Life in "Progress" City - Philadelphia edition

From the city of Brotherly Love...........

The city has started temporarily closing fire stations in order to balance its budget.

The rolling "brownouts" began with the closing of three fire companies as of 8:05 a.m. Monday.

Union members hosted a news conference as Engine 57 shut its doors for the day in West Philadelphia. Union officials said the closures are creating unsafe conditions in affected neighborhoods.

The city says these rotating brownouts will not have an impact on public safety and firefighters from those companies will be redeployed to other companies or will undergo training.

So closing stations won't have an impact on public safety? Then why wasn't this policy in place from the start?

Shutting down basic municipal services?

Now that's "Progressive"!

This is bullcrap. What we are seeing here is the opening stages of this country's "pension bomb".

Public pensions are off limits for politicians. I'm including the mother of all ponzi schemes in the, Social Security.

But public workers' pensions are included. These pensions are promises that have been made for decades by politicians. Now new generations have to honor these unrealistic promises.

But instead of dealing with the fundamental financial problems with the pension bomb, the fuckin' politicians (R's and D's) cut essential government services, and throw a guilt trip on the taxpayers that somehow citizens wanting to keep 50% of their pay is selfish.

Probably 65% of government expenditures now goes to servicing SS and pensions and debt incurred funding them.

And yet this is untouchable. We are going to continue down this road until government is doing nothing but paying pensions.

What we need are more leaders like governor Chris Christie of New Jersey. But he is one in a thousand when it comes to politicians. Most will pass the buck until the system collapses.
