The Daily Caller obtained the previously unpublished records for all of Barack Obama’s clients in the 1995 lawsuit “Buycks-Roberson v. Citibank Fed. Sav. Bank.” Obama was named as the lead attorney for two of the three named plaintiffs in the case.

TheDC verified the real estate history of all clients using public databases provided by the Cook County Recorder of Deeds, the Cook County Assessor’s Office, the Illinois bankruptcy court, the federal court system and Zillow, a real estate firm.

These documents are “proof of claim” records for more than 100 of the class-action plaintiffs based in or near Chicago. The paperwork shows their assertion that Citibank had denied them mortgages, an outcome they believed was related to their race. The case was settled out of court with Citibank agreeing to change its standards for lending in urban areas and to applicants who would not otherwise qualify.

The case is emblematic of the subprime mortgage crisis, caused in large part by lenders extending credit to borrowers who, like many of the “Buycks” plaintiffs, were not creditworthy. As a result, countless homes were foreclosed and property values have plummeted in many metropolitan areas of the United States.

At least 46 of Obama’s 186 clients have declared bankruptcy since 1996, often multiple times.

Life in "Progress" City - Detroit edition

A U-Haul truck loaded with equipment for a Monday event featuring Vice President Joe Biden was stolen in Detroit Sunday, a spokesman for the U.S. Secret Service said. 

"A U-Haul that we were utilizing was stolen at the Westin Hotel overnight," Ed Donovan told CNN. 

Donovan would not specify what equipment was in the U-Haul at the time it was stolen, and added that the theft shouldn't affect the vice president's plans on Monday. 

Biden is scheduled to speak at a Labor Day rally in downtown Detroit Monday and march in a parade organized by the Michigan AFL-CIO. Last year President Barack Obama spoke at the Motor City's Labor Day celebration. 

Hopefully, Biden wasn't in the truck.

As an increasing amount of U.S. corn is being used to meet rising ethanol demand, the United States—the world’s dominant producer and exporter of corn—is exporting less.

Now ask yourself. As we use more corn for fuel instead of food, what happens to food prices? Keep in mind that corn is used in cattle feed, dog food, breakfast cereal, etc, etc.........

When food prices go up who takes the brunt of the pain?

1) A senior citizen on a fixed income?
2) Mitt Romney
3) An opthomoligist
4) A tax accountant in Loveland OH

She's writing this late in the game, but a lib explains how Obama will wear the "you didn't build that comment" for the entire campaign.............

Many moons ago, I spent a couple of years in a fiction-writing program at a local university. I never finished the novel I aspired to write, but I did learn some valuable lessons. The most important: “It doesn’t matter what you meant. What matters is what you conveyed.” In the context of class, that meant when we were sharing our work and listening to feedback, we couldn’t butt in and say that we’d meant something else. We needed to take ourselves out of our own head and try to understand what our readers had heard.

In the case of Obama’s Roanoke speech, conservatives everywhere heard, ”You don’t get credit for your hard work.” I agree with the Washington Post for giving the Romney campaign  four Pinocchios for repeating the truncated quote ad nauseum. I wish Romney’s team would use the full version. Because even in its full glory, it would inspire largely the same reaction.  The sentiment resonates with small-business owners—and it’s small-business owners who have been most vocal in their response to Obama’s comments, from the co-owner of an Iowa deli who good-naturedly catered an Obama campaign stop in a T-shirt saying, “Government didn’t build my business” to the hardware store owner who was a bit less gracious. 

Conservatives suspect that President Obama sees government as the solution to everything. Only someone who thinks government is the answer would describe a stimulus program that cost at least $185,000 per job as successful. I can’t think of a starker difference between the liberal and conservative worldviews than the Life of Julia slide show.  Liberals look at that video and see a woman aided by a social safety net. Conservatives look at it and are creeped out by the fact that liberals think the very-capable-seeming Julia can’t do anything without government help.

That same sentiment comes through in the “You Didn’t Build That” speech. Obama’s words contain an undertone that business owners are selfish, that they are ungrateful toward those teachers who helped them along the way. And that is where Obama’s misunderstanding of small business, real or perceived, shines through.

Quite apart from whatever taxes they pay, small-business owners are part of the very fabric of their communities. Someone has to run the pharmacy. Someone has to run the gas stations. Local businesses don’t send their profits back to Bentonville, Ark.; Minneapolis, Minn.; or Cupertino, Calif., but rather put them back into the community. The restaurant owner gets his produce and meat from local stores, the mechanic hires a local painter to spruce up his shop. They are the ones who not only give money to the athletic booster club and the PTA, but show up to help out at fundraisers.  And if that teacher who helped them with their math homework stops by, the owner gives her a free oil change or an extra slice of pie for dessert.

Life in "Progress" State - Illinois edition

Standard & Poor's Ratings Services on Wednesday downgraded Illinois' credit rating by one notch to A from A-plus, citing the state's large budget imbalance and an $83 billion unfunded pension liability.

The action affecting the state's general obligation bonds comes less than two weeks after a special Illinois legislative session on pension reform ended without a solution to rein in costs for the state's five pension funds.

"The downgrade reflects the state's weak pension funding levels and lack of action on reform measures intended to improve funding levels and diminish cost pressures associated with annual contributions," said S&P analyst Robin Prunty in a statement.

Investors in the $3.7 trillion U.S. municipal bond market have been demanding higher yields for Illinois debt as the state's fiscal problems fester. Many states are struggling with budgetary constraints and pension liabilities, but the fiscal problems in Illinois predate the 2007-2009 recession and have continued to worsen.

It also keeps Illinois as the second lowest-rated U.S. state after California, which is rated A-minus by S&P.

Chicago Teachers Union officials filed a 10-day notice of intent to strike Wednesday, thrusting teachers closer to a walkout that could begin as early as the fifth day of the new school year.

 

Wednesday’s filing comes one day before an emergency meeting of the union’s House of Delegates, when the setting of a strike date will likely be discussed.

Both steps are required before the 25,000 members of the Chicago Teachers’ Union can wage the first CTU walkout since the tumultuous 19-day strike of 1987.

At a news conference announcing the filing of the 10-day notice, CTU President Karen Lewis said it was “the only way to get the Board’s attention.’’

From the city where there hasn't been a republican in city government............. maybe.............. ever.............

Camden, N.J., consistently ranked among the 10 most dangerous cities in the U.S., is losing its police department in an attempt to shave millions of dollars from its budget.

The city is not becoming a completely lawless land. It will be under the jurisdiction of a new, non-union division of the Camden County Police.

 

Camden Fraternal Order of Police President John Williamson told FOXNews.com that the move is “definitely a form of union-busting.”

Fewer than half of the 460 officers of the Camden Police Department will transfer to the new county division. Laid-off officers will be training their county “Metro Division” replacements, according to Williamson.

Hey, you know you've got to get your murder on before school starts............

Nineteen people were shot across the South and West sides from Thursday evening through early Friday morning -- 13 of them wounded over a 30-minute period, authorities say.


The overnight shootings peaked between 9:15 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. That's when eight people, many of them teens, were shot at 79th Street and Essex Avenue about 9:30 p.m.

Then two men were wounded in the Ida B. Wells / Darrow Homes complex at about 9:25 p.m., police said. The men, 27 and 33, were shot in the 600 block of East 37th Street and taken to the University of Chicago Hospitals, police said. The younger man was shot in the head and the other in the right arm, Gaines said.

Around the same time, two other men were wounded in the arms in a drive-by shooting in the 2900 block of West 39th Place in the Brighton Park neighborhood.

  Maybe the city should consider setting up M.A.S.H. units around town.

Flight with Honor

On April 29, 2004, the World War II memorial was completed in Washington DC.

In an attempt to get as many WWII vets to see the Memorial, the Honor Flight Network was established to transport these vets, free of expense, to see the Memorial as well as other memorials in their honor. Since it's getting harder and harder to find these vets, the program was expended to start bringing Korean War vets to the nation's capital.

The quote that captures the whole Honor Flight Day is this one from Will Rogers.......

We can't all be heroes. Some of us have to stand on the curb and clap as they go by.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of being a guardian on a flight from Cincinnati to DC.


A "Guardian" is a person assigned to a vet. My job was to make sure that the vet was taken care of; making sure they had taken their medications, taken to the bathrooms, making sure they were hydrated, load wheel chairs, etc.

It was a long day; I got up at 4:15 am and my head didn't hit the pillow until midnight..... but I would not trade that experience for anything.

My vet was Al. Al is now 82 and a Korean War vet. Al was originally from Cleveland so that was what his VFW buddies called him.

As Al and I went to each of the memorials, I would converse with he and the other vets. The one quality I picked up from all the guys was humility.

To talk to these guys, you would think that it was no big deal........ they simply did what they were asked to do.

It's really a stark contrast to a current pop culture that has people flaunting lack of talent and/or contribution all over reality TV shows and Youtube. Where a guy does a five minute dance for catching an eight yard out. Where there's an entire show devoted to identifying baby daddy's and the more outrageous you act, the more air time you get.

Tonight, The Gekko's will be attending a Linkin Park concert. What do you think culture shock is going to be there?

Despite having no horses, the water and sewerage department for the city of Detroit employs a horseshoer. 

Yet even with a department so bloated that it has a horseshoer and no horses, the local union president said it is "not possible" to eliminate positions. 

Union rules have turned the department into a government jobs program, some critics say. 

The horseshoer’s job description is "to shoe horses and to do general blacksmith work … and to perform related work as required." The description was last updated in 1967. 

The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) has a large debt, rising water prices and inefficient services — using almost twice the number of employees per gallon as other cities like Chicago.
