance-mongers. Obama is meant to be the man who transcends the divisions of race, the candidate who doesn't damn America but "heals" it – if you believe, as many Democrats do, that America needs healing.

Yet since his early twenties he's sat week after week, listening to the ravings of just another cookie-cutter race-huckster.

What is Barack Obama for? It's not his "policies," such as they are. Rather, Sen. Obama embodies an idea: He's a symbol of redemption and renewal, and a lot of other airy-fairy abstractions that don't boil down to much except making upscale white liberals feel good about themselves and get even more of a frisson out of white liberal guilt than they usually do. I assume that's what Geraldine Ferraro was getting at when she said Obama wouldn't be where he was today (i.e., leading the race for the Democratic nomination) if he was white. For her infelicity, the first woman on a presidential ticket got bounced from the Clinton campaign and denounced by MSNBC's Keith Olbermann for her "insidious racism" indistinguishable from "the vocabulary of David Duke."

Oh, for cryin' out loud. Enjoyable as it is to watch previously expert tossers of identity-politics hand grenades blow their own fingers off, if Geraldine Ferraro's an "insidious racist", who isn't?

The blogosphere has never been known for its polite, gentle discourse, and while fiercely partisan, being a Democrat does not make one immune from attacks from the lefty blogs (see Lieberman, Joseph I.). But now, the major internal divisions within the Democratic Party seem to be splitting liberal bloggers. So what happens when the unity enforcement mechanism becomes disjointed?

Apparently, some democratic super delegates are concerned that they're going to have to do their job at the convention.

Lacking a clear route to the selection of a Democratic presidential nominee, the party’s uncommitted super delegates say they are growing increasingly concerned about the risks of a prolonged fight between Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama, and perplexed about how to resolve the conflict.


I guess these people thought they would just go to the convention, pass around Eliot Spitzer's black book and have a good ole time. Now they're going to have to show "leadership" qualities and do some work.
