Fascist America

Did you know we were around step 8 of a 10 step program to have a fascist regime in the US?

I know I didn't. That why I read such intellectual heavy weights like Naomi Wolf, who keep me informed about the "real" things going on in this country.

The steps
1. Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy
2. Create a gulag
3. Develop a thug caste
4. Set up an internal surveillance system
5. Harass citizens' groups
6. Engage in arbitrary detention and release
7. Target key individuals
8. Control the press
9. Dissent equals treason
10. Suspend the rule of law
More.....

How can you take these people seriously? I'm guessing she'd call herself a progressive. I think she is in an alternative reality. But then she's also the one who thought Al Gore should wear earth tones. So who am I to say.

It's unclear to me exactly which points of hers that you "can't take seriously".

Here's an idea... Instead of expressing useless incredulity, why not elaborate in a more extensively rational and logical manner exactly why she is wrong.

Just simply saying, "ha!" isn't particularly enlightening.

Jason,

These are things that most people in power attempt to do to stay in power. Think about it. Clinton did it. Political correctness is another name for "Dissent equals treason". CNN is another name for "Control the press". I could find examples of all 10 being attempted in any administration.

The degree to which they are successful determines facism, and we have never been near it in the US. Not even during Clinton.

Naomi is just using an clever little list to make her case because her guy is not the one in power.

But we are always in danger without vigilence. The best way to minimize the chance for facism is to minimize the size and power of government. If the government keeps growing the civilian population is in danger of being swallowed up by facisam.

Oh, make no mistake.. I'm not trying to say she isn't only grinding an axe.. What I am asking us to consider is whether her points are true. Everything she says could also apply to left wing politicians and such...but whether or not that is the case is irrelevant.

Bottom line...we are all prone to self-deception when it comes to "our guy".. Which is why, I am sure, "conservatives" are dismissing her argument... because it attacks their guy.
