Taxes & stadiums

Of all my votes, I've considered my vote for the stadiums here in SW Ohio to be one of my top five worst (along w/ Jesse Jackson & Jerry Springer in a primaries, Mike Dukakis and Howard Metzenbaum).

Instead of voting for a tax increase we should have done it like Wisconsin. I'm doing a return for a client up there and on the bottom of the form you can contribute part or all of your refund to

Prostate cancer
Endangered resources
Firefighters memorial
Breast Cancer research
Multiple Sclerosis and a

PACKERS STADIUM fund.

I just wonder how much they've got in the fund to date?

Agree with all that, Gordon. The best part is the presence of the Packers Stadium fund right below the multiple sclerosis fund. Gee, thinking about worthy causes-- I could help save MS or cancer patients with currently incurable diseases, honor firefighters, save endangered plants or animals or, oh, yeah, I could chip in for a new stadium. My conscience is tugging me.

BTW Gordon, I noticed your in Cincinnati, just a hello from a fellow former Ohioan (from Columbus). Just I thought, since I'm in total agreement with you on the 2008 election-- defeating the disaster-in-waiting known as Hillary Clinton, and supporting Rudy Giuliani.

One of my fiscal conservative friends suggested the following, and it's among the smartest things I've ever heard. Since the 2008 election is so crucial, he's been trying to encourage Republicans who are living in "true-blue" states that will be voting Democratic no matter what-- states like California, Hawaii, Illinois, Michigan, Massachusetts, Maryland, Vermont and New York-- to move away from those states, where their votes will be wasted, to Swing States like Ohio, where our votes can make a difference.

(FWIW I do some work in California but moved from Ohio to Wisconsin, one Swing State to another.)

Many embittered Republicans have been considering this anyway, since the True-Blue states like California are high-tax messes with ridiculously expensive housing-- so why not encourage the move early enough for Republicans to move to a Swing State and register to vote prior to 2008?

The important Swing States I guess are Wisconsin, Ohio, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Florida (not the southern part but the Panhandle in Florida is wonderful, very affordable), Delaware, Minnesota, New Jersey and Oregon as well.

I know of at least 2 dozen people from California where I've worked, all Republicans or Independent-leaning conservatives, who have been thinking of moving, and I've encouraged them to move to one of the Swing States when they make a choice-- not just because of the crucial political issues at stake, but also due to much better cost-of-living and, frankly, much stronger communities as well.

If you're ever out of state and talking to someone of a conservative mindset, and especially if they're dissatisfied with where they are, please sing the joys of Ohio to them! I loved it when I was there, and moved to
Wisconsin only due to job reasons, and I'd recommend either state in a second for many reasons.

Sarah if you read through my earlier posts, you'll see that I'm from Lancaster, OH the home of great Americans such as William Tecumseh Sherman, William Stansbery, Thomas Ewing & Rex Kern.

Unfortunately too many buckeye fans for my taste so I'm exiled to the 'nati indefinitely.
