A lesson in fairness

I just did tax returns for two different people, with roughly the same income ($90,000).

Taxpayer A's tax liability, $16,679

Taxpayer B's tax liability, zero

The difference is basically lifestyle choices (kids, mortgages, etc).

Question. Should lifestyle choice result in a discrepancy this large? Is it fair? Why should one taxpayer subsidize the lifestyle of the other?

Researchers also found a complex chemical interaction in the cooking of bacon produces the winning combination of taste and smell which is almost irresistible.

One of the things that aided my transformation from a bleeding heart liberal to a cold blooded conservative is my absolute hatred for meetings.

I'm thinking democrats. Why? I can't think of one damn thing that ever got accomplished from a meeting.

Barack Obama vowed to turn to the U.N. Security Council for strong action following North Korea's weekend missile launch. He would have done better by turning to Dr. Phil.

So, as the good doctor likes to say: Get real. Get real about North Korea. Get real about the U.N. Get real, also, about NATO, arms control, Russia, the global financial system, and every other item headlining the president's unreality tour through the capitals of Europe.

Start with North Korea. What was the purpose of the missile test? Surely not (or not mainly) to showcase the efficacy of North Korean technology, which Dear Leader Kim Jong Il must have known was likely to fail. The real test conducted Sunday was of Mr. Kim's international position. And here he scored a direct hit.

At the U.N., China's ambassador counseled a "cautious and proportionate" response, which is tantamount to no response at all. Russia wondered, in a style worthy of Andrei Gromyko, whether Pyongyang had actually violated the terms of Resolutions 1695 and 1718, which demand, inter alia, that the North "not conduct any further nuclear test or launch of a ballistic missile." (My emphasis.)

But the greatest prize for Mr. Kim was the reaction from President Obama. "Rules must be binding," the president told his audience in Prague on Sunday. "Violations must be punished. Words must mean something." But how are words supposed to mean anything if all the administration proposes to do is offer up yet another resolution -- which is to say, more words?

To nobody's surprise (except, perhaps, Mr. Obama's) the Security Council has so far failed to agree on a resolution. But that's the U.N. for you, as opposed to a serious organization like NATO, at whose 60th anniversary summit in Strasbourg . . . nothing much was accomplished, either.

The only thing to ever come out of meetings is a commitment to more meetings.

Think about it, the UN has been having kick the can meetings on Darfur for the better part of a decade. How's that working out?

Last month, I noted the connection between Stanford and Biden's sons, who run hedge funds (the anti Christ for all things socialist). In addition, Stanford has a nice tie to Chuck Schumer, Charles Rangel, et al.

As April 15 rolls around let us take a moment to recall why we Americans pay taxes: Because some of our country's good-for-nothing bums are too chicken to rob us at gunpoint. That would be members of Congress and the executive branch. How come we keep electing politicians who will tax the bejeezus out of us? Especially Democrats? At least Republicans are smart enough to lie about it.

We keep electing them because taxes are a pretty good deal. The American government will spend $3.6 trillion this year. There are 306 million of us Americans. We each get $11,765. Sure, we get it mostly in transportation pork projects, agricultural price supports, GM charitable contributions, the Marine Corps, and interest payments on Chinese T-bills when we'd rather get it in cash. But, still, $11,765 isn't bad. Let's say you're a family of five: a dad, a mom and three lovely, high-scoring kids participating in enough community service programs to pad their college applications. You're the kind of family we conservatives endorse. And you're getting $58,825. Even Republicans are on the dole. Dad (conservative women are proud to be stay-at-home moms) will have to make a pile of money to pay $59K in taxes so you can each get $11,765 from the government.

Although it is unclear just how big a pile of money Dad will have to make to ensure that he's feeding, housing, and grooming America for the future rather than sucking her teat.

For one thing there's the possibility that President Obama will make all income greater than the 2009 Madoff investor average return subject to punitive capitation. Also U.S. income taxes are so complex that even Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner can't understand them. Plus we all cheat on our taxes (except for Timothy Geithner who can't understand his). Furthermore, personal income tax, Social Security, and Medicare exactions account for only 75 percent of federal receipts. Corporate taxes provide 13 percent, 6 percent is borrowed, and 6 percent comes from that $9 pack of Marlboros you just bought because April 15 is stressing you out.

Pete Sepp of the National Taxpayers Union did some complicated mathematics and says, "By my reckoning, somewhere between 85 and 95 million households out of 115 million total have a smaller tax liability than the per-capita spending burden." The breadwinners for 18 to 26 percent of our households are shoveling coal in the engine rooms of the ship of state, while everybody else is a stowaway, necking with Kate Winslet like Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic.

This is a must read for all of the economically challenged voters in this country.

And if we continue to let banks and other financial institutions around the world act recklessly and irresponsibly, that affects institutions here at home as credit dries up, and people can’t get loans to buy a home or car, to run a small business or pay for college."

So let me make sure we have this straight. Banks and financial institutions have acted "irresponsibly".

But now we need them to make loans they shouldn't have been making in the first place to get the economy revved up.

Even better, we need foreign countries to over consume so that we can buy cars and send our kids to college.

Morons gain traction

Movements against the electoral college are gaining traction.

A movement to bypass the Electoral College and elect the president based on the popular vote is gaining steam, racking up almost one-fifth of the support needed to trigger the plan.

National Popular Vote, a California-based group formed in 2006, has won commitments from four states to award their electoral votes to the winner of the popular vote. Those four states — Maryland, New Jersey, Illinois and Hawaii — have 50 electoral votes among them.

The goal is for states with a total of 270 electoral votes to enter into a compact in which they agree to give their electoral votes to the winner of the popular vote.

If you ever needed a good reason for the electoral college, just look at the Minnesota senatorial race.

Multiply that mess by 50 and that is what you would have in a close presidential popular race.

If this isn't socialism, what is?

Apparently, some banks want to pay back their TARP funds....

Here's a true story first reported by my Fox News colleague Andrew Napolitano (with the names and some details obscured to prevent retaliation). Under the Bush team a prominent and profitable bank, under threat of a damaging public audit, was forced to accept less than $1 billion of TARP money. The government insisted on buying a new class of preferred stock which gave it a tiny, minority position. The money flowed to the bank. Arguably, back then, the Bush administration was acting for purely economic reasons. It wanted to recapitalize the banks to halt a financial panic.

Fast forward to today, and that same bank is begging to give the money back. The chairman offers to write a check, now, with interest. He's been sitting on the cash for months and has felt the dead hand of government threatening to run his business and dictate pay scales. He sees the writing on the wall and he wants out. But the Obama team says no, since unlike the smaller banks that gave their TARP money back, this bank is far more prominent. The bank has also been threatened with "adverse" consequences if its chairman persists. That's politics talking, not economics.

Think about it: If Rick Wagoner can be fired and compact cars can be mandated, why can't a bank with a vault full of TARP money be told where to lend? And since politics drives this administration, why can't special loans and terms be offered to favored constituents, favored industries, or even favored regions? Our prosperity has never been based on the political allocation of credit -- until now.

Keeping poor people poor

There may be nothing that keeps poor people poor than public schools.

For some reason, "progressives" seem intent on protecting that monopoly when they would dare protect any other monopoly.

Education Secretary Arne Duncan did a public service last week when he visited New York City and spoke up for charter schools and mayoral control of education. That was the reformer talking. The status quo Mr. Duncan was on display last month when he let Congress kill a District of Columbia voucher program even as he was sitting on evidence of its success.

In New York City with its 1.1 million students, mayoral control has resulted in better test scores and graduation rates, while expanding charter schools, which means more and better education choices for low-income families. But mayoral control expires in June unless state lawmakers renew it, and the United Federation of Teachers is working with Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver to weaken or kill it.

President Obama's stimulus is sending some $100 billion to the nation's school districts. What will he demand in return? The state budget passed by the New York legislature last week freezes funding for charters but increases it by more that $400 million for other public schools. Perhaps a visit to a charter school in Harlem would help Mr. Obama honor his reform pledge. "I'm looking at the data here in front of me," Mr. Duncan told the New York Post. "Graduation rates are up. Test scores are up. Teacher salaries are up. Social promotion was eliminated. Dramatically increasing parental choice. That's real progress."

Why newspaper are going broke

As more and more newspapers file bankruptcy, did it ever occur to any of the editors that people might actually read their papers if they were to break a big time Watergate style article, like, say the political corruption that started this whole economic downturn.

But Gordon, that takes staff and resources the papers just don't have anymore.

It doesn't take a whole lot of staff to read this report from Judicial Watch to get all the documents to put together a nice expose of government corruption......

Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that as part of its ongoing investigation of the government's role in the financial crisis it has uncovered new documents. The documents show that members of Congress for years were aware that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were playing fast and loose with accounting issues, risk assessment issues and executive compensation issues, even while liberals in Congress continued to block attempts to regulate the two Government Sponsored Enterprises (GSEs).

Judicial Watch obtained the documents from the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request dated December 4, 2008. Judicial Watch requested records related to members of Congress activity regarding the policy of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to increase lending to individuals with poor credit risk, as well as correspondence and records about contacts between FHFA and Fannie and Freddie. Among the important documents:

• FHFA letter, dated March 26, 2007, from the director of the Office of Housing Enterprise Oversight (OHFEO), James B. Lockhart, to U.S. Senators Elizabeth Dole, Chuck Hagel, Mel Martinez and John Sununu: "This is a very serious issue. Freddie Mac's inadequate systems and controls make it a significant supervisory concern. Furthermore, its lack of timely public disclosures deny market participants the essential financial information made available by all other publicly traded companies so that investors may make informed judgments." The letter also mentions, "...Fannie Mae still has not filed financial statements for 2005 and 2006 and thus, they are not timely filers either."
• FHFA letter, dated December 3, 2004, to Congressman Barney Frank: "On November 15, 2004 Fannie Mae filed a Form 12b-25 with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Fannie Mae indicated that its external auditors could not complete their reviews of its financial statements and noted the possibility of up to a $9 billion loss dating back to 2001. As a result, OHFEO has determined it will not provide a monthly capital classification at this time."
• Letter dated June 16, 2006, from OHFEO Director Lockhart to Senator Chuck Hagel: "...In January 1999, Chairman and CEO Franklin Raines approved a recommendation made by the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) (Tom Howard) and the Controller (Leanne Spencer) to defer recognition of $200 million in amortization expense. This deferral, along with other accounting decisions made at that time relating to provisions for loan losses and the recognition of low-income housing tax credits, allowed management to meet the EPS threshold for maximum bonuses."

Overall, these documents show that Congress was made aware of the massive problems at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac over the last six years. Yet liberals, led by Congressman Barney Frank, repeatedly blocked attempts to rein in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

For example, during a hearing on September 10, 2003, before the House Committee on Financial Services considering a Bush administration proposal to further regulate Fannie and Freddie, Rep. Frank stated: "I want to begin by saying that I am glad to consider the legislation, but I do not think we are facing any kind of a crisis. That is, in my view, the two government sponsored enterprises we are talking about here, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, are not in a crisis. We have recently had an accounting problem with Freddie Mac that has led to people being dismissed, as appears to be appropriate. I do not think at this point there is a problem with a threat to the Treasury."

But I guess the papers will just go down making sure everyone knows that Sarah Palin's, daughter's, boyfriend's, cousin's next door neighbor thinks Sarah Palin's a bitch.

So I really wasn't in the mood to get a visit this morning from a woman who's bitching at me because our office took too much child support out of her boyfriend's paycheck.

Keep in mind that this guy has four children with three different women that he's paying child support on.

Also keep in mind that this guy has two children with the woman he's currently shacking up with.

Also keep in mind that this woman is receiving child support from two different men.

Her question to me.

How's he's supposed to take care of his current family when he's paying child support on all these other kids?

I felt like telling her that her husband should buy himself a time machine and go back to junior high and follow my example

1) I worked my ass off putting in 5000 hours on the track and the streets of Lancaster running and in the weight room. I did that around working in my aunt's pizza shop and school work. I didn't have time or the energy to fertilize all the sweeties in my school.

2) As a result of busting my ass, I got a tuition and fees scholarship and got my degree.

3) When I graduated from college, instead of spreading my seed around the countryside, I was at home studying for the CPA exam.

4) After I passed the CPA, I started my own business. Again, I didn't have time rolling up on a bunch of skanks making trophies. I was too busy trying to figure out which credit card I could use to meet payroll.

5) So now it's April 4th of my fourteenth tax season. I've made a lot of money doing 600 plus tax returns so far this year. But a bunch of liberal douche bags are telling me that I'm greedy because I don't really feel all that motivated to support this clown's spawn.

And if you think that somehow ole Gordon was handed his success. I challenge you to drive down Washington Ave in Lancaster Ohio. Even better walk the street at night time.

That's where Gordon grew up. It's basically a couple of steps in front of Detroit.

But I'm not exceptional. I just did the following things above and I made it. Unlike the excrement who came into my office breeding like rabbits wondering where the money is going to come from to buy their cigarettes.

Once again, I challenge the liberal out there to tell me exactly how much I should pay to support this derelict's kids?

I know there are liberals who read this blog. I get way too many hits from college campuses to believe they're all closet conservatives.

Top White House economic adviser Lawrence Summers received about $5.2 million over the past year in compensation from hedge fund D.E. Shaw, and also received hundreds of thousands of dollars in speaking fees from major financial institutions.

A financial disclosure form released by the White House Friday afternoon shows that Mr. Summers made frequent appearances before Wall Street firms including J.P. Morgan, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers. He also received significant income from Harvard University and from investments, the form shows.

My bullshit meter tells me that if this were a Bush appointee, we'd hear more about it.

In a compensation program that has drawn angry protests from politicians, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac expect to pay about $210 million in retention bonuses to 7,600 employees over 18 months, according to a letter from the mortgage companies' regulator to Sen. Charles Grassley.

The maximum retention bonus for any individual executive under the plan will total $1.5 million during the 18 months ending in early 2010, according to the letter, which provides previously undisclosed details about the bonuses. The regulator, James Lockhart, director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, said in a letter to the Iowa Republican senator that ...

About 109,000 more people left Michigan than moved in last year, quadruple the loss of seven years ago. Many of those are young, college-educated workers, exactly the kind of people Michigan needs to rebuild.

"We're up against a strong headwind," said Liz Boyd, press secretary to Gov. Jennifer Granholm. "The governor has made it very clear how challenging it is when you have an economy based for a hundred years on one industry, and you have changes that have impacted (that) industry."

The state of Michigan, watching people leave in numbers not seen since the Exodus.....

Cathy Owens desperately wants to join the Michigan residents who have fled the state. But the deflating economy that makes her want to leave is the same force that keeps her here.

Flooded with job offers elsewhere but stuck with a condominium worth $50,000 less than she owes, the 37-year-old Pontiac woman is the mirror image of Michigan's almost half-million recession refugees -- an economic prisoner with no chance for parole anytime soon.

"It's one thing to not be able to find a job," said Owens, an education consultant. "It's another to have to turn down great opportunities because you can't sell your house."

As bad as Michigan's exodus has become, it could be even worse if thousands of frustrated homeowners like Owens could leave. Residents trying to escape Michigan's hard times today are finding their path to the border more difficult than those who left in recent years. Jobs in other states, plentiful through much of Michigan's recession, are drying up. And those who find jobs elsewhere often struggle to sell their Michigan homes.

I'm a non-practicing Catholic. So I couldn't care less who Notre Dame decides to invite to their commencement address. They could invite Charles Manson or Bill Ayers for all I care. it's their university, not mine. I'm one of the few people who still understand the clause in the Constituion on the right to assemble.

What I find curious is the outrage of some Catholics to his appearance.

Let's face some facts.

If all Catholics had voted against Obama, he wouldn't be president today.

If his stance on abortion is the sole reason he shouldn't speak, then I think you'd better get the Catholic flock in agreement on the issue. Because you still have Nancy Lollapelosi, John Kerry et al throwing the abortion issue right in the face of the church and yet the church has yet to excommunicate them. If this issue is so important (which, for the record, I think it is) then why isn't the church enforcing "the law"?

If Catholics don't feel his abortion stance isn't a deal breaker to be president, then it shouldn't be a deal breaker to speak at a commencement address.

Abortion is a big deal for most people of faith. Unfortunately, it's not enough of an issue to keep people of faith from voting for these bogus religious people. Until that changes, these protests look petty and won't change a damn thing until the faithful quit electing these clowns.

This time it's the city of Pittsburgh, who hasn't had a republican mayor in 70 YEARS!!!!

A mother in Pennsylvania has been charged with giving her 13-year-old daughter drugs and alcohol so the woman's boyfriend could get the girl pregnant, police said Thursday.

Shana Brown, 32, is no longer able to have children but wanted to have a baby with her current boyfriend, Duane Calloway, said Uniontown Police Det. Donald Gmitter. The pair decided to drug the girl so Calloway, 40, could have sex with her without her knowledge, he added.

"There's some sick people on this case," Gmitter said.

Brown has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and was to turn herself into police later Thursday, Gmitter said. Brown's attorney did not immediately return a call for comment.

Calloway faces several counts of attempted rape. He was arrested Wednesday and remains in Fayette County Jail.

The three incidents occurred in Brown's home in Uniontown in western Pennsylvania, according to the criminal complaint.

The girl told police the plot was apparently hatched sometime in December after she rejected her mother's proposal that she allow Calloway to impregnate her and then marry him.

Now let me ask this question. Why would a mother try to get her 13 year old daughter knocked up. If you answered welfare, you'd probably be right.

You know if these people had to spend their time looking for jobs, they'd have less time laying around coming up with great ideas like how to knock up little Suzy.

Cincinnati police are investigating an allegation that a 12-year-old boy attacked a girl last month in a classroom at John P. Parker School in Kennedy Heights, pulling up her skirt and violently mimicking rape in front of a substitute teacher who didn’t intervene.

According to the victim’s mother and police reports, the boy, a fifth-grader, was roaming the halls the afternoon of March 19 when he entered the the sixth-grade victim’s class. Other boys egged on the boy to “rape” the victim, and he grabbed her and began “hunching,” a slang term for aggressive humping.

He stopped only after his older sister pulled him off, the mother said.

Hours before, a city-paid contractor boarded up the house at 2186 Harrison Ave., having been ordered to do so after city officials learned of the activists’ plans and invitations to the media. But Mary Kuhl and others from Westwood Concern said when they arrived, they found just a small board over a window in the door and two doors padlocked.

So the police have time to go out and bust the heads of law abiding citizens trying to clean up their neighborhood but don't have the time to clean up the dirt bags and derelicts who dwell in this place.

That's what I call efficient government.

Do you believe that it is moral and just for one person to be forcibly used to serve the purposes of another? And, if that person does not peaceably submit to being so used, do you believe that there should be the initiation of some kind of force against him? Neither question is complex and can be answered by either a yes or no. For me the answer is no to both questions but I bet that your average college professor, politician or minister would not give a simple yes or no response. They would be evasive and probably say that it all depends.

In thinking about questions of morality, my initial premise is that I am my private property and you are your private property. That's simple. What's complex is what percentage of me belongs to someone else. If we accept the idea of self-ownership, then certain acts are readily revealed as moral or immoral. Acts such as rape and murder are immoral because they violate one's private property rights. Theft of the physical things that we own, such as cars, jewelry and money, also violates our ownership rights.

The reason why your college professor, politician or minister cannot give a simple yes or no answer to the question of whether one person should be used to serve the purposes of another is because they are sly enough to know that either answer would be troublesome for their agenda. A yes answer would put them firmly in the position of supporting some of mankind's most horrible injustices such as slavery. After all, what is slavery but the forcible use of one person to serve the purposes of another? A no answer would put them on the spot as well because that would mean they would have to come out against taking the earnings of one American to give to another in the forms of farm and business handouts, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps and thousands of similar programs that account for more than two-thirds of the federal budget. There is neither moral justification nor constitutional authority for what amounts to legalized theft. This is not an argument against paying taxes. We all have a moral obligation to pay our share of the constitutionally mandated and enumerated functions of the federal government.

Unfortunately, there is no way out of our immoral quagmire. The reason is that now that the U.S. Congress has established the principle that one American has a right to live at the expense of another American, it no longer pays to be moral. People who choose to be moral and refuse congressional handouts will find themselves losers. They'll be paying higher and higher taxes to support increasing numbers of those paying lower and lower taxes. As it stands now, close to 50 percent of income earners have no federal income tax liability and as such, what do they care about rising income taxes? In other words, once legalized theft begins, it becomes too costly to remain moral and self-sufficient. You might as well join in the looting, including the current looting in the name of stimulating the economy.

In the past six years, eight people from Austin and one from Luling racked up 2,678 emergency room visits in Central Texas, costing hospitals, taxpayers and others $3 million, according to a report from a nonprofit made up of hospitals and other providers that care for the uninsured and low-income Central Texans.

One of the nine spent more than a third of last year in the ER: 145 days. That same patient totaled 554 ER visits from 2003 through 2008.

"We looked at frequent users of emergency departments ... and that's the extreme," said Ann Kitchen, executive director of the Integrated Care Collaboration, the group that presented the report last week to the Travis County Healthcare District board. "What we're really trying to do is find out who's using our emergency rooms ... and find solutions."

I know of an individual on medicaid who calls the emergency squad for a ride to an emergency room. Once there he walks to the bar across the street.

No tax increases for anyone making $250,000 a year, right?

"No one making less than $250,000 under Barack Obama's plan will see one single penny of their tax raised," Joe Biden said, "whether it's their capital gains tax, their income tax, investment tax, any tax."

The Democratic campaign used such statements to counter Republican assertions that Obama would raise taxes in a multitude of direct and indirect ways, recalled Kathleen Hall Jamieson, director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania.

"I think a reasonable person would have concluded that Senator Obama had made a 'no new taxes' pledge to every couple or family making less than $250,000," she said.

Jamieson noted GOP ads that claimed Obama would raise taxes on electricity and home heating oil. "They rebutted both with the $250,000 claim," she said of the Obama campaign, "so they did extend the rebuttal beyond income and payroll."

Government and private research has found that smoking rates are higher among people of low income.

A Gallup survey of 75,000 people last year fleshed out that conclusion. It found that 34 percent of respondents earning $6,000 to $12,000 were smokers, and the smoking rate consistently declined among people of higher income. Only 13 percent of people earning $90,000 or more were smokers.

One of the reasons the rest of the world loves Obama is that they're almost assured of getting more jobs relocating to their countries if Team Obama gets their way......

The chairman of the world's largest consumer products maker says a provision in President Barack Obama's budget proposal regarding income made overseas would cost American jobs and give foreign businesses an unfair advantage.

A.G. Lafley, chief executive officer of the Procter & Gamble Co., said a proposal to limit or end deferred payment of taxes on foreign income would lead to job cuts and higher prices for American consumers and would cost companies billions.

U.S. companies now are allowed to defer payment of taxes on foreign income until those funds are brought back into the country. Requiring immediate payment of taxes would give an edge to foreign competitors, such as L'Oreal, Unilever, Nestle and Kao, Lafley said.

In a guest column in Sunday's editions of The Cincinnati Enquirer, Lafley decried "the unintended consequences of a proposal that may sound good on the surface but could undermine American companies, workers and consumers."

"At P&G, we support efforts by the Obama administration and Congress to promote job growth, improve infrastructure and invest in innovation," Lafley wrote. "And we take our responsibility as an American corporate citizen seriously. We dutifully pay among the highest corporate tax rates in the world as a U.S.-based company.

"We also understand the need to produce new revenue to help pay for economic stimulus plans designed to produce or preserve jobs. But if the budget proposal to eliminate tax 'deferral' is adopted, it would have the opposite effect."

In a move sure to spark outrage, the White House announced today that GM and Chrysler must cease participation in NASCAR at the end of the 2009 season if they hope to receive any additional financial aid from the government. Companies around the globe—Honda and Audi, to name two—have drawn down racing operations, and NASCAR itself has already felt the pinch in the form of reduced team spending. A complete withdrawal from America’s premier racing series is expected to save more than $250 million between GM and Chrysler, a substantial amount considering the drastic measures being implemented elsewhere.

“Automakers used to operate on the principle of ‘win on Sunday, sell on Monday,’ but the Auto Task Force’s research just doesn’t validate that as true,” said the statement from President Obama. While fans have decried the Car of Tomorrow for heavily limiting what little personalization the cookie-cutter series had previously allowed to participating manufacturers, and drivers have slammed its brick-like aerodynamics and unpredictable handling, even the governmental oversight committee sees that the full-scale regulation of the cars leaves the manufacturers very little space for research and development. “NASCAR is a racing series that regulates down to the smallest detail of the cars, where a car badged a Chevrolet or Dodge differs only marginally from a Ford or a Toyota. There’s no technological development to speak of.”

The statement goes on further to say the same demand will be made of Ford if it asks for government assistance. “In order to receive this money, corporations must demonstrate they will spend it wisely. Racing has been said to improve on-road technology, but frankly, NASCAR almost flaunts its standing among the lowest-tech forms of motorsport. NASCAR is not proven to drive advancements that transfer from the racetrack to the road, and this nation’s way forward does not hinge on decades-old technology. We need new, and we need innovation.”

The President realizes this will be an unpopular call, but stands behind the decision, saying, “This is an obvious cut to make, but it is not an easy one. This administration is not ignoring the tremendous sentimental value and emotional appeal NASCAR holds for so many Americans. But now is not the time for sentiment and nostalgia; now is a time for decisive financial action. If our automotive industry is to emerge from this recession intact, then these difficult decisions must be made.”

Wait until Jr. has to make all those left turns in a Hyundai. There could be riots in the south.
