"Progressive" = Poverty

I just happened to catch this information from the Athens County (OH) Dept. of Family services.

Were you aware that Athens County has the highest poverty rate in the state (27.4%)? What about one of the highest unemployment rates in the state at 6.1%?

But on good note, Athens Ohio is considered the most "progressive" city in the state of Ohio.

Is it possible what makes it the most poverty stricken is also what makes it the most "progressive"?

What's so "progressive" about poverty"?

That list is interesting. There seems to be a common thread amongst many of those cities that the progressives find attractive. They tend to be college towns and very white demographically. Athens, Ann Arbor, Boise, to name a few.

It makes sense really. If I were a white, anti-conservative, professional complainer, I'd want to move to one of these cities where the number one export is lecturing to the rest of the world about how bad everyone else is.

But notice that the OTRs, Detroits, and Harlems of the country are not on the list. By progressives' own definition wouldn't they be even more progressive?

Hmmmm. I wonder why not? Those areas probably boast a 95% democrat voting percentage. Not just the piddly little 50-60% you see on the list. Those should be progressive utopias.

The democrats talk about racism and the proverbial Two Americas. Obviously they must be referring to modern progressivism in America.

This particular list was compiled by some green types.

Unfortunately, most cities aren't terribly green.

As a guy who went to Miami, I love this!

I love the line in the heading, "Progressives interested in joining progressive communities should consider moving to these cities."

I am packing for Detroit as we speak...NOT

Ohio University is located in Southern Ohio which is economically depressed. Remember that it was founded in 1804. What would you have the university do, pick up and move?

With all that "progressive" mental horsepower in the area. You'd think they'd be able to change things in the area so that poverty wasn't so rampant.

But then again, maybe it's all that "progressive" thought that has those people in poverty in the first place.

I went to OU and though I probably always leaned right before I got there, the attitude and behavior of the liberal left in Athens turned me into a full fledged conservative.

This article makes me very happy. I dont typically wish bad things on people, but I get satisfaction out of the numbers from Athens County. That place is the worst.

I am a recovering liberal. it wasn't until I started to recognize that every thing that liberals touch turns to a crime ridden pile of dung until I started to ask why.

Nearly every teacher I had growing up in Lancaster was an anti war lefty, it took years before I could rid my self of the left wing indoctrination.
