I was listening to Scott Sloan (WLW) last night when he was talking about a bill floating through the statehouse banning events with prize money such as bowling, dart, or shooting tournaments. This on the heals of the strip club restrictions, which will effectively close all the strip clubs in Ohio.
He's got a brief posting on his blog.
So these are the things we Ohioans are no longer allowed to do
- Go to strip clubs
- Smoke
- Gamble
When will we be renaming Ohio the "People's Republic of the Midwest".
I can see these ads next summer. For a good time come to Utah.

I was ahead of you on this one...
1. Ohio voters adopt statewide no smoking laws...thousands on the State's edges go to surrounding states to dine and shop.
2. Legislature adopts strip bar laws...Strickland fails to veto...referendum fails to get on ballot...thousands more to head for Windsor, Ontario (and elsewhere) for their adult entertainment.
3. Ohio adopts restrictions on net sales of wine...Strickland fails to pocket veto the budget language...thousands more head to out of state to buy wines because of better competition, greater selection and lower prices.
4. Strickland and Dann are currently working on banning "gambling devices"...Republican legislature following like a pig led by a nose ring...thousands more to head to ANY of the surrounding states as ALL of which permit some form of gambling.
I thought "sin taxes" were all the rage. But when you ban all of the sins and all the sinners head out of state, what effect does that have on an already BAD economic environment.
Welcome to the Theocracy of Stricklandistan. This is what incrementalism brings forth. All those of the "libertarian" stripe either of the left or the right were either snoozing or backing their pet "sin prohibition". Welcome to the mommy/daddy state (pick your poison). Wonder what we are in store for next.
All I can say is, "Don't F with the Bowling lobby......."
