A bad day for baseball

First, Barry Bonds is indicted for perjury and obstruction for his testimony on his steroid use.

Second, the Yankees cave in on their threat to not negotiate with A-Rod if he declined his contract option. Well, he did and they did.

Finally, Joe Nuxhall dies this morning at the age of 79. There may have never been a bigger ambassador for the game of baseball than Joe Nuxhall. This occurring the day after Butler County made a push to get him a Hall of Fame nomination.

It's a sad day indeed.

My heart goes out to the Reds fans.

As a Cubs fan, I was spoiled by having 2 Hall of Famers (Jack Brickhouse followed by Harry Caray) call games on both WGN TV and radio. Although both had offers to do other gig's during the season, they declined "out of respect for their audience".

Games have not been the same since.

Today, you don't know who is calling the game until you turn it on. I hear some actually take a "vacation" during the season.

Rest in peace, Joe.
