I'm Australian, so I might get some things wrong, but here goes:
Washington crossed the Delaware to attack a bunch of Hessian mercenaries at Trenton(?)
Independence Day celebrates the Declaration of Independence - not the winning of independence as Jay is suggesting - the war wasn't won until some years after.
Betsy Ross sewed the first flag
Didn't Paul Revere also shout "To arms!"? Or is that later mythology? IIRC, Revere's ride was before 1776.
