This weekend, as the Cuban national soccer team was preparting to play the U.S. team in Washington, D.C., two of its members defected:

Sharing details in a telephone interview with The Washington Post last night, Alcantara said he was in the lobby, wearing a casual shirt, shorts and tennis shoes, when he saw the coaches wander into the gift shop. He rode the escalator down to street level and "started running like crazy and didn't look behind," he said through an interpreter who arranged the interview and requested anonymity for political reasons.

After sprinting for about eight blocks, Alcantara said he flagged down a taxi and, with the few words of English he knew, told the driver, "Go, go, go!"

Apparently the worker's paradise isn't all that it's cracked up to be:

Alcantara described poor treatment of soccer players: bad food that was rationed, terrible field conditions and a lack of equipment, cleats and uniforms. Because there are technically no professional athletes in Cuba, Alcantara said his occupation was officially maintenance worker at a sports complex, a job he never performed.

Before departing Cuba late last week, he did not tell his parents of his plans and never discussed it with his teammates because "no one on the team trusts anyone," he said. At least one member of Cuba's traveling delegation, he claimed, is a government spy.

After Thursday's training session in Washington, the team returned to the hotel and the players reported to their rooms. The telephones had been removed by Cuban officials, a standard practice to discourage players from communicating with outsiders on foreign trips.

I'll bet he's going to regret his his choice when he forks out for his first MRI.

Why we're angry

I guess it's big news that a number of people are booing McCain when he refuses to give The Messiah a verbal beat down.

Why are we so angry?

1) We see ACORN flat out openly attempting to steal an election and no one seems to care.

2) We see a main stream media so in the pockets of the Obama campaign he must be walking around with an eternal erection.

3) We see our 401k's and mutual funds drop 30-50% as a result of democratic corruption and nary a word on the evening news.

4) And our alleged standard bearer and presidential candidate, doesn't have the balls to point all this out and beat his opponent over the head with it.

You're damn straight I'm pissed. And it isn't going away soon.

Former President Jimmy Carter said on Friday the "atrocious economic policies" of the Bush administration had caused the worst global financial crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s.

Carter told reporters on a stopover in Brussels that "profligate spending," massive borrowing and dramatic tax cuts since President George W. Bush took office in 2001 were behind the market turmoil and economic crisis.

"I think it's because of the atrocious economic policies of the Bush administration," said the 84-year-old Democrat, who served in the White House from 1977-1981 during a period of high inflation and energy crisis.

Whoever wins next month's U.S. presidential election would inherit economic problems that would force them to postpone implementing some of their proposed reforms, he said.

"The economic situation is an entrenched problem. It is going to take years to correct what has been done economically," Carter said, adding he hoped Democrat Barrack Obama would win and immediately improve Washington's image in the world.

It's kind of interesting that Jimma showed up on this article.

Friday, I had lunch with a client who's business went down the toilet in the late 1970's when the interest rate on his business property shot up to 28%. Thanks for the memories Jimma.

A long weekend

Sorry for the lack of posts. Things have finally slowed down from a busy weekend...

Friday

Gordon and his lovely bride went to the Black Keys at the Madison Theatre in Covington, KY.

I'm always amazed at the amount of sound bands with three instruments can kick out (Led Zeppelin, Rush, ZZ Top, etc.) but the Black Keys have two; a drum and a guitar.

Personally, the lovely Mrs. Gekko is a bigger fan of the indie rock scene. None the less, these guys are talented. But I think their music is largely limited with just the two guys in the band. You end up listening to what amounts to a series of guitar riffs and that gets old for me.

Saturday

After a late Friday night, Gordon got up for a workout and a 12:00 kick off for the UC - Rutgers game. Is there anything more draining than drinking beer in 85 degree heat on a hangover? The game sure didn't add any energy to the day.

And of course Sunday, during commercials of the Bears game, I got to watch the Bengals stink it up against the Jets. Marvin's been offically Bengalized.

How can you tell that the economy is not all that bad? Next Sunday, there will be 60,000 plus idiots pay $70 plus for the right to be entertained by a pile of excrement. Ain't America great!!!!!

Why Ayers Matters

I just happened to catch a segment of Rush and he really hits the Ayers thing right on the head.

Paraphrasing, he noted that it's not enough to frame Ayers as a "domestic terrorist". Instead we need to compare Bill Ayers with Timothy McVeigh. Both are unrepentant, both sought out to destroy government institutions, both we're willing to kill innocent citizens who's only crimes we're to be American (McVeigh just killed more).

Bill Ayers was the Timothy McVeigh of his era.

Now imagine McVeigh getting off on a technicality. If he lived in your neighborhood would you associate with him? Sit on a board with him? Would you want him educating your child about the America he hates? Do you think you'd vote for some conservative candidate who did these things?

In fact, time has inoculated just how violent Ayers was. The fact that he's never publicly renounced any of his group's activities despite the impact this has had on Obama only makes his hatred of America clearer.

At first, Obama claimed he didn't know anything of Ayers activities. I could buy that since I'm Obama's age and I don't remember Ayers specifically (But I do remember Patti Hearst and the SLA).

But then Obama claims that he thought Ayers was "rehabilitated".

How could you think he was rehabilitated when you never knew of his crimes to begin with?

Was that New York Times article where Ayers was stepping on the flag? I know nothing says repentance like saying you wish you could have done more.

Once again, Obama has been surrounded by people who have been outspoken American haters. You don't hear Ayers, Pfleger, Wright ever say "I was taken out of context".

Well the context of Obama's associations is that he's an American hating marxist.

Give this kid a kick in the butt

If you are a regular reader, you know that I'm no fan of public schools.

One of the reasons is that they have to put up with this kind of BS. From Paul Daugherty.

Much discussion the past few days about the Loveland mother who sued the school district so her son could play football his senior year. The edited version:

Kid nabbed by Loveland cops over the summer, for underage drinking. Cops report it to the school.

Per the school's conduct policy, kid suspended for 40 pct of the season, 4 games.

Mom hires lawyer, gets a judge to grant her son an injunction. Son who broke the conduct policy hasn't missed a game.

Loveland Schools' biggest concern, understandably, is what sort of teeth does its policy have, now that a judge has decided to take over school discipline? If your conduct code is challenged by every misguided parent out there, what's the use of having a conduct policy?

Now it seems to me that schools have enough problems without having to go to court each and every time they enforce a rule on a kid.

There's probably a reason this kid is a giant turd and she lives in his household.

But even this doesn't fully describe the extreme nature of this candidate. He can be tied directly to a malevolent overarching strategy that has motivated many, if not all, of the most destructive radical leftist organizations in the United States since the 1960s.

If this guy was looking for someone to connect the dots he should have read this post.

So, if this report is correct, something's got to give.

In June sources released information that during his campaign for the State Senate in Illinois, Barack Obama was endorsed by an organization known as the Chicago "New Party". The 'New Party' was a political party established by the Democratic Socialists of America (the DSA) to push forth the socialist principles of the DSA by focusing on winnable elections at a local level and spreading the Socialist movement upwards. ...

After allegations surfaced in early summer over the 'New Party's' endorsement of Obama, the Obama campaign along with the remnants of the New Party and Democratic Socialists of America claimed that Obama was never a member of either organization. The DSA and 'New Party' then systematically attempted to cover up any ties between Obama and the Socialist Organizations. However, it now appears that Barack Obama was indeed a certified and acknowledged member of the DSA's New Party.

On Tuesday, I discovered a web page that had been scrubbed from the New Party's website. The web page which was published in October 1996, was an internet newsletter update on that years congressional races. Although the web page was deleted from the New Party's website, the non-profit Internet Archive Organization had archived the page.

Are there really undecideds?

According to Karl Rove the voters haven't decided yet....

I'm just curious as to the number of these undecideds who will end up not voting at all. If you haven't made up your mind as to which of these two ding dongs you will vote for, what's going to happen in the next 20 plus days to change that?

Will you just decide to be undecided and not vote at all?

Will you decide when you get into the poll booth?

It seems to me that by now most voters have decided something. Maybe they're like myself, lining up with McCain although the gag effect has me wondering.

Maybe they've decided on Obama but the thought of actually pulling the lever for "PRESIDENT OBAMA" just doesn't have a good ring to it.

Maybe all these undecideds will just decide to stay home.
