It's nice to see Mayor Mallory working hard to stop crime in the city of Cincinnati. With all the track meets at the (excellent rated) suburban schools, you'd think there would be all kinds of murders out there. (My theory is he's worried his shooting abilities will rank with his baseball throwing skills.) Chalk this one up to worthless, symbolic politics.
When Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory starts Saturday's 5K College Hill Rhythm Race, he'll blow a whistle to do it. He refuses to fire a gun, even a starter pistol. “I think the symbolism is just bad,” he said. “It’s just something I don’t do.”

Midas, you can be as snarky as you like. But i know when I ran track, we were constantly scared of the gun shots ringing out after the starter's pistol went off.
