Four more year of Bush

The Imperial Obama presidency.........

President Barack Obama is morphing into George W. Bush, as administration attorneys repeatedly adopt the executive-authority and national-security rationales that their Republican predecessors preferred.

In courtroom battles and freedom-of-information fights from Washington, D.C., to California, Obama's legal arguments repeatedly mirror Bush's: White House turf is to be protected, secrets must be retained and dire warnings are wielded as weapons.

"It's putting up a veritable wall around the White House, and it's so at odds with Obama's campaign commitment to more open government," said Anne Weismann, chief counsel for Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a legal watchdog group.

There is always a power grab that is part of the presidency, or any position of power. Always, always, always. It is a law of political science. Republican or democrat.

For anyone who follows this stuff to be surprised that Obama would be any different is just sheer naiivety. The amazing thing is that it is mainly scholars and journalists who fell for it.

Here's the point. The power and size of government should be smaller. That way, when there is a power grab, there is less to grab. That's the way the authors of the constitution designed it.

It is that idea that is now being bastardized. Yes, by democrats, but more by republicans who were complicit on the growth of government when they were supposed to be the gaurdians of the small government ideal. We have real democrates and democrat-lite (republicans).

The real republicans will have a long stuggle to get back. Until then the american people (all american people, black, white, red, yellow, men and women) better get used to their new master: not just Obama, but thousands of Washington-based think tank type bureaucratic lawyers. These will be the people from whom we will be asking permission for a potty break.
