A US mother has been convicted of murdering her four-year-old daughter and accused of concocting symptoms of ADHD and bipolar disorder in the girl.Carolyn Riley, 35, and her husband Michael were accused of convincing a psychiatrist to diagnose their daughter Rebecca with mental illness in order to claim disability benefits.
Prosecutors said Rebecca was overmedicated "for months" in order to keep her quiet.
She was found dead in her parent's bedroom, with a state medical examiner telling the court she had died of an overdose of ADHD blood pressure medication Clonidine, antiseizure medication Depakote, a cough suppressant and and antihistamine.
Her mother was immediately sentenced to life in prison. Her father will face a seperate trial.
The court heard Rebecca's uncle pleaded with her mother to take her to a doctor just days before she died, but Riley instead gave her a lethal dose of Clonidine.
