Demographics
Here's an interesting piece by Michael Barone regarding the population trends around the country.
He notes the trend for affluent population flight out of cities like San Francisco, LA, NY etc. to be replaced by an immigrant underclass.
He also notes the flight out of once long time large cities like Detroit to cities such as Phoenix & Dallas.
Ultimately, I think we're looking at two America's within two generations Red and Blue not too unlike the map above. With the differences in economic class, ethnicity, and cultural values we could see some type of internal split between the two America's much like Quebec from the rest of Canada.
