Steve Driehaus

Steve Driehaus campaigned that he was no Pelosi lockstep liberal.

But I''m not sure what else you would call voting on every single bill Lollapelosi & co. has offered. It was part of my post yesterday that he already knew he was toast so he had nothing to lose on his vote.

Nice to see Mary Kilroy and and Zach Space do the same.

Start packing your crap now.

Our democrat representative here for Asheville, NC (Heath Shuler) voted against the stimulus and the healthbill. I guess a democrat with a brain is a rarity though.

"Democrats voted for the bill and a Republican voted for the bill. That equals bipartisan," Pelosi said later.

She actually said this--1 Republican vote means it's a bipartisan bill: http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/11/08/health.care/index.html

After 4 months of horse trading, earmark promises, back room deals and broken promises, this thing passes by two whole votes out of 435.

Pelosi can claim a lot of things but she can't claim that Americans overwhelmingly want this. If the people wanted this bill the congress would have passed it by an overwhelming margin. Reminds me of when Clinton passed his 1993 tax increase by one vote in the house.

The polititicans supposedly think national health care is such a great idea. Then it should be obvious why and the politicians should be able to sell this to the people. If the people are sold then the congressional vote would be a formality. But the people never would buy into this. That's why the president had to go to congress behind closed doors yesterday and sell it to other politicians. It has all the ring to it of: "The american people don't know what's good for them, and we have to force what we want onto them."

They got the AARP and the Catholic Church, the AMA, the insurance companies (for a while at least), and big business. Everyone but the grass roots american people. Ironic that if something like this is signed into law, in ten years, care for the elderly will suffer, there will be more abortions, doctor's compensation will drop, health insurance companies will be out of business, and the "health tax" on business will be double or triple what they pay now. So I say these organizations get what they deserve. unfortunaly the people will also pay the price. We will be begging for someone like Sarah Palin to fix everything, but it will be too late.

These gigantic "omnibus" bills are an example of exactly what is wrong with the process. And that is why the political class loves them.

It just occurred to me. A while back, Gordon, you had your list of "The Hills They Will Die On". Number one was Abortion. I happen to agree with you on that one. I also think that the "Public Option" is another hill they will die on.

I think we should watch the libs try to hold these two "hills" as this health care deal unfolds in the Senate and then in conference committee.

I don't think a bill that has both a public option and also pays for abortion can get through the Senate and back through congress.

There are many dems that will die on the abortion hill before the public option one, and many that would die on the public option hill before abortion. But there are not 218 house dems and 60 senate dems willing to switch which hill they will die on to get something through.

Wouldn't it be sweet if the democrats own militancy killed the whole bill?
