A while back I challenged a liberal friend of mine to this question; if liberal policies are so great why is Detroit such an armpit? After all, they haven't seen a republican in that city since a Ford Brother drove through to move to Florida.

Paraphrasing his response "Well Detroit is full of underclass dolts".

Is that right? So what we need to do is follow the election results from people who don't seem to have a very good track record for lifestyle judgment calls.

So what is it Mr. "Progressive"? Are your policies what turns vibrant cities into slums or is the collective judgment of derelicts and douche bags who put you into power?

Branch Gorvidians..... Fail

The leading publication of the Branch Gorvidian global warming cult, The NY Times, is now admitting that it might not be getting warmer after all.........

In an article that might well have deserved publication in the Onion, the New York Times introduced a heretical notion to its readership today. Despite the fact that any skepticism about global warming and the responsibility of humanity for this rise in temperatures is now considered proof of insanity, the Times reported that it appears more than likely that “global temperatures have been relatively stable for a decade and may even drop in the next few years.”

This must come as quite a shock to an American public that has been relentlessly propagandized on this issue and convinced that the end of civilization as we know it is just around the corner. But facts are stubborn things, and for all the hoopla about “saving the planet,” now even the Times is prepared to admit that far from heating up at the exponential rates Al Gore has discussed to near universal applause, it appears that the story is a bit more complicated than he may have let on. Indeed, according to researchers from the British climate-change office and published in the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society, temperatures have hardly budged since 1998 and may well continue to dip in the coming decade.

Life in "Progress" City

From the Queen City of Cincinnati, who hasn't had a conservative run the city since France built the Maginot Line.......

A 41-year-old man with a history of criminal convictions, including one for rape, was arrested and charged Wednesday with four rock-throwing attacks on female motorists since August, injuring two women.

Rodney Maxwell of Avondale is held at the Hamilton County jail in lieu of $250,000 bond. He faces four counts of felonious assault with a deadly weapon.

He threw large rocks through car windows on Aug. 18, Aug. 20 and twice on Sept. 14, court records show.

All but one of the attacks occurred while the women were sitting at a red light in the 600 block of William Howard Taft Road, according to Cincinnati police. One of the Sept. 14 incidents occurred nearby, in the 2500 block of Highland Avenue.

But wait! It gets better for this guy; keep in mind he's all of 41 years old.

Maxwell is scheduled to appear today in Hamilton County Municipal Court. When he does, he also will face a judge on an unrelated charge of sexual imposition.

He is accused of following a woman into an elevator on May 26, standing directly behind her and grabbing her buttocks, court records show. He also allegedly exposed himself.

Maxwell has a prior rape conviction, according to court records, as well convictions for kidnapping, public indecency and aggravated menacing.

Maxwell was convicted of exposing himself to a staff member at the Volunteers of America halfway house in Over-the-Rhine in June 2007, court records show. He also was convicted of telling another staff member he was going to rape and kill someone.

Earlier this year, in July, he was convicted of a second public indecency charge after he approached stopped vehicles on a public street and exposed himself, according to court records.

Maxwell was convicted of a Oct. 2004 assault charge in which he punched a Hamilton County Sheriff's deputy at the county jail. He has been in and out of state prisons and the Hamilton County jail several times over the past 20 years, according to court records.

If you are one of these "progressive" types answer this for me. What the hell is this guy doing on the streets?

Mind you this guy isn't out in "Redville" where this clown would have been behind bars for the bulk of his adult life. No. This guy is totally a product of the "progressive" mind set which lets convicted derelicts back on the streets to offend innocent citizens again.

One of the women was so terrified she had to have her boyfriend drive her to work the next three days.

But she need not worry about any of that if she lives in "Redville", where you can drive to work in peace.

What's so "progressive" about recidivism?

We drove back from Florida yesterday and I set a Cincinnati family speed record of 11:45 minutes and that includes the fact that our house is north of the other family member places.

None the less I'd like to thank the following people for the record (read it as a NASCAR driver would say; with the little extra twang).

I promised back in the summer that I was giving up the blog. But, like a crack whore, it only takes a little bit of news to get me revved up again. I went on a news and sports black out while I was away (what's up with the Bengals over achieving any way), promising the lovely Mrs. Gekko I would only watch the news when others were watching. Lo and behold, the four times I caught a glimpse of a news channel there was The One doing another speech.

C'mon give me more cowbell

In believing what's missing in the health care debate is more Obama to sell it, the administration has announced that in additon to doing five news shows this Sunday (funny how he's not doing Fox given that the people most likely to oppose his plan will be watching that one), he will be out to the Green Bay Chedder Festival, the Preble County Pork Festival, The Millersport Sweet Corn Festival, the Bucyrus Brat festival, cameos on Everyone Hates Chris, The Gilmore Girls, and Supernatural (where he'll play a Messiah like health care character).

In addition, he hopes to invite Taylor Swift and Kanye West over for another beer summit (Taylor will have to have a root beer).

The White House will also send pictures of Obama and a personal email out to every one of those fishy email addresses they collected last month.

They will also send autographed photos of Air Force One flying over New York out to every taxpayer with a cadillac health care plan.

The administration beleives that by all his appearances he will reach every single American; except for all those who oppose his plan or are sick of seeing him.

In an unrelated story, the White House believes any criticism of Obama for being a narcissist is unfair and probably racist.

I know the media has a non legal policy of not naming rape victims in the course of their stories. But maybe they could consider not printing the names of the accused after charges have been dropped because the witness lied..........

The men arrested on the rape charges were Hofstra student Bedward, 21, Felipe, 19, and Jesus , 19, all of the Bronx; and Taveras.

All had been charged with five counts of first-degree rape.

Outside the jail just before 11 Wednesday night, Felipe said he wants to move on.

"I don't even have any hard feelings," he said. "I am happy to be alive. To be a caged animal when you are not guilty is the worst."

But he added, "I'm 19. I have my whole life in front of me, and suddenly it was all over. I was facing 5 to 25 years in jail."

As for what he's going to do next, Taveras was concerned about his job. "I'm going to try to get my job back. HR called me and left a message, but I never got it because I was locked up."

Fetal Photos

I haven't posted on the Jim Pouillon murder because I knew so many other blogs would have bigger and better comments on it.

Personally, the abortion debate bores me. I'm a ardent defender of life but rarely does anything new come up in the debate. The sides are so polarized, discussion seems like a waste of time.

However, Pouillon's death did have me rethinking the abortion issue in this regard.

Let me preface my point with some back up on other issues.

I believe in public viewing of executions. Not because I have a morbid fascination with death, but I believe if the masses can watch it, it can't be cruel and unusual. If they can't, they'll ban it. By keeping executions hidden from the public, it sanitizes the process. It's easy for someone like me to say "fry the bastard" but if I actually watch someone be electrocuted, I believe I could change my mind in a heartbeat.

The same holds true on the torture issue. If people can watch what goes on during interrogations, it can't be torture. I've watched several videos of waterboarding. None of them left me a vision in my mind I can't get rid of; hence, not torture.

Now, how do I relate this to abortion? Apparently, people have been upset with Pouillon because of the graphic nature of pictures he posted on his property. What could be so graphic about pictures of tissue and protoplasm?

In fact, I remember our high school biology lab having a baby pig in a jar filled with phemaldehyde as well as other pickled animals. We had two dissection projects in our class; a rat and a frog. We even got to name said animals (our group won a prize for Rat Scratch Fever). In addition, we got to see cancerous lungs versus a healthy lung.

Here's an idea! Why don't we put the remains of fetuses in various stages of development and have the kiddies in AP biology perform dissections on these remains? I mean c'mon, we've already concluded that these aren't even humans so why let all that mess go to waste? Kids will be amazed to cut open remains to see little hearts, lungs and stomachs.

Even better, take the remains and put them in jars with phemaldehyde. Kids could get a great biology education by seeing the development of a fetus at 1,2, 3, 4, 5, 6 months.

How does that make your stomach feel?

Now, keep that vision in your mind and answer the question......... is that fetus or a life?

Can't make your argument; call them a racist

Have you ever had a political discussion/argument with a liberal and after you've cornered them into either a) admitting they're wrong or b) admitting you're right, then you get a rule changer or a total non-sequitor and suddenly you're discussing something entirely different?

Hence the case for the racist bomb. It's apparently out in democratic talking points since Mo Do, Jimma Carter, Chuck Todd, the House rebuke of Joe Wilson are all avoiding debate by dropping the "you're a racist charge".

On Real Clear Politic's site, almost half of the articles are on the racism charge.

The fact is liberals can't defend their governance. I mean c'mon, how do you defend Detroit? The Washington DC public schools? California? And now we're seeing the implosion of the global warming debate, health care, ACORN et al.

The fact is there were plenty of criticisms of The Billary's health care debacle. I guess the fact that BJ was our first black president was latent, but hidden, racism.

The fact that the country elected a black president off of the heals of a president who was criticized incessantly only hurts Obama. It makes him look week; as though he needs affirmative action aid from his minions.

Besides as Kanye might say if he yanked the microphone from me "It's just not fresh man".

What single payer health care looks like

Probably a lot like single payer public education.................

Instead of President Obama addressing school students across the nation, he might have accomplished more by focusing his attention on the educational rot in schools in the nation's capital. The American Legislative Exchange Council recently came out with their 15th edition of "Report Card on American Education: A State-by-State Analysis." Academic achievement in no state is much to write home about but in Washington, D.C., by any measure, it approaches criminal fraud. Let's look at the numbers.

Only 14 percent of Washington's fourth-graders score at or above proficiency in the reading and math portions of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) test. Their national rank of 51 makes them the nation's worst. Eighth-graders are even further behind with only 12 percent scoring at or above proficiency in reading and 8 percent in math and again the worst performance in the nation. One shouldn't be surprised by Washington student performance on college admissions tests. They have an average composite SAT score of 925 and ACT score of 19.1, compared to the national average respectively of 1017 and 21.1. In terms of national ranking, their SAT and ACT rankings are identical to their fourth- and eighth-grade rankings -- dead last.

Washington's political and education establishment might excuse these outcomes by arguing that because most students are black, the schools are underfunded and overcrowded. Let's look at such a claim. During the 2006-07 academic year, expenditures per pupil averaged $13,848 compared to a national average of $9,389. That made Washington's per pupil expenditures the third highest in the nation coming in behind New Jersey ($14,998) and New York ($14,747). Washington's teacher-student ratio is 13.9 compared with the national average of 15.3 students per teacher, ranking 18th in the nation. What about teacher salaries? Washington's teachers are the highest paid in the nation, having an average annual salary of $61,195 compared with the nation's average $46,593. Despite the academic performance of Washington's students, they have a graduation rate of 61 percent compared to the national average of 70 percent. That suggests the issuance of fraudulent high school diplomas.

Currently, Washington, D.C. has an Opportunity Scholarship Program, which allows qualified low-income families to claim up to $7,500 per student toward a private education of their choice. Obama's Democratic Congress, acting on the behalf of the education establishment, has killed the program and there's the possibility that the 1,700 students currently enrolled will have to return to D.C. public schools.

The staunchest opponents of school choice are hypocrites. They want, demand and can afford school choice for themselves but for others not so affluent school choice it is a different matter. President and Mrs. Barack Obama enrolled their two daughters in Washington's most prestigious Sidwell Friends School, forking over $28,000 a year for each girl. Whilst senator from Illinois, the Obama's enrolled their girls in the University of Chicago's Laboratory School, a private school in Chicago charging almost $20,000 for each girl. A Heritage Foundation survey found that 37 percent of the members of the House of Representatives and 45 percent of senators in the 110th Congress sent their children to private schools. Public school teachers enroll their own children in nonpublic schools to a much greater extent than the general public, in some cases four and five times greater. In Cincinnati, about 41 percent of public school teachers send their children to nonpublic schools. In Chicago it is 38 percent, Los Angeles 24 percent, New York 32 percent, and Philadelphia 44 percent. The behavior of public school teachers is quite suggestive. It's like my offering to take you to a restaurant and you find out that neither the chef nor the waiters eat there. That suggests they have some inside information from which you might benefit.

It's hard to believe that Bush was voted out of office last November, but somehow is able to collect data information on US citizens.........

The White House is collecting and storing comments and videos placed on its social-networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube without notifying or asking the consent of the site users, a failure that appears to run counter to President Obama's promise of a transparent government and his pledge to protect privacy on the Internet.

Marc Rotenberg, president of the Electronic Privacy Information Center, said the White House signaled that it would insist on open dealings with Internet users and, in fact, should feel obliged to disclose that it is collecting such information.

"The White House has not been adequately transparent, particularly on how it makes use of new social media techniques, such as this example," he said.

It’s going to be awfully hard to avoid President Obama on television this Sunday.

The president is going to appear on five Sunday talk shows – five – to press his case for health care, White House officials disclosed. That is a presidential record.

Mr. Obama is going to appear on This Week with George Stephanopoulos on ABC. And Meet the Press on NBC. And Face the Nation on CBS. In between, he is going to sit down for interviews on CNN and Univision. (Fox News didn’t make the cut).

Newsmakers in the past have managed to pull of the unlikely feat of hitting the big three Sunday interview shows on CBS, NBC and ABC. But this is a presidential first.

If there’s one thing this White House doesn’t seem worried about, it is that Americans will get tired of seeing President Obama. His talk-show marathon will come after the speech on Wall Street today and a rally in Maryland later this week.

Because it's clear that American don't know where the president stands on anything.

Richard Cohen on Charlie Rangel..........

There is something wrong with Charlie Rangel. Either he did not notice that he was worth about twice as much as he said he was -- which is downright worrisome in a congressional leader -- or he thinks that he's above the law, which is downright worrisome in a congressional leader. I was with Rangel on election night last year and heard him speak eloquently about what it meant for a black person to become president of the United States -- my God, who would have thought this day would ever come? -- and he moved me to tears. So I don't think age has muddled his brain. He is sharper on a bad day than most people on a good one.

But he suffers from the degenerative disease called Congressional Sclerosis. Its symptom is the belief that the rules, especially the petty ones, no longer apply to you. This happens over time. It comes with seniority and a sense of victimization that combine to produce the onset of entitlement for goodies to which, in the course of things, you are not entitled. All this is abetted by the righteous belief that everyone else is making money and taking private planes and dipping their tootsies in the balmy Caribbean on a given February Friday -- and so why can't you? You have the power and the staff -- just look at all those people! -- and flunkies who will hold the elevator for you, pick you up at Reagan National Airport and on the other end at La Guardia -- and you ought to have some commensurate luxuries. This is only right.

I don't see any bias

I read this article yesterday and thought about posting on it but then just decided to pass because it was so obvious. After reading more articles about the media bias I thought I would come back to it.

Now, read this passage and tell me how one word makes this a total democratic talking point......

Add to that the absence of Obama from the top of the ticket, which could reduce turnout among blacks, liberals and young people, and the likelihood of a highly motivated GOP base confused by the president's proposed health care plan and angry at what they consider reckless spending and high debt.

Seriously? If these clowns really want to pass themselves off as "objective" journalists, who's really "confused"?

In a shocker only to cave dwellers, a new poll indicates that the public believe news media provide inaccurate news.....

The survey found that 63 percent of the respondents thought the information they get from the media was often off base. In Pew Research's previous survey, in 2007, 53 percent of the people expressed that doubt about accuracy.

The findings indicate U.S. newspapers and broadcasters could be alienating the audiences they are struggling to keep as they try to survive financial turmoil. Pew Research didn't attempt to gauge how shrinking newspapers, reduced staffs and other cutbacks at news organizations are affecting people's perceptions, although the reductions probably haven't helped, said Michael Dimock, an associate director for the center.

The financial problems mainly stem from a steep decline in the ad sales that generate most of the media's revenue. Newspapers' print editions have been losing readers to the Internet, and broadcasters' audiences are fragmenting in an age of cable TV and satellite radio.

Newspaper ad sales plunged by 29 percent, or nearly $5.5 billion, during the first half of this year, according to the Newspaper Association of America. TV ad revenue on broadcast stations dropped by 12 percent, or nearly $3 billion, during the same period, according to the Television Bureau of Advertising. Radio advertising fell by 23 percent, or $2.3 billion, according to the Radio Advertising Bureau.

The budget squeeze "means facts don't get checked as carefully as they should," according to Bill Keller, executive editor of The New York Times.

Actually Bill, I think that statement is incorrect on it's face. I believe your fact checking is just as good as it's always been; which is horrible. It's just that now, there's a medium above traditional news organizations able to do stuff like, 'um, google searches, to call you out.

In recent days and weeks three major news stories have broke here online, at Fox News or the Washington Times; everywhere but the mainstream media. Worse still, as the stories unfolded, the media willfully ignored them until, much to their embarrassment, they were forced to give grudging coverage only after official action — in the form of a resignation (Van Jones), reassignment (the NEA) or dismissal (ACORN) — occurred that could no longer be ignored.

Mainstream news outlets have been caught off guard before, but they used to play catch up. Today they play “hide the ball.” For as long as I’ve been politically aware the media’s been biased, but willfully ignoring a major national news story at great cost to their credibility and relevance is a new low. So what changed?

Ironically enough, scrutiny and accountability is the cause of much of the media’s increasingly disgraceful behavior.

Once trailblazer media watchdogs like talk radio, The Media Research Center and Bernard Goldberg were joined with the awesome power of the Internet and Fox News, the media’s sins of omission and commission could no longer be hidden from the general public, or denied. This gave the Fourth Estate two options. They could either: A) Clean up their act and do their jobs honorably … or B) Surrender their fig leafs of objectivity and run amok as the ideologues they really are.

Doing their jobs honorably would mean a setback for the Leftist cause, and so they chose B.

The good news is that this appears to be a suicide run.

Rather than reminding the women that prostitution is dangerous and illegal and advising them to change their careers, counselors at the social-services group shockingly offer suggestions on how they can launder their earnings.

"Honesty is not going to get you the house," a loan counselor at the offices told two activists posing as a mortgage-seeking pimp and prostitute.

"You can't say what you do for a living."

Remind me again. Who's responsible for unqualified people getting home mortgages?

Let's face it, whether you are conservative, moderate or liberal, Democrat or Republican, if you are rational and fair, you should agree: Congressman Joe Wilson, South Carolina Republican, was rude, obnoxious and offensive when he shouted out at President Obama during Wednesday night's speech before a joint session of Congress, "You lie."

He was also wrong.

Lying requires intentional deception - not accidental or careless falsehoods. "To lie is to state something that one knows to be false," according to Wikipedia. Lying is a "false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive, an intentional falsehood," according to Dictionary.com.

It's a sad defense when someone offers up the defense that he didn't "intentionally" deceive.

When I was in the eighth grade, I went to a school dance with Kelly Rovner. People told me I was out of my league, yet I built up enough courage to ask her to the dance. Our evening was going well. I executed the gameplan to perfection....a nice pre-dance meal at Pizza Hut, carefully using all of my pre-rehearsed lines, I was even holding my own on the dance the floor. As the night reached it's conclusion, I reveled in actually pulling off what many had thought impossible: a succesful date with one of the 10-15 best looking 13 year-olds in the school. I also considered my move. Me being 13 and not well versed in the art of making advances on girls (a trend that would continue deep into adulthood), I selected "grab her butt" among the various playcalls in my final-song-of-the-night gameplan. As "One More Try" by Timmy T blared across the gym, I grabbed my handful and waited for her response. After a brief delay, it came: a full-on, toe-first, direct-contact kick to my balls that sent shockwaves throughout my entire body, and amounts of pain that if I think hard enough, I can still feel.

I felt exactly the same way as I watched Brandon Stokely tiptoe the sideline today at PBS.

Of course I can't gloat a whole lot. Being a Bears fan I was looking forward to watching them play with a real quarterback for the first time since leather helmets disappeared. I didn't realize that Jay Cutler was hurt and they replaced him with Rick Mirer, Jim Miller, Bob Avellini, Vince Evans, Steve Fuller, Doug Flutie, Peter Tom Willis, Cade McNown, etc.

Nearly 4,000 retired government workers have pensions that pay them at least $100,000 a year. They include politicians, judges, doctors and school administrators, as well as top cops, firefighters and park officials.

More than half have collected more than $1 million each since they retired. A few have topped $2 million. And five have gotten more than $3 million each, a Chicago Sun-Times investigation found.

And these numbers are soaring faster than taxpayers can afford.

Consider:

• 3,958 retirees have pensions paying $100,000 or more a year.

• 2,255 of those retirees have each collected more than $1 million in pension benefits. They include two doctors who have each gotten more than $3 million over the last 10 years.

• 14,280 retirees have pensions that pay them more than their final salaries. That's largely because all government pensions in Illinois automatically increase 3 percent every year.

• 11,521 retirees get checks from two or more government pension plans.

• 23 widows each get more than $100,000 a year, every year, in survivor benefits.

• 16 judges' widows have each gotten more than $1 million since their husbands died

The price of a public education at the University of California may be going up again - not once, but twice.

UC President Mark Yudof is recommending a 15 percent increase in in-state undergraduate fees that would take effect next spring, and another 15 percent increase on top of that beginning in fall 2010.

The governing Board of Regents will hear details of the proposal - which also includes graduate-level fee increases of 15 percent - at its meeting Wednesday, but won't vote until November.

If approved, the undergraduate fee increases would be the eighth and ninth in seven years, and would send the price of a year at UC above the $10,000 mark for the first time next fall.

"It makes me really angry," said Gracelynne West, 20, a first-generation college student at UC San Diego who expects to graduate in June with years of debt to pay off.

Riddle me this Batman. How is it the liberals keep bitching about health care costs but never education costs?

Even better; do you know how the feds go after credit cards companies for targeting college kids loaded up on debt but never the predatory federal student loan programs, who load up kids with liberal arts degrees with debt that measure in the tens of thousands?

As billions of dollars from the economic stimulus plan pour through the U.S. economy, members of Congress, the administration and regulatory agencies are increasingly worried about the risks of fraud.

Earl Devaney told Congress on Thursday the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board he chairs is investigating those who may have misappropriated stimulus money.

His board has "forwarded more than 100 matters to various IGs (inspector generals to ensure heightened scrutiny of specific procurements that board staff has identified as potentially problematic.

The former judge-executive of Perry County plans to plead guilty in a federal vote-buying case.

The attorney for Sherman Neace filed a motion Thursday seeking a hearing for Neace to be rearraigned, meaning to enter a guilty plea. The hearing has not been scheduled.

Neace, 68, and Chester Jones, 65, another longtime county official, are charged with using $7,500 from the state Democratic Party to buy votes for themselves last November.

In that election, Neace was running for magistrate and Jones for school board.

According to the indictment, the state Democratic Party sent the local Democratic Party Executive Committee $7,500 to use in promoting voting. Jones was chairman of the local party executive committee.

Jones allegedly went to the bank where the party had its account and got 75 blank counter checks and filled them out for $100 apiece, leaving the payee line blank, the indictment said.

Not if you work for Boeing where one of their plants just voted to decertify.....

Boeing Co. workers voted overwhelmingly Thursday to disband the union at the North Charleston factory, boosting prospects corporate officials will consider the Lowcountry for a second assembly line for the 787 Dreamliner.

Of the fewer than 300 International Association of Machinist organized workers at the local plant eligible to vote, 199 voted to decertify the union and 68 voted to keep it in place, Boeing spokeswoman Candy Eslinger said.

“We are pleased that hourly workers elected to deal directly with the company on employment matters,” Eslinger said. “We are also pleased that Boeing Charleston can move forward and meet commitments on the 787 program.”

Those folks probably just saved their jobs.

Here's a photo from a parade in Loveland, Ohio honoring the police and fire sacrifice during the 9/11 attacks two years previous.

The city did this parade for another year and then it just drifted away. Like the memory of those attacks eight years ago.

I'll never let that memory fade.

Notice how education prices have gone up astronomically. It's probably only a coincidence that the government is involved.

Look at housing. It's probably only a coincidence that the spike in housing prices occurred only after the government got involved in attempting to increase home ownership.

It probably only a coincidence that health care prices rise faster than inflation only after the government created Medicare.

Yeah, it's only a coincidence.

We Dont Get Fooled Again

We already pay for other's health care

One of the myths being perpetrated by liberals on this health care issue is that there is this huge population out there with no access to health care.

This a complete lie.

Maybe you are not aware, but the fact is, if you are a property owner, you are already paying to for people's health care via property taxes.

As you can see from the scan to the side, Gordon Gekko pays $43.38 every six months for indigent health care. That's $86.76 a year, one little business property in Loveland. That doesn't count the taxes we pay on our palatial three bedroom palace in Maineville.

Those tax dollars are used to cover indigent people who need medical care.

Now, let's say you show up to the emergency room with a gun shot wound and no insurance card. You get treated.

If you don't have insurance but you can afford to pay, you pay. Just like you would pay for the lottery tickets and six packs you could have used for insurance.

If you are indigent, you fill out some forms and this fund pays for you on a sliding scale. Case closed.

I'm sick of hearing about the numbers of people who have no coverage. The fact is people get health care in this country. As much as maybe some need? No. But not so many that we need to initiate an entire socialized program.

So Obamunists, get off our backs.

17 million recently bought health insurance

At least we're led to believe by Obiwan Obama.......

"We are the only advanced democracy on Earth - the only wealthy nation - that allows such hardships for millions of its people," Obama said. "There are now more than 30 million American citizens who cannot get coverage. In just a two year period, one in every three Americans goes without health care coverage at some point. And every day, 14,000 Americans lose their coverage. In other words, it can happen to anyone."

That's quite a change from earlier this year when Obama was using different numbers. On July 22, the president used a much larger number in a press conference. He said had cited "47 million Americans" with no insurance, a mistake that had been made the previous two years by many in the media (emphasis added).

"This is not just about the 47 million Americans who don't have any health insurance at all," Obama said. "Reform is about every American who has ever feared that they may lose their coverage if they become too sick, or lose their job, or change their job. It's about every small business that has been forced to lay off employees or cut back on their coverage because it became too expensive."

And with the exception of a Fox News commentator Frank Luntz on the FNC's Sept 9 "Hannity" and ABC News White House correspondent Jake Tapper, who pointed it out on the social media Web site Twitter, the subtle change when relatively unnoticed by the media.

The most generous interpretation of 2008 homicide warrants and convictions supplied by local law enforcement officials shows that in more than 70 percent of homicide cases no suspect has been identified, arrested, charged or convicted of a killing.

"The reality is, we have a reputation in the state that if you want to commit a crime, come here," said Kym Worthy, the Wayne County prosecutor who said she does not challenge the analysis. "The chance of arrest is quite low, the chance of prosecution is quite low. What does that say about the commitment to the public's safety?"

A 31-year-old pregnant woman who was shot in the stomach early Monday gave birth to a boy later in the day, and she and her baby are expected to recover, Cincinnati police said Tuesday.

Ebony Mackey of West Price Hill was shot in the arm and stomach about 3:30 a.m. Monday during a street robbery in the 200 block of Peete Street, said Lt. Mark Briede, spokesman for Cincinnati police.

Out of curiosity, when the EMT's ran her to the ER, did they get her insurance information prior to admitting? Or did they treat her first?

By the way, nothing like being pregnant and out and about at 3:30 AM in the morning. Maybe she got a craving for White Castles.

Meet Stephon Bennett. Why is Mr. Bennett in the news?

Police said they arrested a suspected robber on Sunday after he returned to his victim's home to ask her out on a date.

According to investigators, Stephfon Bennett was one of three men who robbed a couple on the city's north side late Sunday night, 10TV News reported.

Less than two hours after the robbery, police said that Bennett, 20, returned to the home and asked Diana Martinez out on a date.

"We are not exactly sure what he was thinking at the time," said Columbus police Sgt. Sean Laird. "She recognized him right away when he returned and was able to have her cousin call 911."

So given that people are having a hard time wondering "what he was thinking at the time", did that make him a automatic vote for The One or Four More Years of Bush?

For example, Texas has only 7 engineers and an annual budget of $435,000 to regulate more than 7,400 dams. Alabama does not have a dam safety program despite the fact that there are more than 2,000 dams in the state. And in some states many dams are specifically exempted from inspection by state law. In Missouri there are 740 high hazard potential dams that are exempted because they are less than 35 feet in height.

In 2009, the Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO) estimated that the total cost to repair the nation’s dams totaled $50 billion and the needed investment to repair high hazard potential dams totaled $16 billion. These estimates have increased significantly since ASDSO’s 2003 report, when the needed investment for all dams was $36 billion and the needed investment for high hazard potential dams was $10.1 billion.

The 2009 report noted an additional investment of $12 billion over 10 years will be needed to eliminate the existing backlog of 4,095 deficient dams. That means the number of high hazard potential dams repaired must be increased by 270 dams per year above the number now being repaired, at an additional annual cost of $850 million a year. To address the additional 2,276 deficient—but not high hazard—dams, an additional $335 million per year is required, totaling $3.4 billion over the next 10 years

This column has been calling for heads to roll at the White House from the get-go. Thankfully, they do seem to be falling faster — as witness the middle-of-the-night bum's rush given to "green jobs" czar Van Jones last week — but there's a long way to go. An example of the provincial amateurism of current White House operations was the way the president's innocuous back-to-school pep talk got sandbagged by imbecilic support materials soliciting students to write fantasy letters to "help" the president (a coercive directive quickly withdrawn under pressure). Even worse, the entire project was stupidly scheduled to conflict with the busy opening days of class this week, when harried teachers already have their hands full. Comically, some major school districts, including New York City, were not even open yet. And this is the gang who wants to revamp national healthcare?

Why did it take so long for Democrats to realize that this year's tea party and town hall uprisings were a genuine barometer of widespread public discontent and not simply a staged scenario by kooks and conspirators? First of all, too many political analysts still think that network and cable TV chat shows are the central forums of national debate. But the truly transformative political energy is coming from talk radio and the Web — both of which Democrat-sponsored proposals have threatened to stifle, in defiance of freedom of speech guarantees in the Bill of Rights. I rarely watch TV anymore except for cooking shows, history and science documentaries, old movies and football. Hence I was blissfully free from the retching overkill that followed the deaths of Michael Jackson and Ted Kennedy — I never saw a single minute of any of it. It was on talk radio, which I have resumed monitoring around the clock because of the healthcare fiasco, that I heard the passionate voices of callers coming directly from the town hall meetings. Hence I was alerted to the depth and intensity of national sentiment long before others who were simply watching staged, manipulated TV shows.

Why has the Democratic Party become so arrogantly detached from ordinary Americans? Though they claim to speak for the poor and dispossessed, Democrats have increasingly become the party of an upper-middle-class professional elite, top-heavy with journalists, academics and lawyers (one reason for the hypocritical absence of tort reform in the healthcare bills). Weirdly, given their worship of highly individualistic, secularized self-actualization, such professionals are as a whole amazingly credulous these days about big-government solutions to every social problem. They see no danger in expanding government authority and intrusive, wasteful bureaucracy. This is, I submit, a stunning turn away from the anti-authority and anti-establishment principles of authentic 1960s leftism.

Hiring expectations for the fourth quarter are improving around the world except in one key region: the U.S. That's the finding of two quarterly employment outlook surveys released Tuesday by Manpower Inc. ( MAN).

Employers in 17 of the 35 countries and territories expect to add to their workforce next quarter, according to the Manpower Global Outlook Survey. And 20 of 34 regions reported an improvement in the job outlook, "indicating an easing in the pattern of layoffs prevalent in the past several quarters," the survey said.

A key exception to the improving trend was in the U.S. The Manpower U.S. Employment Outlook Survey showed among U.S. employers, only 12% expect to add to their workforce in the October-December period, while 14% expect a decline and 69% see no change. Manpower says the results suggest employers expect a slight decrease in the rate of hiring when compared to third-quarter results. The outlook is "considerably weaker" than the year-ago results, the survey said.

Now why might that be.

1) The increase in the minimum wage
2) The uncertainty regarding health care mandates
3) The uncertainty surrounding card check legislation
4) The over regulation on management compensation
5) Increases in income taxes and payroll taxes.

Yeah I can see why US employers might be a little hesitant to hire on employees in this environment. Do the Obamunists?

One plain fact should outweigh all the words of Barack Obama and all the impressive trappings of the setting in which he says them: He tried to rush Congress into passing a massive government takeover of the nation's medical care before the August recess-- for a program that would not take effect until 2013!

Whatever President Obama is, he is not stupid. If the urgency to pass the medical care legislation was to deal with a problem immediately, then why postpone the date when the legislation goes into effect for years-- more specifically, until the year after the next Presidential election?

If this is such an urgently needed program, why wait for years to put it into effect? And if the public is going to benefit from this, why not let them experience those benefits before the next Presidential election?

If it is not urgent that the legislation goes into effect immediately, then why don't we have time to go through the normal process of holding Congressional hearings on the pros and cons, accompanied by public discussions of its innumerable provisions? What sense does it make to "hurry up and wait" on something that is literally a matter of life and death?

If we do not believe that the President is stupid, then what do we believe? The only reasonable alternative seems to be that he wanted to get this massive government takeover of medical care passed into law before the public understood what was in it.

Moreover, he wanted to get re-elected in 2012 before the public experienced what its actual consequences would be.

Unfortunately, this way of doing things is all too typical of the way this administration has acted on a wide range of issues.

Congratulations UC football

Rutgers was one of about four schools with a shot at the Big East championship along with Pitt, WVU and S.Florida.

So given the fact that UC was on the road, first game and the loss of a bunch of seniors, i was worried about a tough loss to start the season.

WOW.

That was as thorough a butt kicking you'll see in college football.

The UC offense just imposed their will on Rutgers. Given the early domination of the offense, the defense was able sit back and play their typical soft zones.

Now the question will be, was UC really that good or was Rutgers totally overrated.

We'll see.

Now it's kickoff for Miami/FSU. There's a lot of worse things than watching Erin Andrews.

Any failure of Obama to get anything done is the democrat's failure; plain and simple. It's also why it's important to pressure all republicans not to advance this socialist agenda. Force the dems to own their messes (see California).

Media malfunction II

Now the media gets to portray the Van Jones resignation as a product of a vast right wing lynch mob by reporting that Jones was guilty of calling republicans a bad word and signing a "truther" statement. Totally ignoring the fact that he was a self described communist and a litany of other offenses that made him totally unfit for a public office.

In addition, it should be noted that the NY Times, Washington Post, ABC, NBC, CBS et al reported not one thing about Jones until this weekend.

Gateway Pundit, a conservative blog, did all the leg work on a story that was a slam dunk scoop for the traditional media outlets. Well, except for the fact that they would have let go of the Obama water buckets for a couple of hours.

As Times reporters James C. McKinley Jr. and Sam Dillon wrote: “Mark Steyn, a Canadian author and political commentator, speaking on the Rush Limbaugh show on Wednesday, accused Mr. Obama of trying to create a cult of personality, comparing him to Saddam Hussein and Kim Jong Il, the North Korean leader.”

So of course, since the NY Times didn't fact check it, every other media outlet simply parroted this misstatement (read all the allegedly credible news sources here)

So what did Steyn actually say about the Obama cult of personality?

Oh, dear! “A Canadian author”: Talk about damning with faint credentialization. I don’t know what’s crueler, the “Canadian” or the indefinite article. As to the rest of it, well, that’s one way of putting it. Here’s what I said on Wednesday re dear old Saddam and Kim: “Obviously we’re not talking about the cult of personality on the Saddam Hussein/Kim Jong-Il scale.”

Big difference eh?

But it really explains why a lie from the Times spreads like a R2D2 virus across the traditional news organism.
